Issue #7

Good news!! Credit cards are now being accepted on School Cash Online! In addition to the myWallet and eCheck options, you can now use a credit card to make purchases!

As we begin to approach the end of another school year, it is won-

derful to reflect on all of the great things that have taken place and

the many ways our students have grown. Not only have they grown in

their learning, but they have also grown in their behaviour, maturity

and leadership. We are very proud of their accomplishments and

their awesome attitude. We are also proud of and thankful for an

amazing staff, a caring and supportive parent community, as well as a

group of fabulous volunteers who help to make our school the best it

can be. We thank you for all of your hard work and commitment to

Fallingbrook P.S.

From April 26th to 28th, Principals and Vice-Principals attended the

Durham Elementary School Administrator’s Conference. The Con-

ference is completely paid for by the Principals and Vice-Principals

employed by the DDSB and does not impact on school funds. During

this period, our teachers K. Hosier, A. Currie and N. Vickers were

left in charge of the school. V. Pigeon (the local secondary school

Principal) and Superintendents Fisher and Kennelly were available in

case additional assistance was required. The focus for this year’s

conference was “Innovat-Ed”. We attended a series of workshops

and keynote presentations delivered by George Couros (author of

the book The Innovator’s Mindset; Empower Learning, Unleash Tal-

ent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity) and Dick O’Brien (professional

speaker and consultant in human relations), It was a great time of

learning and networking with our administrator colleagues

SCHOOL CASH ONLINE We are encouraging all parents to sign up with School Cash Online as per the Durham Board directive. We are slowly eliminating the handling of money in all schools in the DDSB.

Your child’s OEN # was sent home last year as you will need this to register for School Cash Online.

School Cash Online offers the convenience of making online payments for your child's field trips, pizza days, milk program, agendas, yearbook, spirit wear, school fundraising, etc. Using this method of payment helps eliminate the need for students to carry cash to school, thereby reducing bullying, theft and cash misplacement. Please note: credit cards are now being accepted on School Cash Online!

Please go to our Fallingbrook website: http://www.ddsb.ca/school/fallingbrook and scroll down to the bottom right-hand side of the main page. You will see “School Cash Online”, click on the button and it will redirect you to where you can register.

Safe Arrival - Absences The Durham District School Board has implemented a new method of reporting

student absences along with the ability to lookup your child’s homeroom, grade

and teacher information online.

The SchoolConnects 'Safe Arrival' program enables you to conveniently notify their school when an absence will occur, or before bell time of the school day. Parents may make use of phone, internet or mobile app to notify their school of upcoming absences.

To report your child’s absence you can call:

1-844-350-2646

through the student verification form or the registration form data col-

lection may self-create an account by clicking on the 'SchoolConnects'

website:

Information Regarding Your Child’s Homeroom Placement Next Year

Durham District School Board will no longer display class lists in the schools. Privacy concerns no longer allow schools to provide these lists to community members.

Parents may find their child’s teacher’s name and homeroom in any of the following ways:

Creating a Safe Arrival account for yourself will enable you to access the name of your child’s teacher and homeroom number. Those who register will be able to view this information online beginning on the Thursday before school starts.

Those parents who are unable or do not wish to create an account through the online Safe Arrival program may still come into the school on the Thursday prior to the first day of school and locate their child’s teacher using a posted list of Ontario Education Numbers (OEN). No lists will be posted with student names. If you wish to come in to look up your child’s homeroom teacher, please bring your child’s report card or student OEN with you. No class placement

information will be given over the phone.

Parents who have misplaced their child’s report card or who do not have a student OEN number may visit the office. Staff will notify you of your child’s teacher.

We realize that this is a change of practice for all of our families. We urge all those parents who can register online to do so in order to avoid lengthy wait times at the school.

ALL PARENTS/GUARDIANS MAY BEGIN BOOKING ABSENCES EITHER THROUGH THE TOLL FREE NUMBER OR THE ONLINE APPLICATION AS SOON AS YOU REGISTER

ONLINE.

We hope families will appreciate the new online conveniences and understand the change in practice to address privacy concerns.

Fallingbrook hosted its annual fun fair on Thursday, May 18. Despite the weather, we saw so many of our school families having fun and celebrating another successful year. It was wonderful to see everyone out enjoying the bbq, the music, the games and the silent auction!

Thank you to Counsellor Steve Yamada for coordinating the donation of the $500 Great Wolf Lodge gift card. And a big congratulations to the Feeney family who won the gift card! Enjoy your mini-getaway!

A very special thank you to our parent volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication in preparing for this event: Mrs. Stanzel, Mrs. Rhodes, Mrs. Pickering, Ms. Bowie, Mrs. Carito, Mrs. Weckers, Mrs. Doodeman, Mrs. Parent, Mrs. Jamieson, Mrs. Whitaker, Mrs. Nayler., Mr. Lamba and Mr. Kawasaki. We could not do what we do without the help of enthusiastic volunteers!

Grade 8 Grad Trip

On May 16th, the grade 8 students departed on a coach bus to Toronto at 9:00 a.m. for

our Graduation Trip! First of all, we enjoyed visiting the CN Tower. It was a

magnificent view to behold of Toronto and the surrounding area! After having lunch,

we headed to the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada. We had a great time viewing the

amazing aquatic animals and some students even got to touch sting rays! Then we

went on to cheer for the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. Although they were

sadly defeated by the Atlanta Braves, it was a fantastic experience. For dinner, we

went to The Old Spaghetti Factory. After a delicious meal of pasta, bread and salad, we

were on our way back to the school, arriving at approximately 10:30 p.m. On behalf of

all the students, we would like to thank Mrs. Edmonds, Ms. Gordon, Mr. Bailey and

our Perspectives tour guide for organizing this fantastic trip filled with laughter,

excitement and fun!
