AMAP
AMAP are a Research and Reach Out Unit Our role is to support the University’s strategy of supporting Advanced Manufacturing We define an Advanced Manufacturer as one that innovates in:
Design Product Development and Process Improvement
-
Advanced Manufacturing
• AMAP define Advanced Manufacturers as those that innovate is:
– Design
– Product development
– Process Improvement
• To support these manufacturers we offer a range of services
-
• Industrial applications • Digital engineering technologies • Partnership training • Valuable services to manufacturers
International Research • Manufacturing • Maintenance engineering • Ultra low carbon vehicle technology
Practical expertise & problem solving solutions

AMAP’s Facilities
Our Factory facilities include state of the art Rapid Prototyping, 3D Scanning, Inspection, Reverse Engineering and CNC Manufacturing processes, together with a wide range of digital engineering software technologies.
CNC Machining Centre and Lathe 3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering
3D Printing & Rapid Prototyping
-
CNC Machining Services
• Full 5 Axis CNC machining • CNC Lathe • Powered by Delcam manufacturing software • Specialist ‘one-off’ component manufacturers • Full inspection and reporting service
Suggested Markets: • New Product Introduction • Prototypes • Very small runs • Research and Development
-
New line setup for Tier 1 Automotive Supplier
• Major investment in new production line. • Aided the client with 3D inspection and verification against native design on the customers site. • Client feedback currently suggesting that quality on this line is now not only exceeding internal operations but also America, China and Japan. • This is due to the verification of line setup.

– Simulation + CAD/CAM
– Fuel Cells and Battery arrays
-
Driving Simulator
• An EV Development Dynamometer linked
to our driving simulator .
• Including humans in the Design
Verification process
-
EV Research
• Increasing stability to reduce battery pack
size and improve life
• Reducing the energy drain on traction
batteries and extending geographic
operation of BEV’s
• Increasing flexibility/drivability
• Investigating fleet operational issues
• Intelligent Mobility
-
Extending the geographic range
Cold weather battery performance
Interest from Auto OEMs Batteries lose up to 50% of their capacity at temps below -20 degs C Will present initial findings in San Diego this year
