INPUT UNIT

These are used to enter data and instructions into computers.

Ex. Keyboard , mouse, light pen, microphone, graphic tables, scanner, smart card reader, barcode reader , biometric sensors.

CPU – CONTROL PROCESS UNIT

CPU is responsible for the processing of data and instructions.

CPU can be divided into two sections.

1. ALU : Arithmetic logical unit which is responsible for performance of addition , subtraction , division, multiplication and some related operation. (< , >, =,)

2. CU :Control unit: This is a unit coordinate various operations of the computer.

MEMORY

It temporally store data/ inspection during processing. It is divided into two – primary and secondary memory.

PRIMARY MEMORY: Primary memory is divided into two.

1:RAM 2: ROM

RAM AND ROM

RAM: RAM is used for primary storage in computers to hold active information and instruction. When the power goes off , the data will get erased.

Hence it is known as volatile memory.

ROM: ROM is used to store instructions provided by manufacturer, which holds the instruction to check basic hardware interconnector and to load operating system from appropriate storage device.

OUTPUT UNIT

These are used to display results on video display or are used to print. These can also be used to store the result for further users.

Monitor or VDU , speakers , dot matrix.

PRINTERS

Types of printers : There are two types of printers.

1. IMPACT PRINTER: In these types of printers there is a physical contact between the printer head and paper.

Ex: dot matrix printer.

2. NON IMPACT PRINTERS : There is no physical contact between the printer ead and the paper.

Ex: eraser printer, thermal printer.

COMMUNICATION AND ADDRESS BUS

Communication bus: In computer architecture a bus is a system that transfers data between computer components or between computers.

Address bus: there is a system of bus which is used to specify the address of computer location. The width of a bus determines the number of memory location that can be addressed.

DATA BUS AND CONTROL BUS

DATA BUS : The system is a medium which transfer the data from one place to other in a computer system.

CONTROL BUS: This system of bus carries the signal that gives the report about the status of a device.

For ex: one wire of bus indicates whether the CPU currently reading or writing from the main memory.
