‘AMAL – UMMI DAWUD Taught by Imam Ja’fer As-Sadiq (pbuh) to Fatima (Ummi Dawud) whose son was held captive by Mansur Dawanaqi. As soon as she finished the ‘Amal, Dawud was at the door. Imam had told her that if performed sincerely, no desire would be left unfulfilled. 1. Fast on 13, 14 & 15 Rajab (Ayyamul Baydh) 2. On the 15th do ghusl just before the time of Dhuhr. 3. Pray nafila of Dhuhr (8 raka’ts) and Dhuhr Salaa. 4. Pray 2 raka’ts salaa of hajaat and recite 100x after salaam –

5. Pray nafila of ‘Asr with Suratul Ikhlas x3 & Suratul Kawthar in each of the 8 raka’ts followed by Salatul ‘Asr.

6. DUA UMMI DAWUD

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the merciful. يمى حى حنى الر ى الر بىسمى اللهO Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad.

د د و الى مم ى عل مم ههم صل اللAllah is true that He is the Greatest يم صدق اهلل العظىsuch as there is no God but He, the Ever-living, the Eternal, القي وم ي الاىله اىال هو الي ال ذىThe Lord of majesty and generosity, ذوالاللى واالىكرامى the Beneficent, the Merciful, the Benevolent, the Compassionate; يم يم اللىيم الكرى حى حن الر الر There is nothing and no-one like Him, ء ا ثلىه ش ي ليس كمى ل ذى He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, the All-Seeing, the Aware.

يع العلىيم مى ي البىي و هو الس البصى

Allah bears witness that there is no god but He; and (so do) the angels and those who have knowledge, maintaining His creation with justice;

شهىد اهلل ان ه ال اىله اىال هو والآلئىكة واولو العىلمى قآئىما بىالقىسطى

There is no God but He, the Mighty, the Wise. Surely the true religion with Allah is Islam).

His very noble Messengers had declared and made known, and I am of those who bear witness to these facts.

O Allah! ههم اللTo You belongs all praise, glory, لك المد ولك الجد Honour, pride, ولك الفخرولك العىز supreme power, bounties, ولك القهر ولك الن ىعمة greatness, mercy, حةولك العظمة ولك الر reverence, sovereignty, لطانالهابة ولك ولك الس beauty, benevolence, ولك االىمتىنان ولك البهآء glorification, holiness, يح يسولك الت سبى ولك الت قدى “LAA ILAAHA ILLALLAAH” “Allaahu Akbar”, ولك الت هلىيل ولك الت كبىي that which is seen, that which is not seen, ولك مايرى ولك مااليرى that which is far above the high heavens, مواتى العلي ولك ما فوق الس that which is deep down under the abyss, ولك ما تت الث رى the worlds below the heavens, فل ولك االر ضون الس the end and the beginning, رة و االولولك اال خى that which You find loveable, beautiful and agreeable out of the felicitation, praise, thanks-giving and response to Your call.

O Allah send blessings on Muhammad, Your ‘abd, Messenger, confidant and beloved and on the children of Muhammad.

O Allah send blessings on Jibrail, reliable carrier of Your revelations, prompt and energetic in conveying Your commands,

يل امىينىك بئى ى عل جى ههم صل اللك ي ى عل امرى عل وحيىك والقوى

come and go through heavens carrying out Your orders, operator of Your miracles, porter of Your words

سواتىك ومال ى كراماتىك والطاعى فىىكلىماتىك لى ل التحم ى

helper of Your Prophets, destroyer of Your enemies. عدآئىك يآئىك الدم ىرى الى نبى رى الى الن اصىO Allah send blessings on Mikail, effective courier of Your mercy, created with Your compassion

يك ى عل مى ههم صل يلى ملكى رحتىك آالل ئىىرافتىك والخلوقى ل

and kindness to ask pardon for and be helpful to those who obey You.

هلى طاعتىكوالس تغفىرى العىيى الى

O Allah send blessings on Israfeel, bearer of Your Arsh, announcer of the awaited call

ك ى عل اىسرافىيل حامىلى عرشى ههم صل اللرى ورى النتظى بى الص وصاحى

when You will give the order; cautious, on his guard, in awe of Your reverential fear.

لى الشفى ك الوجى مرى يفتىكالى قى مىن خى

O Allah send blessings on Izraeel who takes away the souls from all the living beings

ى عل ههم صل يل قابىضى ارواحى الل زرآئى عى جىيعى خلقىك


O Allah send blessings on the chaste bearers of the Arsh; ينا رى اهى ى عل حلةى العرشى الط هلهم صل ل on the Angels, the reporting emissaries who run to and fro tirelessly with the supplications of the faithful,

كرى اهلى وعل مآلئىكتىك الذ ىي عل دعآءى الؤمىنىيم ىآت

journeying to do anything in honour of the innocence of the upright,

ي ىبىيوعل رامى البرةى الط فرةى الكى الس on the “Kiraamil Kaatibeen” (The two recorders of the deeds); رامى الكاتىبىي وعل مآلئىكتىك الكىon the Angels of the Gardens, storehouses of the bright lights, ىنانى وخزنةى الن ىيانى وعل مآلئىكةى الthe angels of death and the helpers. ومل كى الوتى واالعوانى O the Owner of majesty and honour.

ياذا الاللى واالىكرامىO Allah send blessings on our father, Adam, ى عل ابىينا ادم هلهم صل الYour flesh and blood original creation, يعى فىطرتىك بدىwhom You distinguished by making Your Angels prostrate themselves in adoration before him and admitted him into Your paradise.

O Allah send blessings on our mother, Hawwaa, ى ههم صل آء الل عل ام ىنا حو

kept safe from impurity and foulness endowed with love for mankind;

جسى الصف اتى مىن ى الطه رةى مىن الر لةى مىن االىنسى نسى الفض الد


a dweller in the sacred quarters. لتد ىدةى بي ا مال ى القدسى O Allah send blessings on Habeel, Sheeth, يث ى عل هابىيل وشى ههم صل اللIdrees, Nuh, Hud, Saleh, يس ونوح وهود وصالى واىدرىIbrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, يم واىسعىيل واىسحق واىبراهىYaqub, Yusuf, Isbat, Lut, ويعقوب ويوسف واالسباطى ولوط Shoayb, Ayoub, Musa, Harun, وشعيب واي وب وموس وهرون Yusha, Meesaa, Khizr, يشا والىضرى ويوشع ومىZil Qarnayn, Yunus, Ilyas, وذىى القرنيى ويونس واىلياس Yas’a, Zil Kifl, Talut, واليسع وذىى الكىفلى وطالوت Dawud, Sulayman, Zakariya, Yahya, ي ا ويي وداود وسليمان وزكرى

Turakh, Matta, Irmiya, Hayquq, يا و حيقوقوتورخ ومته واىرمى Daniyal, Uzayr, Isa, Shamoon, عون ودانىيال وعزير وعىيس وشJirgis (and the obedient true disciples of Isa), Hanzalah and Luqman.

ىد ي ىي واالتباعى وخال يس والوارى رجى وجى وحنظلة ولقمان

O Allah send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad;

envelop Muhammad and the children of Muhammad with Your mercy;

الى دا و د وارحم مم مم

let Muhammad and the children of Muhammad be praised and hallowed;

د الى مم د و ك عل مم وبارى

as You blessed, mercified and made happy Ibrahim and the children of Ibrahim

ت وباركت كما صل يت ورحى

يم يم والى اىبراهى عل اىبراهىVerily You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. يد مىيد اىن ك حىO Allah send blessings on the Aimma [the descendents of Your Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)] the successors, the fortunate martyrs, who guided the mankind to Your path.

يآءى ى عل االوصى ههم صل اللهدآءىو عدآءى و الش الس

ةى الدى وائىم O Allah send blessings on the moderate, on the rammed-in, ى عل ههم صل االبدالى والوتادىاللon the travelling, on the enslaved, on the freed, ي ي احى والعب ادى والخلىصى والس on the ascetic and on the earnestly seeking perfection in the knowledge;

ىد ى و االىجتىهادى هادى واهلى ال والز

and singularise Muhammad and his children اهل بيتىه دا و واخصص مم with Your best blessings, be liberal and give much in addition; لى كراماتىك بىافضلى صلواتىك واجزىlet my invocation of blessings reach his body and soul, وبل ىغ روحه و جسده مىن ى


distinct and wholesome, and bestow benefits on him, in abundance, the best,

ي ة وسالما تى ده فضال وزى

super passing in grace and nobility, وشرفا وكرما till he occupies entirely the highest position حته تبل ىغه اعل درجاتىamong the distinguished Prophets, رفى مىن الن بىي ىي اهلى الش Messengers and preferred favourites. بىي لى الق ر والرسلىي واالفاضىO Allah send blessings on those, I have referred to يت ى عل من س ههم صل اللand on those, I have not quoted, from among Your Angels مآلئىكتىكم اسم ى مىن ومن ل Prophets, Messengers and Your devoted servants, يآئىك ورسلىك واهلى طاعتىك و انبىand let my invocation “to send blessings” reach them, هىم اىليهىم واىل ارواحى ل صلواتى واوصىmake them “the like of me” in this matter, فىيك واجعلهم اىخوانىand be my co-prayers. عل دعآئىك واعوانىO Allah I turn to You in Your name to ask for Your intercession ههم اىن ى استشفىع بىك اىليك اللin the name of Your Generosity for Your kindness, وبىكرمىك اىل كرمىك in the name of Your liberality for Your benefits, ودىك اىل جودىك وبىin the name of Your compassion for Your mercy وبىرحتىك اىل رحتىك and in the name of Your devoted servants who turn to You. طاعتىك اىليك واسئلك وبىاهلى


I beseech You O Allah for the whole of that which any one of them asked for in the matter of (their) close at hand dominating difficulties, never turned down, whereby (their) desires in the matter of (their) affairs received fulfilment, never left deluded in their hope.

O Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, يم يا اهلل يا رحن يارحىThe Forebearer, the Generous, the Maginificient, يم يم ياعظى ياحلىيم ياكرىthe Majestic, the Bestower, the Beautiful, نىيل ياجىيل ياجلىيل يامthe Warrantor, the Advocate, the Beloved, يل يل يامقىيلياكفى ياوكى the Lenient Supporter, the Knowing, the Luminary, يامنىييامىي ياخبىي the Invulnerable, the Unseeable, the Lawgiver, يل يامىيل يع يامدى نى يامthe Great, the Omnipotent, the Seer, the Rewarder of thankfulness,

ي ياشكور ير يابصى ياكبىي ياقدىthe Source of all goodness, the Purifier, the pure, the Wielder of absolute power,

ر ر ياقاهى ياطهرياطاهى يابر the Manifest, the Hidden, the Covering Shelter, ر يابا ن ياساتىرياظاهى طى the Encompassing Guardian, the Powerful, the Preserver, يظ ر ياحفى يامىيط يامقتدىthe Helper of the needy, the Neighbour, the Loving Friend, يب ياودود ياقرى يامتجب ى


the Praised, the Glorified, the Originator, the Restorer, يد يد يامى ئ يامعىيديامبدىياحى the Witness, the Good who treats well, the Beauty who acts in a handsome manner, the Ecstasy who gives joy and happiness,

ن يد يامسى ياشهىل يامنعىم ياممى

the Superabundance who gives extra plus, the Constrictor, the Expander, the Guide,

ل ياقابىض ط ياهادىي يامفضى ياباسى the Sender of Messengers, the Leader who leads on the Right Path, the Redeemer who grants compensation,

د د يامسد ى ل يامرشى يامرسى

the Very Liberal who gives out freely, the Protector, the Defender, the Exalter,

يامانىع يامعطى يادافىع يارافىع

the Everlasting Survivor, the Fulfiller of promise, the Creator, the Provider

ياوافى ياباقى يارز اققياخال the Bestower, the Answerer to the repentants, the Opener, اب يافت اح اب ياتو ياوه the Bountiful who prompts gifts, the Comforter يانف اح يامرتاح O He who holds all the keys, promotes interest, مىفتاح هى كل يانف اعيامن بىيدى grants amnesty, does favours, gives satisfaction, restores to health, pardons, requits, carries out completely,

يارؤف ياعطوف ياكافى ياوفى يامكافى يامعافى ياشافى

The Guardian, the Incomparable, the Compeller, يز ياجب ار ي ي ياعزى امهيمى The Proud, the Flawless, the Giver of Faith; ياسالم يامؤمىن يامتكب ى


The One, the Eternal, Light, Director, يااحد ياصمد يانور يامدب ىر Unique, Separate, Holy, Helper, ريافرد وس ياناصى تر ياقد ياوى Companion, the Resurrector, the Inheritor, ث ث ياوارى يامونىس ياباعىKnower, Ruler, First cause, Sublime, م يابادىى يامتعالى ىم ياحاكى ياعالArtist, Whole, Loving Friend, ر يامسل ىم ي امتحب ىبيامصو ى Everlasting, Eternal, the Knowing, ياقآئىم يادآئىم ياعلىيم The Wise, Kind, Maker of perfect harmony, the Source of All goodness,

Joy, Just, Decisive, Judge, ياعدل ل يادي انياسآر يافاصى Compassionate, Benefactor, All Hearing, Originator, يع يع يابدى ياحن ان يامن ان ياسىEscort, Supporter, Resurrector, Forgiver, ر ياغافىر ياخفىي يامعىي ياناشىInfinite, Accommodating, Granter of Success, ر ى يم يامسه ىل ياميس ياقدىDeadly, Life-Giver, Beneficial, Sustainer, ق يانافىع يارازى يامىيت ياميىPowerful, Primary Cause, Liquidator, ر يامسب ىب يامغىيث يامقتدىEnricher, Possessor, Creator Power, Observer, د ىق ياراصى ياخال يامقنى يامغنىIncomparable, Present, Powerful, ر ياجابىر د ياحاضى ياواحىGuardian, Severe, Aide, ياث يد ياغى ياحافىظ ياشدى


Legislator, Seizer, ياعآئىد ياقابىض O He who is Supreme at the utmost height of crowning point! ل االع يامن عل فاستعل فكان بىلمنظرىO He who is near, nearest; far, furthest; and is aware of the innermost and the hidden!

ر ى يامن قرب فدنا وبعد فناى وعلىم الس واخف

O He who plans prudently and executes well, knows the measure, extent and influence, also the possibilities!

يامن اىليهى الت دبىي وله القادىير

O He who is able to do easily that which is difficult! ي عليهى سهل ي يويا منى العسى سى O He who is able to do that which He wills! ير يامن هو عل مايشآء قدىO He who makes the wind blow! ياحى ى ل الر يامرسىO He who causes the dawn to break forth! ىق االصباحى يافالO He who awakens the souls! ث االروا حىياباعى O the Lord of generosity and clemency! ماحى ياذا لودى والس O He who restores to its former state that which had decayed! يارآد ماقد فات O He who brings the dead to life again! ر االمواتى ياناشىO He who assembles the scattered together! تاتى ياجامىع الش


O He who give sustenance, without measure, to whomsoever He wills!

ساب حى ق من يشآء بىغيى يارازىO He who does that which He wills in whatever manner He desires!

ايشآء كيف يشآءويافاعىل م

O the Lord of Majesty and kindness!

وياذىاالاللى واالىكرامىO Ever living! O Everlasting! O Ever living who was there when nothing was in existence!

ي الح ياح ياقي وم ياح حىO Ever living! O He who brings back the dead to life! الوت ياح ياميىO Ever living there is no god except You, the creator of the heavens and earth!

يع ياح الاىله اىال انت بدى مواتى واالرضى الس

O God and Master send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad

ى عل ى صل يااىلىى وسي ىدىد الى مم د و مم

as You blessed, sanctified and comforted Ibrahim and the children of Ibrahim!

ت كما صل يت وباركت ورحىيمعل يم والى اىبراهى اىبراهى

Verily You are praiseworthy, Almighty! يد مىيد اىن ك حىHave mercy on my humiliation, helplessness, insufficiency, timidity, aloneness and submissiveness before You

ى وفقرى وفاقتى وانفىرادىى وارحم ذل ى بي يديك وخضوعى ووحدتى

I rely upon You, I approach You furtively, اىليك عى واعتىمادىى عليك وتضر


I call upon You the prayer of a submissive, humble, لىيلى عى الذ ادعوك دعآء الاضىlow, frightened, worried, miserable, ا عى الآئىفى الشفىقى البآئىسى لاشى

weak, modest, earthly, needy, لهىيى القىيى الآئىعى الفقىيىا refugee seeking asylum, confessing sins, ى بىذنبىهىا يى القىر لعآئىذى الستجى asking for forgiveness and tranquillity from his Lord; ىرب ىهىا يى ل لستغفىرى مىنه الستكى

The cry of a supplicant who expected help but was betrayed and abandoned by his friends and therefore his agony is terrible, now sour, sad, sick, small, poor and disgusted turns to You pleading for sanctuary.

ب ته دعآء من اسلمته ثىقته ورفضته احىين ق حزى يعته دعآء حرى وعظمت فجى

بىك يى بآئىس مستكى ضعىيف مهىيىي مستجى

O Allah I beseech You because You are the Absolute Sovereign and verily that which You desire takes effect and verily that which You will You are able to do.

ههم اسئلك بىان ك ملىيك اللوان ك ماتشآء مىن امر يكون

يىر وان ك عل ماتشآء قدى


I beseech You in the name of this sacred month, the sacred House (Holy Ka’ba), the sacred City (Makka), the Rukn (the corner of the Holy Ka’ba) where the black stone (Hajr Aswad) is lying), the Maqaam [the spot where Prophet Ibrahim used to stand for prayers], the majestic places where the multitude of Hajis (pilgrims) performs the holy rites in Ka’ba and in the name of Your Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him.

هرى الرامى رمةى هذا الش واسئلك بىكنى والبيتى الرامى والبلدى الرامى و الر

ي ىك ى نبى ق رى العىظامى وبى والقامى والشاعىالم د عليهى الس مم

O He who prepared and presented Sheeth to Adam, Ismail and Ishaaq to Ibrahim!

يثا دم شى يامن وهب الىيم اىسعىيىل واىسحق ىبراهى والى

O He who brought back Yusuf to Yaqub! ويامن رد يوسف عل يعقوب O He who dispersed the sorrows, distressing Ayyub, after the test and trial!

ويا من كشف بعد البآلءى ضر اي وب

O He who returned Musa to his mother, and made Khizr grow in his wisdom!

ه عىلمى يارآد موس عل ام ىهى وزآئىدى الىضرى فىO He who prepared and presented Sulayman to Dawud, Yahya to Zakariyya and Isa to Maryam!

ي ا يي ىزكرى ىداود سليمان ول ويا من وهب لريم عىيس ولى

O He who guarded the daughter of Shuayb! ياحافىظ بىنتى شعيب


O He who took charge of the safety of the child of the mother of Musa!

ى موس وياكافىل ولدى ام

I Beseech You to send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad, and to absolve me from all my transgressions, set me free from the application of Your punishment,

د و ان الى مم د و عل مم اسئلك ان تصل ى مىن عذابىك كل ها وتىينى ذنوبى تغفىر لى

oblige me with Your approval, protection, favours, pardon and sanctuary.

ضوانك وامانك واىحسا رى ب لى نك وتوجىنانك وغفرانك وجى

I beseech You to untie me from all the links that connect me with those who wrong me,

كل حلقة بينى ى واسئلك ان تفك عن وبي من ي ؤذىينى

throw open for me every possible avenue of progress, make light the burdens that trouble me, make easy the difficulties that press hard upon me,

كل صعب لى كل باب وتلي ى وتفتح لىي كل عسى وتسه ىل لى

render dumb every tongue that speaks evil of me, chase away from me every quarrelsome renegade,

ق ب ى كل ناطى ى س عن وترى شر كل باغ ى وتكف عن

destroy every envious enemy who wants to put me to shame, د وحاسى عدو لى ى وتكبىت عن prevent every tyrant who plans to oppress me, and spare me from (all) repulsive influence that corrupt my desires,

كل عآئىق ىم وتكفىينى كل ظال ى وتنع مىن وبي حاجتى يول بينى


or get in the way to undo my obedience to You, وبي ق بينى ى ل ان يفر طاعتىك وياوى lead astray my thoughts away from Your worship. بادتىك عن عى ويثب ىطنىO He who censored the insubordinate jinn, condemned the insolent devils, bound by the neck the proud tyrants, and put a stop to the subjugation of the weak (turned timid and ignorant) by the heartless articulate usurpers.

دىين وقهر عتاةى ى ىن التمر يامن الم الىين قاب التجب ى ي واذل رى ياطى الش

ي ورد كيد التسل ىطىعنى الستضعفىي

I beseech You in the name of Your absolute command over that which You will, the ease with which You render possible whatever You will, take a decision in the matter of my desires while You will.

يلىك اسئلك بىقدرتىك عل ما تشآء وتسهى ا تشآء كيف تشآء ان تعل قضآء لى

فىيما تشآء حاجتى[Go into sajda and put either side of your face on the earth, one after the other and recite:] O Allah I prostrate myself before You in adoration and put faith in You, so take pity on my humiliation, helplessness, struggle against difficulties, near collapse, misery and broke fortune, O my Lord!

ههم لك سجدت وبىك امنت فارحم ذل ى الل نتى ومسك عى واجتىهادىى وتضر وفاقتى

ى اىليك وفقرى يارب ى


And then recite 100 times:

بىلطفىك ياخفى االلطافى الىبىي اىقضى حاجتى حوائىجى الط ياقاضى(O He who satisfies the needs of those who ask, satisfy my request with Your Subtlety, O the one who makes available help through subtlety.
