Alzheimer’s disease – Worthy
Researches towards Meaningful
Horizons
Health is a cherished facet of human life! While Mother Nature has laid out a vibrant
ambience for us to live, very often we feel constrained in our capacities to cope up
with our life demands and difficulties. Such inconsistencies which could be physical or
mental, escort us to disease conditions and ailments. Most of us are today living with
some or other kind of health deviations and recall our healthy and sporty past
histories, especially of the youth times!
Of the major illnesses that have emerged as potent health threats are obesity,
stress, dementia, coronary heart disease and diabetes among others. While all the
talk about diseases cannot be altogether alienated from the human life and
existence, the focus therefore has to be on cures and treatments! We humans have
made striking medical discoveries in the past decades in our endeavor to control and
conquer the illnesses that afflict human life. While significant and life changing
successes are being achieved in some conditions like CAD and diabetes, there are
others like dementia and Alzheimer disease where the lacuna still looms large!
Alzheimer Disease – Much More than Geriatric Symptoms!
There has been a lot of research for the dementias, particularly Alzheimer Disease
in the top medical labs of the world. The neurodegenerative character of this disease
is still out of reach of the research capabilities and our best scientists and medical
professionals are busy to decipher the underlying intrinsic linkages. This disease
condition which is manifested mostly in persons of age over 65 was first described by
the German neuro - researcher in 1906. AD has been regarded as an old age
condition whose primary characteristic is ‘short term memory loss’ which is often
accepted as an old age symptom. However, the other symptoms that accompany are
the difficulty in remember and recall, the ability to think and reason in finer manner
and the general debility to respond with mental swiftness.
The progression of this disease is different for different individuals but the above set
of symptoms are generally present. The treatment options have been limited to
taking care of the affected old person and controlling the physical deviations that
accompany this disease! There are many institutes which are engaging in deeper
insights to decipher the causes and effect relationships for AD.
Roskamp Institute – Leading the AD Research
Roskamp Institute, Sarasota, US has conducted some pioneering researches at its
world class med labs and has succeeded in understanding some vital parameters of
AD! Michael Mullan, a distinguished scientist heads the institute and leads the
researcher’s fraternity engaged in the understanding dementias and AD in particular!
His researches have established some very significant linkages between
AD/Dementia and the life parameters which we often take for granted. His research
papers regarding ‘supplementation’ and its positive effects on alleviating dementia
and the catalyzing of AD on account of ‘sleep deprivation’ are well accepted and
admired ones!
Dedicated Initiatives at Roskamp Institute
Besides, Michael Mullan leads at the Roskamp Institute of Sarasota, US, the
‘Vision Research Program’ in neurodegenerative diseases collecting much vital and
useful data to work upon during in-depth researches of utility! While the cure for AD
still has to be established, there is an urgent need to devote calibers and energies to
the neurodegenerative diseases research!
