Positive Police Presence

Uniformed police will be coming into the school to mix with students informally. This

began last week with a basketball game at lunchtime. Also the local police will ensure

some supervision will be added to the road crossings after/before school when time

permits. A reminder about parking safely when collecting kids from school: there are

HELPING HANDS reminder

Parents and other volunteers with current Ochre Cards are always welcome in classrooms for various education

support – reading, writing, excursion supervision and so on. A volunteer school helper can access an Ochre Card

for a very low cost (about $5). The website for further information is www.workingwithchildren.com.au

School Safety

Alyangula Area School has just updated its emergency procedures policy and has begun to practise evacuations and

lock-ins. Preschool were involved in a new process called “Dragon Hiding” where they huddled together in a store

room hiding from the dragon. It was a fun way of practising an important procedure.

As another safety feature, the school will be installing a public address system to enable emergency messages to

reach the whole school simultaneously, and each classroom will be equipped with a telephone to call Amy in case

of emergency (no a café latte is not an emergency!). Thank you to Mel Moore who has worked tirelessly to update

the emergency procedures policy and guidelines.

Pest Control

Our school will be sprayed for pests during the April school holidays. NO children on the school

grounds please!

What an AWESOME day! Congratulations to all the students for your fantastic effort and sportsmanship at the swimming carnival on Friday. The final scores were just 26 points apart, with

our overall winners for 2016!

Well done to the who kept giving their all, right to the last race.

A huge thank you to all the Middle School students who came to the pool at 6.30am to help set up, assisted the ECU students in the pool with their races, then competed

themselves. You are AMAZING! Thank you also to the parents and friends who came down for your support. You all contributed in making it a great day.

At this Friday’s assembly we will be presenting medallions to our swimming champions from 8 years and up.
