Coffee is a brewed drink prepared

from roasted coffee beans, which are

the seeds of berries from the Coffee

plant. The genus Coffee is native to

tropical Africa (specifically having its

origin in Ethiopia and Yemen). The

plant was exported from Africa to

countries around the world. Coffee

plants are now cultivated in over 70

countries, primarily in the equatorial

regions of the Americas, Southeast

Asia, India, and Africa. The two most

commonly grown coffee are Arabica

and Robusta. Arabica is believed to

be the first species of coffee to be

cultivated and representing 60% of

global production that has sweeter

and softer taste while Robusta has

stronger, bitter taste and higher caf-

feine. Once ripe, coffee berries are

picked, processed, and dried. Dried

coffee seeds (referred to as beans)

are roasted to varying degrees, de-

pending on the desired flavor. Roast-

ed beans are ground and brewed

with near-boiling water to produce

coffee as a beverage.

Coffee is slightly acidic and has a

stimulating effect on humans be-

cause of its caffeine content. Coffee

is one of the most popular drinks in

the world. It can be prepared and

presented in a variety of ways (e.g.

Espresso, French press, Café latte,

Cappuccino etc.). It is usually served

hot, although iced coffee is a popu-

lar alternative. Coffee color is based

upon roasting level of coffee beans

(light brown, dark brown, beige and

black).

Agglomerated Coffee: Agglomerated coffee is coffee to which,

after being dried, powder is added, and then an additional steam

belt or steam curtain process is applied, which causes the particles

to bind together, thus forming granules. It is supplied as Instant

Coffee Classical or Express in the market.

Spray Dried Coffee: Coffee extract is sprayed into hot air,

which quickly dries the droplets and turns them into fine
