MAKE SURE YOU ARE DRESSED APPROPRIATELY FOR SCHOOL!

Frederic Remington: Dress like a cowboy or cowgirl. Dress western! Did you know… Remington went to college at Yale University and was a great football player and boxer for the college. -On his way to explore the West he had jobs as a sheepherder, cook, cowpuncher, stockman--on ranches

in Kansas and Montana. -He worked as a magazine illustrator for Harpers Weekly. -He wrote and illustrated 8 books. -Remington traveled with the U.S. Army and lived with Indian tribes -His experiences allowed him to be a great painter and sculptor of the American West. -Many of his sculptures include horses in action/movement, as well as his paintings.. Mary Cassatt: Dress with a fancy hat or like someone in one of her paintings.Did you know… Cassatt came from a wealthy family and traveled Europe as a child. She began her study of painting at 15.

-She used oil paint, chalk pastels, and printmaking to create her artwork.-Most of the subjects for her paintings were women and children/ mothers and children.

-Most often her subjects were very formal with fancy hats and gloves on. -She was fascinated with teatime and often painted teacups and tea service with the people she was painting.-She carried around a sketchbook so she could draw different “genre” (every-day people doing everyday things) scenes as they happened. -She learned from, was influenced by, and was considered mostly an Impressionist painter. These painters were not concerned with painting things realistic, but had lots of brush strokes, bright colors, and were more concerned with how the atmosphere and light affected the things they were painting.

Leonardo Da Vinci: Dress like Da Vinci or Mona Lisa, an inventor, or someone in his paintings or about his inventions in some way. Did you know… Da Vinci started as an apprentice at the age of 14 and studied metallurgy, plaster casting, carpentry,

chemistry, metal working, leather working, and mechanics. He also refined his artistic skills in modeling,

sculpting, and painting.-He was a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, draftsman, botanist, mathematician,

musician, scientist, and inventor.-He sketched the first parachute, aerial screw ( first helicopter),flying machine (first

airplane), fighting vehicle (first tank), first repeating rifle, swinging bridge, paddle boat and first motor car.

-He was one of the first artists to sketch outdoor portraits. -Da Vinci best represents the whole idea of the Renaissance time period of

inquiry and exploring art, technology, and inventions.

-The term “Renaissance Man” comes from Da Vinci and being “like” DaV inci who not only studied numerous subjects but also was a master and expert in them.-He believed art was connected to nature and science.-His most famous paintings are The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.-Da Vinci was dyslexic.-He had plans for a giant bronze horse sculpture but in that era just couldn’t technically

produce the cast.-He was a natural genius and would carry around his notebook sketching his ideas and wondered how his technology and inventions would come to pass in the future.
