This term, our topic will be ‘Lights, Camera, Action’. The children will be completing the following activities: This half term we will be thinking about different celebrations and beliefs. We will look at The Festival of Light – Diwali and listen to the story behind it. We will begin to think about the Christmas story and our Nativity. We will read the Elmer story and discuss difference which will lead into our PSED which is being a good friend. We have an arts week where we will concentrate on seasonal crafts and have a specialist in ‘Clay’ work doing workshops with the children. We will have Anti-Bullying week where we will use activities and games to support the children. In maths, the children will be: Counting to 10 and 20. Comparing and ordering numbers.

In maths, the children will be: Counting to 10 and 20. Comparing and ordering numbers. Knowing what number is 1 more and 1 less. Naming and talking about 3D shapes and their properties. Completing a repeating pattern. Beginning to understand weight. Learning simple addition.

In Literacy, the children will: Read the Elmer story and discuss the characters. Text map the story and add actions. We will innovate the story and change parts of it. We will continue our daily phonics sessions. Starting handwriting sessions. Learn to segment sounds to write – listen and hear sounds in words and blend them

to read using sounds buttons.

In Physical, the children will be:

Using a programme called ‘Let’s move’ and these will be dance based activities. The topics for these will be Diwali and Bonfire night.

Taking part in a daily Dough Disco sessions which will improve their gross and fine motor.

The children will need to listen to and follow instructions. Continue investigating the woodland outside areas.

In Understanding the world, the children will be: Examining materials and design our own Elmer using various materials. Discussing family traditions, we will look at Christmas around the world. Use technology to design a Christmas craft. Exploring the Christmas story and other celebrations such as Bonfire Night and Diwali.

In Expressive Art and Design, the children will focus on:

Bonfire crafts – exploring colour, shape and materials. Making clay divas – manipulating clay. Elmer crafts – exploring colour, shape and texture. Christmas cards and crafts – exploration and experimentation with material. Visiting the theatre to see a remake of Jack and the Beanstalk. Exploring music and playing instruments. We will be visiting a range of topics related

to familiar songs and rhymes.

Ways to help your child at home and suggested activities:

Please read as often as possible – books, comics, newspapers and signs when out and about.

Let your child be as independent as possible when dressing, eating and putting on coats and

fastening.

Readers’ Morning will continue every Thursday morning.

Open Morning for 2017 in take - Wednesday, 9th November

Remembrance Day ~ Children visiting church on morning of 11th November

Children in Need Day – Friday 18th November (details to follow).

Arts Week – w/b 28th November: Visit from ‘Claydayz’

Parents invited to see children’s Artwork on Thursday 1st December: 2pm (Note – date change).

Christmas Production – 8th December at 9:30am and 2:00pm

Christmas Fair – Friday 9th December, 4-6pm

Theatre Trip – Thursday afternoon, 15th December

Christmas parties and visit from Santa: 19th December

20th December: Last day of term
