Medicine Under Canvas Documentary The University of Kansas Medical Center is proud to present the Telly Award-winning documentary, Medicine Under Canvas, the story of the 77th Evacuation Hospital in WWII. The 77th formed in 1942 at the KU Medical Center and saw action in North Africa, Sicily and Europe. Cost: $0

Georgia Holland REACH lab tourThe Research in Exercise and Cardiovascular Health (REACH) Laboratory assesses cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and pulmonary fitness in healthy, clinical, and sub-clinical populations and is invested in developing effective exercise interventions that will maximize cardiovascular and pulmonary health in people with and without disease. The REACH Lab is interested in understanding how exercise interventions can improve overall health. We use non-invasive methods of assessment including vascular blood flow, heart rate variability, pulmonary function testing, body composition assessment, functional assessment of activities of daily living, maximal and submaximal exercise testing. Space is limited. Cost: $0

Cancer Center Lab ToursThe University of Kansas Cancer Center earned National Cancer Institute designation in June 2012. Ground breaking research is happening right here on the KUMC campus. Get a special insider’s tour of the Cancer Biology Lab & the Breast Cancer Research lab with our experts: Danny Welch, Ph.D. and Roy Jensen, M.D. You’ll see their lab space and learn more about their work in cancer biology, breast cancer metastasis, the BRCA1 gene, and more. Interprofessional Development – A Practical ApproachLearn how students from all programs – medicine, nursing, health professions, pharmacy and law – are working together in a transformative learning environment. The simulated exercises they engage in emphasize teamwork and patient-centered care, immersing the groups in dynamic, challenging situations with mannequins and patient actors to further their ability to treat and heal.Cost: $0

Interprofessional Development – Clinical Skills Lab See interprofessional development in action! Tour the Clinical Skills lab and see the mannequins and lab space where KUMC students are learning how to work together to best treat their patients. The Smallest Medical School Campus in the Country – How do we do it?

Come learn firsthand what it takes to operate a medical school campus in rural Kansas. The educational environment in Salina is as high-tech as it is intimate. Students learn with their peers on the Kansas City and Wichita campuses via interactive video and podcasts. Hear from the director of the KU School of Medicine-Salina, William Cathcart-Rake,

MD‘74. Michael Kennedy, MD’90, Associate Dean of Rural Health, will also discuss the history of the preceptorship program. Cost: $0

The Altered Health Insurance Landscape of 2013 & Beyond!Federal, state, and private sector innovations appear to be dramatically changing health insurance. The Affordable Care Act appears to be having an even bigger impact on health insurance than its establishment of exchanges and subsidies might suggest. Join a panel led by Prof. Bob Bonney of Saint Luke’s Health System and the Dept. of Health Policy & Management in a spirited exploration of what the changing health insurance landscape looks like from the perspectives of insurers, employers, brokers and providers.Cost: $0

Take a ticket when you enter the garage and bring it to the Alumni Weekend registration table for validation. Signs and volunteers will help direct you from the parking garage to registration.

Walking: The KUMC campus is large and it is a long walk from the parking garage to registration in the School of Nursing. Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and allow for walking time.
