I also want to thank Peggy WADE Barnett ’56 and Sue O’DRISCOLL Cox ’55 for compiling and arranging the information in the upcoming 2009 GWAA Roster Book which will be available for pickup at the picnic as well as to be mailed sometime in October via U.S. Postal Service to those remaining (paid-up) CURRENT GWAA MEMBERS who did not obtain their copy at the Picnic. If we find any of your contact information to be incorrect, e.g. mail to your address is (RTS) returned to sender, we will remove it. You will then have no address information, so we will not be able to mail your copy. This year at the picnic, we will have a “Great-Bake-Off” contest. Everyone is encouraged to bake a cake or pie and enter the contest. Prizes will be awarded to the best cake and best pie entries. If we have a successful turnout this year, we will make this contest a permanent part of our annual picnic. So, to all you bakers’ out there… get your pans shakin’ and start baking… In addition, a special thanks to Don Robey ’51 for the many hours he spent compiling, publishing and distributing a very successful booklet, the “Directory of the Graduates of Alex. H. S. 1919-1935 AND the Graduates from GWHS from 1936-1971.” In all, it’s over 13,000 names, schools and grad dates. Great for reference, fun to look through and a very helpful tool for genealogical research. It has also generated, with Don’s gentle urging, numerous donations to the GWAA. Don has certainly exhibited that “ON GW” spirit. David L. Beach – GWAA President On GW! On GW! On GW! On GW! On GW! From: “Sandra M. Curry” <[email protected]>Subject: Belated Benevolence for Bruce Brawner Morris ‘37

Hi. I wanted to let you know that my dear Father, Bruce Brawner Morris, (a very proud 1937 graduate of GWHS) passed away on July 1, 2004.He was an Alexandria resident for 79 years until he had a stroke and I moved both he and my Mother, Eloise, to Waynesboro where I make myhome now. My parents lived in the same house at 101 Uhler Terrace for 59 years. The Richs’ make it their home now but it has been designated“The Morris House.” Daddy was a WWII veteran, and was then employed by the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria before going to work for thegovernment. He was Past Potentate of KENA Temple and had his 33rd degree as a Mason. Also he was an avid member of the Alex. Sportsman’sClub and an honorary member of the Friendship Fire Department in Alexandria among other affiliations. His Dad, Jessie Morris, was the Mayorof the township of Potomac before Alexandria was a city. My Dad was a very special man. Thanks so much.
