President’s Message
Hello Everyone,
As I sit in front of the computer screen, I am trying very hard to write words
with grand ideas and thoughts. Well I’m not succeeding. All I can think of in
this early month of December, are all our accomplishments that occurred
during this year. There were many as you know because you were the part
that enabled us to succeed. I also think of the joy we had when we worked
as a team and when we sat back and relaxed. Some of our meetings were
that relaxing as were the Fifth Tuesdays. The gift wrapping fun we are about
to embark on should also be enjoyable and our final fundraiser. That will
really put us into the Christmas spirit. Oh, don’t forget our Christmas Party
on December 16th at 2pm. I am hosting the party which will be at the home
of Carol Fochler. Carol volunteered her house because she is super nice and
knows that my house can hold about six people comfortably. It would be a
standing room only party for seven or above . Watch your emails or texts for
more information about the party.
Now for 2019, we have some volunteering to do. Your Club needs you. We are
going to elect new Officers. We need a new Vice President, Secretary, and
Treasurer. We are blessed because we will have Silver (Sylvia Mendez-Smith)
as our President. Give this thought because you are needed. Just remember
You Never Walk Alone.
Also, the District Nine Conference will be in April. Plans are already in the mix
as to what we will do on the Friday Party at Conference. Volunteer your time
to go to the Conference, learn more about Altrusa, District Nine and each
other. Scary, isn’t it?
Well that’s it. There are no more words to come out of my mind. I am a part of
the reason that our December Newsletter is late. The words did not want to
leave my brain until now. See you at our Christmas Party.
Your President,
Rita

are from 10AM to 10 PM. The other one is at the San Pedro location where we have been the last 2
years, on December 19th and 22nd with the same time frame 10 AM to 10 PM. If you haven’t signed
up yet, contact Carol Fochler for info on time slots still in need of volunteers. Our members have

District Visitor, Governor Moore
We were very honored with the presence of our District Governor Linda Moore at our
November Business Meeting. Governor Moore not only passed along much great
widsom, she boosted us up with her acknowledgement of our success as a Club. She
was present for the presentation to our Veteran Jackie Fremming that we honored.
Governor Moore was also a part of judging the final winner of our grant project, “The
Storybook Character Pumpkin Project “ where the students had made pumpkins to
match the character in their storybook.

Dual Language Our Dual Language program will be on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at BHE. It will be
held at 11:00 AM. The Altrusans working with this program are Diane Castillo, Gloria
Jakubisin and Susan Even.
We went November 27. We read "The Tooth Fairy and El Ratoncieto Perez". It was
about the traditions of the tooth Fairy in English speaking countries and Spanish
speaking countries. Diane C and I did not know anything about El Ratoncieto Perez. It
was very interesting. We missed Gloria as she was unable to attend.

The Soldiers’ Angels
Remember we can collect and bring items to each
meeting. They had their 15th Anniversary
recently, I hope all of you saw the
wonderful email from Amy Palmer that Sylvia Z.
forwarded to us. Here is just 1 little section from it,
A thank you from one of the many that receive items from the Soldier’s Angels.
"I have been receiving the most wonderful packages for over a month now from
Soldiers' Angels and I just want to say that it truly is a blessing to open the cards and
the letters and all of the boxes. I love the letters. They make me soo happy. I even got
birthday cards for my 19th b-day in the mail! It almost brought me to tears." –
