Multicultural Public Speaking I had the pleasure of convening the local final of the Multicultural Public Speaking at Alstonville Public School on Tuesday 21 June. The speakers came form many different schools around the region to deliver prepared speeches and also impromptu speeches with the aim of being selected to represent their school at the regional finals next term. Our school was capably represented by Lachlan T and Lachlan D in the junior sec-tion. Lachlan T was awarded Highly Commended in the junior section and Lachlan D showed amazing growth during his prepared and impromptu speeches which will only improve with more attempts in the competition. Zoe and Ally were our Stage 3 representatives who found themselves speaking in a pool of highly competitive students. Mr Sim adjudicated this final and found the go-ing extremely tough with most students only being ranked in their final order after delivering their impromptu speeches! Zoe was awarded the winner of this section and will represent Alstonville Public School at the regional competition. A huge thank you to Coen for assisting Mr Sim with timekeeping, Lauren and Lucy for announcing and Delphi for escorting the speakers from the preparation room to the hall for the impromptu speeches. Mrs Kim Wheatland. Interschool Debating The two school debating teams travelled to Wyrallah Rd PS on 17 June to have a very awesome day! We participat-ed in four debates and everybody did a brilliant job. The blue team: Ally, Coen, Rachel and I won both of our de-bates. The red tea: Hannah, Adrian, Delphi and Bronte won one out of two debates, but they still presented an amazing debate. It was heaps of fun and I can’t wait to debate again. Zoe Year 6 Athletics Carnival We were lucky enough to have the rain hold off for our annual school Athletics Carnival last Friday. All students showed great enthusiasm and team spirit. Students who are selected to represent Alstonville Public at the District Carnival will receive their notes later this week. A big thank you goes out to all of our wonderful parents and carers who helped with various jobs on the day such as timekeeping and working in the canteen.

Best dressed on the day went to Oliver Coombs. Great outfit Ollie!

BEANIE MAKING IN 5 PERU 5 Peru has been a hive of activity this week making their very own beanies too keep them warm this winter. Mrs Wilkin has volunteered her time to teach the students to read patterns and sew using an over-locker. Our local opportunity shop donated fabric and the students are making their beanies from old recycled jumpers.

If you would like to make your own recycled fabric beanie you can check out this website: http://www.littlethings.com/diy-no-sew-beanie/ Thank you Mrs Wilkin for sharing your time with us!

Year 5 visit to BaptistCare Maranoa Centre Nursing home Non-scripture students in Year 5 had an enriching afternoon last Tuesday, spending time chatting, sharing their work, playing games and swapping stories with residents at our local nursing home. Many students mentioned how much they enjoyed helping out in our community. Well done Year 5!
