Welcome to the 2020 Alpine Ski Racing High School Championships. The Southern Oregon League of Alpine Racing (SOLAR) is honored to be your host for this event. We congratulate you for qualifying for this event and anticipate that these three days will inspire, challenge, and ultimately reward you with many fond memories.

Thank you to all the volunteers, parents, sponsors, and coaches who contribute their time, money, and talent to high school alpine racing throughout the season(s). None of this would be possible without you! We hope that you leave this season-ending event with new friends and an unforgettable experience.

Wednesday Night Athlete Social This year’s racer social, sponsored by TC Chevy, will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak Street, Ashland. Parking is limited, please plan to carpool. All athletes are invited and encouraged to attend. The event will be held in the great hall from 6 – 8 pm.

2020 Social’s theme is 80’s Throwback. Come prepared to dance, mingle, and make new friends. We will also have raffle prizes so be sure to sign in and get your ticket. You must be present to win. Food will be provided, and doors open at 5:30pm.

This opening event is certain to be a great time! Once racers enter the social, they are asked to not leave and return. You must be present to win any raffle prizes. Participating teams must provide an adult chaperone on the premises at all

times. One chaperone per school. Zero drug and alcohol tolerance policy. Any infractions of OISRA rules regarding

drugs or alcohol will result in disqualification. Do not put your team or yourself at risk.

Ski Waxing & Tuning Center Racers may use the waxing and tuning center at Bellview Ashland Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road, Ashland to wax their skis Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/evening from 3 – 8 pm. Bring your own tuning gear, table, and iron. Racers must be accompanied by coaches. Please respect others and leave your work area clean. Live Race Results Live race results may not be available due to data coverage. We will place updated information on the website and at the Mt. Ashland Lodge. If live race results are available, they will be broadcast on www.LiveTiming.com.

Friday Night Pre-Awards Dinner A BBQ Buffet dinner prepared by Mary’s BBQ will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St., Ashland. This will be a buffet style dinner with BBQ chicken, pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, and garlic bread. The cost is $15 per person and is available for purchase during online registration.

A ticket is required to be admitted to the Friday night dinner. Dinner will be served from 5:30–7pm. Entry to the Armory prior to 7:30pm will not be allowed without a dinner ticket. No exceptions. Closing Ceremony, Slide Show & Awards The closing ceremony, slide show and awards sponsored by TC Chevy will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory and will begin at 7:30pm. No ticket required – but no early entry prior to 7:15pm unless you have a dinner ticket. The event will include a speaker, and a spectacular slide show by Mike Juliana highlighting the two days of racing and other activities.

This year we have an opportunity to include your race photos in the slideshow. Please see Mike Juliana’s Photography site in the Souvenir Information Section for more information on how to include your event photos.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Academic Eligibility for Participation – Academic eligibility signed by the school needs to be in with the OISRA by Friday, February 14, 2020 for all athletes. Participation is determined in accordance with the OISRA rule book and individual league SOP’s.

Team Online Registration (Head Coach or Parent Representative) Teams will register online with the same site that they used to register for the regular season. Registration will open Saturday, February 22nd at 9 am.

Liability Waiver All athletes, coaches and volunteers must turn in a signed Mt. Ashland “Liability Release,” form. Release forms are to be submitted at registration check-in. A parent/guardian must sign the athlete’s release form, NO EXCEPTIONS. Forms will be available for download at the State Race website. League or Team Proof of Insurance (Certificate of Liability) All participating teams or leagues have to provide a Certificate of Liability for their commercial liability insurance policy, naming Mt. Ashland (11 Mt. Ashland Ski Road, Ashland, OR 97520) as an additional insured. Minimum insurance limits must be $1M each occurrence, $5M general aggregate.

Mandatory Race Workers (Gate Judges) Each team racing at the State Championships is required to provide one experienced gate judge for each event that the team has entered (see OISRA Alpine Policies, Section II, paragraph I. “Volunteer Race Workers”). These worker names are to be submitted by the team’s coach/parent advisor during online registration.

At Registration check-in, teams are responsible for submitting a gate judge deposit of $150 per race ($600 if registering Boys & Girls teams for both GS and SL). If your team provides the required experience race workers, the deposit check will be shredded after the final race on Friday. Checks may be written to SOLAR.

Gate Judges must attend a mandatory information meeting on Wednesday evening at 7pm at the Ashland Hills Hotel (see Race Schedule).

All Gate Judges are required to: Have prior experience as a Gate Judge MUST be skiers, due to the location of the races Complete the Mt. Ashland Liability Release Form Attend the mandatory gate judge meeting Wednesday evening Check-In at the Race HQ on Thursday and/or Friday mornings at the lodge during

the mandatory check-in time (see event schedule) Meet the Chief of Gates at the Mt. Ashland 3rd Floor Bar after check-in (be prepared

to go directly to the lift from this meeting)

During the registration process you will also have the opportunity to order some optional items: Pre-Closing Ceremony Dinner Tickets, Souvenirs (sweatshirts, t-shirts and hats), and a Photograph Package.

You will need to purchase your lift ticket through Mt. Ashland. One, two, or three day passes are available at a special rate of $30 per day. Athlete Lift Passes Athlete lift passes are required for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and will be available online at www.liftopia.com/mt-ashland. Purchased lift passes will be available for pick up during Registration Check-In by the Coach or Team Parent. Please be sure to bring a copy of your lift ticket receipt. We recommend Coaches or Team Parents purchase their team’s athlete lift passes in one lump purchase. See Registration section for more information.

Racer Lift passes will be available for $30/day and can be purchased as one, two or 3-day options. Eligibility for athlete lift ticket transactions will be monitored. Your name must appear on the start order for you to receive your “racer only” lift tickets.

Racer Notes Please be courteous and respectful to other athletes, volunteers, coaches, the public, and Mt. Ashland employees. Show your appreciation for all their hard work.

Familiarize yourself with the Mt Ashland terrain map (www.mtashland.com/trail-map/) prior to skiing. Remember that all athletes must adhere to the Skier’s Responsibility Code - Are You Aware.

Do not leave skis in non-designated areas outside of lodge. Mt. Ashland and OISRA are not responsible for theft or vandalism of your equipment.

Lift tickets or passes are required for all lifts at all times (training and racing). Helmets meeting FIS Specifications (see Alpine Race Rules, Section 2,

Paragraph A., 5., f.) are required for all training and racing. NO FAST SKIING IN SLOW AREAS! This will result in loss of lift privileges. Bags and equipment must be kept out of walkway and off tables. Race Bibs will be distributed to the team coach (or individual racers) at the coaches

meeting on Wednesday & Thursday nights. Bibs must be turned in after 2nd run on Thursday. Athletes may keep their

bib after Friday races. Athletes racing on Thursday but not Friday will receive a souvenir bib, please see Race HQ at Mt. Ashland.

Racer Transportation Racers are not allowed to drive themselves to the mountain for training day or either race day. NO EXCEPTIONS. If they do this, they will be disqualified. Wednesday Night Athletes Social See General Information Section for more information. The event will be held at the Historic Ashland Armory in the great hall from 6 - 8 pm. Check in begins at 5:30pm, food and raffle tickets will be given to each athlete. This year’s theme is White Out.

COACHES INFORMATION Note for Coaches The State Championship Race will be run using the OISRA Alpine Policies and Race Rules as governance. Coaches and their athletes need to be familiar with those rules before competition begins.

Coach complimentary lift passes are issued on a “per school” basis allocated according to the gender and size of the team. A school that only qualifies one racer is still entitled to

assign a coach to follow that individual racer. That coach will be issued a comp pass. A school with one girl racer and one boy racer is entitled to assign a separate coach to follow each racer and each of these coaches will be issued a comp pass.

Each school with 3 or more racers = 2 comp coach passes. Each school with a girl’s team, and a boy’s team of 3 or more racers of each

gender = 4 comp coach passes. Each school with 1 or 2 girl racers = 1 comp coach pass Each school with 1 or 2 boy racers = 1 comp coach pass

Additional coach passes will be available for purchase at the Mt. Ashland Race HQ at a rate of $30/day. Schedule of Events Please familiarize yourself with the Schedule of Events located in this Event Guide. Onsite Team Registration Check-in All teams (and individual qualifiers) must check-in upon arrival. You may check-in at either of these three times and locations:

Tuesday, March 4th at the Bellview (Ashland) Grange, 4 – 9 pm Wednesday, March 5th at the Mt. Ashland Lodge, Meese Room, 8:30 am - 3 pm. Wednesday, March 5th at the Bellview (Ashland) Grange, 5 – 8 pm

Check-in for teams and individuals must be completed by Wednesday 8 pm.

Note: The Gate Judges deposit is $150 per race (SL or GS), per sex. This would be a total of $600 for a school with both a boys and a girl’s team. This check will be destroyed at the conclusion of the Championships Race if duty is fulfilled (unless specified otherwise). Team Start Orders Your submission worksheet will be available for download at the state race website and is due by Tuesday, February 25th at Noon. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Mandatory Coaches’ Meetings All meetings will be held at the Ashland Hills Hotel in the Galaxy rooms.

Wednesday; March 4th at 8 – 9 pm Thursday; March 5th at 8 – 9 pm

Racer Bibs – Racer bibs will be distributed at the Coaches’ meeting on both Wednesday and Thursday nights. Any racer not running on Friday will receive a complimentary bib at registration.

After the second run on Thursday’s race, the racer bibs will be collected from all the racers at the finish line. The bibs will be sorted and re-distributed at the coaches meeting after the race. Teams will be charged $20 for lost or misplaced bibs from Thursday’s race.

At the conclusion on the second day of racing, the racer bibs will become the property of the racer. On-Hill Training – Wednesday, March 4th is the registered training day. Training lane assignments will be posted at the State Race website: www.alpinestaterace.org In addition, we plan to notify leagues directly of their course and time.

TRAINING NOTES o Teams must provide their own gates.

When transporting gates there must be a 2nd person or “Leader”. o A coach or parent representative must be at the top of the course at all times. o Courses must be pulled and slipped by the time indicated on the schedule. o Helmets are mandatory for GS & SL training and racing (hard cover over ears

and FIS certification required for GS).

OFFICIALS & VOLUNTEERS INFORMATION Mandatory Officials’ Meetings All meetings will be held at the Ashland Hills Hotel in the Galaxy rooms.

Wednesday; March 4th at 7 – 8 pm Thursday; March 7th 7 – 8 pm

Mandatory Gate Judge Meeting All Gate Judges regardless of which day you are working are required to attend this meeting. The meeting will be held at the Ashland Hills Hotel in the Galaxy rooms.

Wednesday; March 5th at 7 – 8 pm

At the gate judge meeting, gate judging responsibilities will be reviewed along with specific instructions related to this race. There will not be time to do this on the race mornings, so attendance at this meeting is mandatory. Other race workers are expected to attend the gate judge meeting to clarify any questions they may have.

Schedule of Events & Races Please familiarize yourself with the Schedule of Events and Race Schedules located in this Event Guide. Race Volunteer Race Day Check-in Check-in for Officials, Forerunners, Gate Judges, and other Race Workers (course workers, hand timers, etc), is at the Mt. Ashland Race HQ located in the Meese Room. Depending on your position, you will be issued a lift pass, and appropriate equipment for your volunteer duty. Please turn in your Mt. Ashland volunteer waiver at check-in.

Race workers will receive comp lift passes for the race venue during the day(s) worked. Complimentary Lift Pass At the end of each race day, race day volunteers must promptly return all items to the Race HQ. Upon your return of all equipment you will be given a complimentary lift pass. Hand Timers – Both GS and SL course hand timers must check in at the Timing Booth at 9 am to receive instructions and equipment. Timers will proceed directly to their course positions; timers need to be at their positions 15 minutes before Forerunners are to start. See the Race Schedule for times.

Forerunners – GS forerunners please check in at 8 am, SL forerunners please check in at 8:45 am. All forerunners should check in with the Start Referee 15 minutes before the start of the race.

SOUVENIR INFORMATION Photographer Mike Juliana Photography will be back in action taking shots during all the events of this year’s Alpine League’s State Ski Championships. This will be Mike’s 8th State Race. Many of you are familiar with Mike’s work from past state races.

State Race Photo Package – Get all of your GS, SL, candid, and award shots for just $60. Photos will be delivered digitally. You also get your own personal online gallery to share with family and friends. Delivery will be about a week after the race.

SOMETHING NEW THIS YEAR! Award Ceremony Slideshow This year you will be able to contribute your own photos to the slideshow along with Mike’s action shots. Sweatshirts, T-Shirts, and Hats All souvenir clothing is professionally screen printed and features the official 2020 State Race logo. Sweatshirt and t-shirt sizes are available in S-M-L-XL-XXL. Souvenir clothing items can be ordered by racers when they register online or earlier at the SOLAR online store. Coaches can also order clothing items when they (or parent reps) register online. All online order sizes are guaranteed if ordered by online registration deadline. Online purchase is strongly recommended.

All items are also available online outside of the OISRA registration process. Athletes, Coaches, Family members, Volunteers, and State Race fans please visit the SOLAR website www.msefskier.com/shop and click the shopping tab. Orders can be processed starting February 10th through Sunday, February 23rd. All merchandise will be ready for delivery at the state meet.

We will have a limited quantity of sweatshirts, t-shirts, and hats available for purchase onsite at the Race HQ at Mt. Ashland Wednesday and Thursday. There is no guarantee of sizing and styles available.

MOUNTAIN INFORMATION Parking Mt. Ashland is located within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Oregon Sno-Park Parking Permits are required. Annual Sno-Park Permits are $25, 3-day (consecutive) Permits are $9, and Daily Permits are $4 if purchased through the Oregon DMV. Permits may be purchased at Mt. Granite Grill The Granit Grill will be open for morning coffee/snacks, at 7am, and lunch.

Restrooms Restrooms are located throughout the lodge and the locker room/ski patrol building.

Medical Facility Medical attention may be sought by Ski Patrol at the Top of the Ariel Chair or at the Base Area in the Ski Patrol Office (Basement of the Locker Room).

Dogs/Pets The Mt. Ashland "Base Area" is a "Doggie Free Zone". Dogs must remain in the parking lot on a leash.

Cell Phones Cell phone service at Mt. Ashland is marginal. There are places on the mountain that have better service than others. Verizon, AT&T and US Cellular do have service and the Mt. Ashland lodge has free wi-fi.
