Growing up in California and Pennsylvania,
and settling in Orlando in 1976, Sandra ScheetzWise attributes her unique art style with helping
her triumph over a challenging childhood. Or-
phaned at fourteen, and raised by stepparents,
she sensed at an early age the emotional power
of her art when her stepfather locked himself in
his bedroom and wept upon seeing her painting.
She has won numerous prizes, both as a child
and an adult, for her paintings and sculptures.
She pursues the art of surrealism because it
allows her the use of enigmatic images whichflow spontaneously from her mind through her
hands onto the canvas. She feels these images
speak more directly to feelings rarely allowed
expression in our culture.
The artist uses everyday objects set in novel
combinations and environments in order to ad-
dress the inner torsions of the human psyche.
Certain symbols signify emotions, such as rope
which represents tension in life or relationships,
and twilight skies which represent feelings thatare kept hidden from society. Most important
to her are the carved twisted rocks that repre-
sent an individual’s character. The symbol of
the carved, split rock signifies how negativeinteractions with those close to us can forever
alter our character or personality. Events in
life can be forgiven, however, they will not be
forgotten and they will become a part of one’s
psyche.
Her paintings are not subtle and instead
command the viewer to “Look at Me.” It is evi-
dent that Sandra Scheetz Wise will always fol-
low her own path in the art world and, conse-
quently, give her viewers something to thinkabout. Check out more of her art at:

We need your help. Our group can onlyflourish if we have the help and input of allmembers. Recently, suggestions were re-
quested in order to possibly make changes tothe Constitution. While all input is welcome,we only got a limited response. We need to
do better.
Before the summer break, the board is re-questing that all members submit their ideas
regarding not only possible changes to theConstitution, but ideas on our group’s focusduring the coming year. Possible thoughts
for consideration: group shows in venueswhere members could sell their works, work-shops for artistic development, community
fundraisers, professional developmentgoals/wishes, committees to help withplanned events, officer nominations, etc.
You get the gist. As artists, we probablyhave a lot of creative thoughts on how tomake our league shine and be a real asset to
not only ourselves but the community. Let’shear from everyone!
Please submit your ideas in writing to Michael Sul-livan ([email protected]) or ArleneKartak ([email protected]). Suggestions will be
compiled, considered and voted upon and offered to members for their approval in the comingmonths.
