Hi All
Dear All It's with deep regret that I inform you that Ann Medhurst sadly passed away on Friday 24th January 2014. Ann had lived in the Tonbridge road area most of her life and attended West Borough School as a child. Ann was a member of ACA for quite a few years and will be sadly missed by all who know her? Secretary’s Sidelines
Sunday and it is raining, which means stay in
and do sidelines. Firstly Roger has given me
uncollected Christmas cards from the shed
and I have duly recycled them .
Secondly, please if your email address or any
of your details on the Members list have
changed, let your secretary know; that’s me
folks, and I will send out correction emails
at intervals. You may note that I have started
sending information to all, now that Clive has
shown me how to do it quickly, but correct
addresses are obviously essential.
Coaching
Continuing from previous months; you are not
using the clicker and are trying to use your
back.
How to do this:- Three fingers correctly on the
string and wrist straight, raise the bow and
right arm with slight pull on the string. Do not
aim at this point. Think about your right
shoulder and move it in towards your spine so
that it pulls your right arm and elbow back. Do
the strings test (see December) and rotate
your body slightly by bringing your left
shoulder forward. Note forward not up!!! Or
the string and/or arrow may hit your arm.
Now aim moving the sight up or down by
moving your waist (not hips) so the “arm /
string / bow limb” triangle does not change.
Finally move your shoulders outwards, away
from your body in opposite directions to
increase your draw length and relax your
fingers on the string.
The string should pass your relaxed fingers
and the released pressure should move your
hand and forearm backwards a few inches.
There should be no need to actively pull your
arm back if you had the pressure on at the
moment of release. If the arrow moves
forward just before release you are not
keeping the pressure on your back.
Many people do not move their waist (not
hips); you need to practice this at full draw.
Do this right and you may find shooting easier
and less tiring. Of course tight groups need
everything else done correctly and if arrows
are all now going high don’t hesitate to move
your sight up!
See you on the field
Colin

Captains Corner
It was with a sad heart that I heard the
news of another archer passing away.
Ann Medhurst, a long time member of the
Club, who held the position of Treasurer
for many years and always helped out when
ever she could. She supported on the
catering for MKL/STW/Whitefriars,
scoring for and organising with Colin the Sir
Thomas Wyatt for many years. She was the
long time partner of Stan Crowther, also a
Member recently deceased. Another name
to carve on the memorial arrow.
Fun Field shoot 15th Feb
Something different, a taster for field
shooting. Try another type of archery.
Open to all members BUT NO SIGHTS,
this means Longbow, Barebow, traditional,
and replica bows only. See Geoff B if you
want further details on bow classification.
There will be 9/10 targets with various
faces included, animal profiles, and
roundels. Covering the three main types of
field shooting styles National Animal,
Forester and FITA. As all the targets need
putting out on Saturday a few hands would
come in handy, from about 12:30 say.
