EMILY DOUGHERTY – Senior majoring in Agricultural Communication with a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision, from Greenwood, IN –INDIANA FARM BUREAU

“I had the absolute honor to intern with Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc. this summer. I was able to interview and then offered, the position based on connecting with an IFB representative at the Fall of 2018 Career Fair. Through this relationship, I was able to gain this amazing opportunity!

With Indiana Farm Bureau I served as the Regional Manager intern during the Summer of 2019! It was such a rewarding experience. I cannot speak highly enough of both the Farm Bureau employees and the Farm Bureau members I had the opportunity to work with. My duties included writing/designing a newsletter on behalf of the Women's Leadership Committee, working with another intern to plan the 2019 Taste from Indiana Farms Event at the Indiana State Fair and helping with IFB's grass-root programs by assisting at various events at the county level. Indiana Farm Bureau continually poured and invested into me by cultivating technical skills, personal development and deepening relationships within IFB and the agriculture industry. Not only did they care about my growth, but allowed us to use our creative minds and personal brand to leave a positive impact on Indiana Farm Bureau. It was such a positive and beneficial experience that I am ever grateful and I encourage fellow Boilermakers to consider opportunities within Indiana Farm Bureau.”

With our world population facing 9 billion people on earth by the year 2050 there are big expectations for our global food supply. Land O’Lakes is doing their part in developing students to help in this through the Global Food Challenge Program. Over the past 12 weeks I have worked with five other students from universities across the country to explore global agriculture and consult the Land O’Lakes Business Units on special projects. From our trip to Africa, to spending time with cooperatives in Kansas, it has truly been the experience of a lifetime!”

JACOB STEPHAN – Senior majoring in Agronomy with a concentration in Crop and Soil Management, and a minor in Food and Agribusiness Management, from Largo, IN – LG SEEDS

“This past summer I interned with LG Seeds, a seed company under AgReliant. I was the Sales Intern for the Northern Indiana region, and was the only intern for LG Seeds in all of Indiana. That was my third internship, my other two internships were with AgriGold, and Advanced Agrilytics, all of which I secured my position from attending the Purdue AG Career Fair. As the title of the internship suggests, I helped the salesman within the region. I helped with transferring seed, planting plots, returning seed, making seed and planting recommendations, prospecting, and working with their dealers. Without the Purdue AG Career fair, we would not have the access to over 150 companies that are all looking for interns, or someone to fill an open position. The Purdue AG Career fairs also helps with networking with other companies that you may not have heard of before, but they may spark an interest.”

CARRIE WINKLEPLECK – May 2019 Grad, majored in Agronomy with a concentration in Agronomic Business and Marketing with a minor in Food and Agribusiness Management from Odon, IN – AgRELIANT GENETICS –Research Associate, Lebanon, IN

“During the 2019 Purdue Spring Career Fair I remember walking around the Black and Gold gyms wondering if I would be able to snag a job before August. One of the last booths I stopped by that day was AgriGold’s. When the representative discovered that I had worked for one of their parent companies the previous summer she was interested in knowing more about my background. My resume was passed on to the appropriate personnel and they recommended I apply online for a research associate position.

After my experience with AgriGold at the career fair I made applying to AgReliant Genetics, one of their parent companies, my top priority. Within a couple of months I accepted a position as a Research Associate for AgReliant Genetics. On May 11th I walked across the Elliot Hall of Music stage to receive my diploma and six days later I was on the back of a planter dumping seed packets for test plots.

During the last three months of being employed I have had incredible opportunities to grow as a young agronomist. My team manages 11 yield trial locations scattered throughout Indiana and Ohio. These locations must be planted, scouted bi-weekly, and harvested by our team. We also take time to collect pertinent notes needed by the breeders at these locations. During this particular period of time we are collecting plant ear heights which involves taking a 13 foot measuring stick out into the test plots to collect the average height of the plants and the ear height. We hope to start harvesting near the end of September.”
