What Exactly is ANSI?

● Let us first understand what the ANSI pump standard is. The full form of ANSI is American National Institute Pump standard. The American Voluntary standards were the base from where ANSI evolved. The nineteen fifties was the period when Manufacturing Chemist Association proposed the use of ANSI pumps.

● Certain standard dimensions that can be found in below category:

1. Bolts held down by the pump location

2. Centerline distance amongst discharge nozzle and suction

3. Pump coupling height

● Three Standars Lenghts of These Standard Pumps Are Below:

1. 17.5 in

2. 23.5 in

3. 33.875 in

● The standards for ANSI have seen numerous revisions and alterations right from its inception. There are also talks to combine these standards with American Petroleum Institute (API) standards for creation of one single standard pattern for the centrifugal pumps all across America. This combination will result in a merger of issues that are inherent with both these standard types.

● The primary issues with all this and also the similarity in standards is that both were being drafted for the packed pumps. The change related to the combination of these two standards is being considered for reflecting the accentuated mechanical seals usage.

● The obvious of all these changes is oversize boxes for stuffing being accepted.

● And finally the ANSI committee accepted the fact that pumps; especially short pumps having shafts of numbers L3/D4, is the right approach if the competitive approach is to be maintained.

Some important issues and alteration talks associated with ANSI

Types of ANSI pumps

● ANSI pump parts and the overall type of pumps varies. This is due to the fact that process pumps in themselves are a very huge category. This results in variation with regards to ANSI pump parts and their construction details.

● Some of these types are centrifugal heavy duty pumps which are primarily manufactured for moving fluids which can be corrosive, abrasive of highly volatile.

● ANSI Pumps are generally made from exotic metallurgy.

● For use in semiconductor manufacturing applications, scientific research and medical research activities these pumps are made from plastic material. ANSI pumps have B73.1 standard

● With the passage of years, one thing that is evident is that the ANSI pump has excessively earned the good impact of industries and is preferred by many with regards to end suction. This is due to applications for chemical processes and also because of lesser aggressive services
