Save Their Mothers.Ms. Frech, herself an advocate for the unborn, describes her devastation when she discovered she had an unplanned pregnancy. She could empathize with abortion-minded women, as she imagined using a non- abortifacient prescription drug to terminate her pregnancy. In the end she did not; in fact. she suffered a very early miscarriage. But this experience made a lasting impact on her regard for terrified pregnant women. She writes, I learned that night that for many women its not about killing that baby. Its about being not-pregnant. They dont want to cause harm or pain; they simply want to turn back time. That choice to abort feels in that moment not like a decision as much as an escape hatch. It s a doorway back to a time before. She continues, If we want to save the children, we have to save their mothers. We need to reach out to them in love and understanding, without judg- ment or marginalizing the fears which have driven them to such a dark place . . . We need to find a way to help them carry their burdens until theyre no longer looking for an escape, but a life raft. This is precisely Birthrights approach. I believe the burdenMs. Frech refers to is not a child, but rather the fear and isolation women feel when they are over- whelmed by an unplanned pregnancy. Weve had several women come to us very dis- tressed about their pregnancies. Despite our best efforts to love them to life, that is, help them love the child they carry, some choose to abort. Then there are some who slow down when we ask, What does your heart say to do?Together slowly we exca- vate that mountain of anguish to uncover the wonder of a new life growing within her. When fear and anger are appropriately dealt with, hope fills the void. Not one but two lives are saved. Thats what were talking about. We love them both. Hello Friends,

This winter has been harsh with persistent freeze, but we all exhale with relief

that spring has arrived to bring a welcomed beauty. Currently our office is under con-

struction, and soon it, too, will usher in a welcomed beauty. What began as a small

bathroom floor replacement has morphed into the removal of 2,300 lbs. of concrete

from the first floor ceiling. We will keep you posted with before-and-after photos.

Soon our office will be attractive and safer than ever. For those of you who have con-

tributed to our Lenten appeal, we are immensely grateful. For those who have not,

please consider doing so. A routine renovation has created substantially more cost that

we did not anticipate until work began.

Recently I read an article by Rebecca Frech on patheos.com called, “Want to

Save the Babies? Save Their Mothers.” Ms. Frech, herself an advocate for the unborn,

describes her devastation when she discovered she had an unplanned pregnancy. She

could empathize with abortion-minded women, as she imagined using a non-

abortifacient prescription drug to terminate her pregnancy. In the end she did not; in

fact. she suffered a very early miscarriage. But this experience made a lasting impact

on her regard for terrified pregnant women. She writes, “I learned that night that for

many women it’s not about killing that baby. It’s about being not-pregnant. They don’t

want to cause harm or pain; they simply want to turn back time. That choice to abort

feels in that moment not like a decision as much as an escape hatch. It’s a doorway back

to a time before. “ She continues, “If we want to save the children, we have to save

their mothers. We need to reach out to them in love and understanding, without judg-

ment or marginalizing the fears which have driven them to such a dark place . . . We

need to find a way to help them carry their burdens until they’re no longer looking for

an escape, but a life raft.”

This is precisely Birthright’s approach. I believe the “burden” Ms. Frech refers

to is not a child, but rather the fear and isolation women feel when they are over-

whelmed by an unplanned pregnancy. We’ve had several women come to us very dis-

tressed about their pregnancies. Despite our best efforts to love them to life, that is,

help them love the child they carry, some choose to abort. Then there are some who

slow down when we ask, “What does your heart say to do?” Together slowly we exca-

vate that mountain of anguish to uncover the wonder of a new life growing within her.

When fear and anger are appropriately dealt with, hope fills the void. Not one but two

lives are saved. That’s what we’re talking about. We love them both.

From our family to yours we wish you a beautiful Easter season.

An Birthright Volunteer’s Experience . . . Three years ago, I called Nan to see about volun-

teer opportunities. I had been touched by the plight of

women in crisis pregnancies and felt that I was called to do

something to help them be able to choose life. Birthright

had the perfect mission. When I talked to Nan, she told me

the biggest need was for people who would work with the

clients. I thought, “I can’t do that,” but Nan is very per-

suasive. And I’m so glad she was because volunteering

here has been a very rewarding experience. It is an honor

to hear women’s stories. I feel good when I can refer them

to services that will make their life a bit more easy. But

most of all, I see the value of just being present. Knowing

that someone will listen to them without judgement, that

someone really cares, enables the mothers to take joy in

their pregnancies. It is always a special day when clients

bring in their babies to show us. They beam with pride and

love. I have found that they give far more to me than I give

to them.

In addition to working with clients, I organize baby

clothes and put together layettes, help with mailings, and

assist with fundraisers. Each time I come it’s a little differ-

ent.

Maybe you too are thinking as I did, “I can’t do

that.” Rest assured you can. The only thing you need is a

caring heart. Please consider joining us - we need your

time and talent!

My Experience Here at Birthright….

My experience at Birthright Inc. has been a joyous

one. I have the opportunity to engage at several health fairs

and meet so many new people. I also attend board meetings

and holiday functions. I do preparations for Birthrights

fundraisers as well as serve pregnant young women that

come to us and need assistance. I am learning all the time

from the best people, and I have the freedom to think outside

the box. I’m allowed to grow and show my potential as well.

The staff at Birthright Inc. are a pleasure to work

with and make it enjoyable to come to work. I have never

worked for a company that feels like working with my fami-

ly, in a good sense. We all work hard and are recognized for

doing so. Ms. Nan & Ms. Sanae are positive, caring, and

very friendly, yet professional in a way that is amazing. I

look forward to serving many years with Birthright in know-

ing that it’s only going to get better from here on out! Thank

you all for making my experience here at Birthright a won-

derful one!
