One idea that I liked is the use of words coming up on screen

throughout the song which are meant to show people’s

thoughts. This is really creative and links in with the song

lyrics. It is a part of voyeurism as the audience wouldn’t

usually know what the band members are thinking. Another

way that voyeurism is used is through showing All Time Low

backstage which very few fans would ever see.

The genre of this music video is a performance video as the band are shown on stage performing their song at a

concert. For this type of music I think that this is effective as it shows the band playing their own instruments and

their crowds reaction to this.

Star iconography is also shown through a range of shots which focus on the artists. Each member of All Time

Low is shown various times, with the whole band being shown in long or mid shots and then single members

being shown in close ups. This allows the audience to see the band as well as each member as they may

recognise them or have a favourite who they want to see.

The text appearing on screen is sometimes insulting

people appearing in the video as well as referring to

other bands, although the insults doesn’t actually refer to

any other bands in particular. I think this could be seen

as intertextuality as it shows All Time’s Low disapproval

of the general behaviour of other groups or bands in a

slightly mocking way.

The words on screen also refer to other bands such

as Fall Out Boy which is also intertextuality. This

includes one man wearing a Fall Out Boy T shirt.

The lyrics and visuals of this video match as

there is a lot of lip syncing due to it being a

performance video. I think that the visuals that

aren’t lip syncing tend to match the over all

message of the song, rather than individual lines

of the song.

According to Goodwin’s theory, the music and visuals of a song will match such as editing on the beat or a song

with a quicker beat having a music video with a quicker pace. In this case I counted a huge number of beats with

around 81 per minute and around 50 shots per minute. This is because the pace starts of quite slowly, then

builds up and increases rapidly for the chorus. The shots vary from very quick shots to longer shots, such as

zooming or panning to tell the audience what someone in the audience is doing or thinking. I really like how the

shots vary length and I think that the music and visuals do match as the editing has a quick pace which links in

with the pace of the music.
