All That Jazz It’s a familiar sound at the tower – the classic jazz tunes of pianist, composer and producer, Rick Gallagher. Since 1995, Rick has been the tower’s spotlight pianist. He fondly remembers bringing his children to the tower when they were quite young. “I would occasionally bring one of them in while I was playing my shift. I would set them up with a coloring book under the piano and get them something from Starbucks to keep them occupied,” he recalls. “It definitely brought some extra entertainment to the lobby.” Today, Rick’s four children range in age from 11 to 17. As his children have grown, so has his musical career. Over the years, Rick has done solo and group work in a wide range of contemporary styles – finding his voice as a player and composer in classic jazz. He has worked with many of the region’s top jazz musicians, singers and bands. We asked Rick a few questions as he starts his 23rd year at the tower. Who is your favorite artist? Tough choice! Probably Red Garland or Oscar Peterson, but many others come to mind. And your favorite love song? Another tough choice! Here are two: “Body and Soul” and “My One and Only Love.” Tell us something people would be surprised to know about you. I like to do construction projects – I put an addition on my house. What’s new for 2018? I’ve been composing and producing music for film and TV for a few years now. This year, I have my first digital “not jazz piano” release under the artist name “Rick Gallagher Project.” You can listen and follow on Spotify, Pandora, AppleMusic, iTunes and other music streaming sites. For more about Rick and his music, visit www.rickgallagher.com. And be sure to stop by the lobby and introduce yourself. Rick is always glad to meet tenants and play their special requests. Energy Star Leader The tower has been awarded Energy Star Certification for 2017. It’s the second year in a row the building has earned the prestigious recognition. Thank you to all our tenants who help make this possible with your focus on saving energy.
