1. Show the following sequence to jump into the water,
turn around, swim back to the point of entry and hold
onto the side or rail
2. Submerge completely and blow bubbles under the
water
3. Push and glide achieving a distance of 2m on the frontOR back
4. Float on the front or back and regain standing/vertical
position
5. Swim 5m on the front or back using an over water arm
recovery
6. Exit safely showing correct use of the ladder
(steps if no ladder is available)

7. Move into a stretched floating position using aids, equipment orsupport.
8. Regain an upright position from on the back, with support
9. Regain an upright position from on the front, with support
10. Push and glide in a horizontal position to or from a wall
11. Take part in a teacher led partner orientated game.
12. Demonstrate an understanding of the pool rules.
13. Exit the water safely.

Stage 9 Competitive Swimming
1. Complete a set lasting 800m (e.g. Either 16 x 50m; 8 x 100m; 4 x
200m) on a specific turn around time set by the coach (e.g. 1.30min
for 50m; 2.45min for 100ms; 6.00min for 200ms)
2. Swim 800m continuously choosing 1 stroke
3. Swim a continuous 100m IM using legal turns
4. Perform a 15m underwater kick on front in a streamlined position
5. Perform a Backstroke start then Butterfly kick in a streamlined
position until 10m from the start point (wall) transfer into stroke and
complete the remainder of 25m
6. Perform a Frontcrawl start, underwater kick in a streamlined position
until a minimum of 10m from the start point (wall) is completed,
transfer into stroke and complete the remainder of 25m
7. Perform a Butterfly start, kick in a streamlined position until a
minimum of 10m from the start point (wall) is completed, transfer into
stroke and complete the remainder of 25m
8. Perform a Breaststroke start, perform a 1 pull under water, transfer
into stroke and complete the remainder of 25m
N.B. All starts are to be done by take your marks, go by the coach.
The go can be by whistle or shout

PERSONAL SURVIVAL AWARDS
CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS
Swimwear, long sleeved shirt, long sleeved jumper and trousers or skirt
LEVEL 1
1. Enter water of at least full reach depth from the side of the pool by sliding in from
a sitting position
2. Tread water for 2 minutes
3. Swim 25m to a floating object
4. Take up and hold the H.E.L.P position for 5 minutes in water of at least full reach
depth.
5. Swim 50m retaining the floating object
6. Climb out of the water of at least full reach depth without using the steps or rail or
any other assistance.
7. Answer 3 questions on when the skills learned might be used
LEVEL 2
1. Enter water of at least full reach depth using a straddle entry
2. Tread water for 2 minutes with 1 arm out of the water (the raised hand to be
above the head throughout, candidates may change arms twi ce)
3. Swim 25m to a floating object
4. Take up and hold the H.E.L.P position for 6 minutes
5. To participate in a HUDDLE for 2mins using any floating objct for support with atleast 2 other similarly clothed swimmers, who may be candidates
6. Swim 100m retaining the floating object
7. Climb out of the water of at least full reach depth without using the steps or rail
8. Answer 3 questions on when the skills learned might be used
