YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE “Already dedicated to him through Baptism, the person
who surrenders themselves to the God they love above
all else thereby consecrates themselves more intimately
to God’s service and to the good of the church.”
—Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 931
A NOTE FROM YOUR PASTOR As most of you know, this year I celebrated the twentieth anniversary of my ordination as a priest.
I take consolation in the fact that I was providentially ordained on my birthday, July 8th. I take it as a small
sign that I was born to be a priest, to serve God's people the best I can. Even bigger consolations were all the
kind comments this past weekend, encouragement and promises of prayers as we celebrated Priesthood
Sunday. Thank you. I can't tell you how much it means to me.
This assignment, quite frankly, has been challenging but also fulfilling in my priesthood. These
fifteen months has been a privilege to journey with you. No doubt we have come to know one another's
virtues and vices, strengths and weaknesses. But, "Where sin abounds, grace abounds all the more," as St. Paul wrote.
So let's keep praying, working and looking for the miracles that God will then send our way. They will come. In fact, I have
seen some already. I have seen the Holy Spirit working in so many of you. You are definitely God's people. Thank you for
your willingness to take this journey of Faith, Hope and Love with me. God bless you! Fr. Joe
Vocation Awareness Week begins today! During this week,
let us be aware of our need to answer God's call in our
lives. That call began at Baptism, and continues as we live
out the vocation to the married life, the single life, the
consecrated life, and the ordained life. In a special way, let
us pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life in
our families. Our children and our grandchildren need to
know that we will encourage and support them if God calls
them in this way. During this week, there will be a table in
the BWC entrance with information about vocations, along
with some prayers for vocations. Please stop and pick up
some materials. For more information, you can check out
www.gbvocations.org or www.usccb.org.
Vocation Prayer
Gracious God, you have blessed me with many gifts and
talents. Grant me the wisdom to know how best to use them
for the glory of your name. Jesus calls, "Come follow me." I
want to follow you and be faithful to my call. Help me to
see in myself what you see, and give me the courage to
follow wherever you may lead. Bless the Church with
generous hearts, eager to serve your people and to spread
your Word. Amen.
HOLY COMMUNION
DISTRIBUTION CHANGE Beginning this weekend, the Extraordinary Minister of
Holy Communion will no longer go out to the Resurrection
Room to distribute Holy Communion. All parishioners are
encouraged to sit within the body of the church for Mass.
Anyone with difficulty walking or kneeling are asked to sit
in the first two rows where you can remain seated
throughout Mass, even for communion. Those with walkers
are welcome to sit in the front pews and keep their walkers
with them. The desire is to have all parishioners fully
experience the sacrament of the Mass together and feel
welcome to join us around the table of our Lord as part of
our faith community. So please join us inside church to
more fully participate in Mass.
In our effort to have the Mass flow smoothly, the
Eucharistic Ministers will now remain in one place
throughout Holy Communion. This new procedure will
require a change in the flow of Communion lines. Please
follow the ushers as they have been instructed of this
change. We ask your patience as we attempt to implement
these new procedures and work out any bugs.
POPE FRANCIS’
MONTHLY PRAYER INTENTIONS Universal: That we may be open to personal encounter and
dialogue with all, even those whose convictions differ from
our own.
Evangelization: That pastors of the Church, with profound
love for their flocks, may accompany them and enliven
their hope.
PRAYER CORNER
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood
of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses
said throughout the world today, for all the holy
souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in
the universal church, those in my own home and within
my family. Amen.
The Prayer of St. Gertrude, above, is one of the most
famous of the prayers for souls in purgatory. St. Gertrude
the Great was a Benedictine nun and mystic who lived in
the 13th century. According to tradition, our Lord
promised her that 1000 souls would be released from
purgatory each time it is said devoutly. During this
month of November, dedicated to the holy souls in
purgatory, make sure to pray it every day!
