Stewardship: Sharing our Time, Talent and Treasure …
Entrance Antiphon: Turn your eyes, O God, our shield;
and look on the face of your anointed one; one day
within your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere.
First Reading (Jeremiah 38:4—6, 8—10). You bore me to
be a man of strife for the whole world.
Responsorial Psalm: Lord, come to my aid!
Second Reading (Hebrews 12:1—4). Let us bear patiently
the struggle placed upon us.
Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! My sheep listen
to my voice, says the Lord, I know them, and they
follow me. Alleluia!
Gospel (Luke 12:49—53). I have
come not to give peace, but discord.
Gospel Reflection: Jesus comforts those who are afflicted, but also “afflicts” and removes those from their comfort zones.

ALL SAINTS PARISH ALBANY CREEK
The time we have is a gift from God that we need to use wisely.
Welcome to Mass today at All Saints, Albany Creek. This weekend we welcome, in Fr Ron’s absence whilst on his annual leave, Fr Bavin Clarke and Fr Harry Chan. Fr Bavin will join us to officiate at the Saturday 6pm and Sunday 7am and 9am Masses, and Fr Harry will officiate at the Sunday 5.30pm Mass. The parishioners of All Saints thank you both for keeping our “home fire burning”, In Scripture, fire is used symbolically as God’s judgment to purify the just and destroy the evil. In Luke’s Gospel, the image is that of the earth’s inhabitants set “on fire” by the message of the Gospel. From Jesus himself, he firmly states the purpose of his coming, being to test the hearts of men and women; that division results between those who accept Jesus and those who reject him. Ultimately he is saying that his good news is bad news for those who reject him. In your prayers, please pray for Dan Monaghan (Phil’s brother) and Bob Megaw who died recently, for the sick members of our parish, and for Bill Calder whose anniversary occurs at this time.
If you ever wish for Prayers or a Mass offered for your loved ones, please ring the Parish Office on 3264 8283.

Share the Dignity is about helping people who are in real need. Homelessness and
family violence are big challenges for most communities and people can make a real difference
close to home with small acts of kindness.
All Saints Parish is delighted to support this campaign by providing our Church as a collection point for donated pads, tampons and personal hygiene products via the plastic collection box at the back of
the church. Thanks for your support.

PLENARY COUNCIL 202O
The second phase of preparing for Plenary 2020 is about to get under way in
our parish. This involves Listening and Discernment. It’s a similar process to
that which we followed in the Listening and Dialogue phase earlier this year.
It’s a process of communal discernment of the six National Themes, which
emerged from the first round of discussions. We will explore one theme each
month. To help you prepare, there will be a snapshot of the themes in the news-
letter each week. The first theme is:
How is God calling us to be a Christ-centred Church that is Missionary
and Evangelising?
Join us in the parish centre on Wednesday, August 28 at 7pm OR Thursday,
August 29 at 10am.
Please take the time to read the Snapshot Report before attending at:
plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au.
For more info contact Anne Frawley-Mangan: [email protected]
PLENARY COUNCIL 202O: Listening and Discernment
Join us on either a Wednesday night (7pm) or Thursday morning (10am) for the
next stage of this process. Each month we will explore one of the 6 National
Themes which ask us “How is God calling us to be a Christ-centred Church that
is…”
August 28/29 …Missionary and Evangelising
September 25/26 …Humble, Healing and Merciful
October 30/31 …Inclusive, Participatory and Synodal
November 27/28 …Prayerful and Eucharistic
Go to plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au for a detailed report on each of the themes.

BIBLE JOTTINGS
How many mes in your life have you heard or said the words: “Pracce makes
perfect”? Usually it is in the context of sport or music, but what about in
prayer? Fr. Ed Broom, OMV, says: “Prayer is the key to salvaon. Prayer is our
strength in all mes and places.” Just as athletes, accomplished musicians,
teachers or writers strive for their goals by gri/y determinaon, so should we
strive to grow constantly in prayer. St. Teresa of Avila, the Doctor of prayer,
stated: “We must have a determined determinaon to never give up prayer.”
Fr. Broom, says: “Before starng any formal prayer period, why not invoke the
Holy Spirit to enlighten your mind and ignite your heart.” It is not always
possible to dedicate a specific period of me to daily prayer, but as St. Jose
Escriva said: “We’ve got to be convinced that God is always near us. We live as
though he were far away, in the heavens high above, and we forget that He is
also connually by our side. He is there like a loving Father. He loves each one
of us more than all the mothers in the world can love their children – helping
us, inspiring us, blessing …. and forgiving.” St. Therese of Lisieux, the Li/le
Flower said: “I have not the courage to force myself to seek beauful prayers in
books; not knowing which to choose I act as children do who cannot read; I say
quite simply to the good God what I want to tell Him, and He always
understands me.” Just as we can text and message our family and friends
during the day, we can mentally text or message a short prayer or phrase, such
as: Jesus, I trust in you; or Jesus, remember me; or Jesus, Mary and Joseph, my
family is yours. Guard them in your heart.
