Dear Parent/Carer

Year 12 Work Experience – July 2020

As part of the overall curriculum, we are writing to inform you that all Year 12 students from All Saints School will soon have the opportunity to participate in a one week work experience placement. Work experience provides a valuable opportunity for students to develop their understanding of the world of work, to develop employability skills, and to increase their awareness of potential careers.

The date for the work experience placement is 13th – 17th July 2020

Whilst we will make every effort to identify a work experience placement which matches your child’s preferences, demand to undertake work experience in some sectors exceeds the number of placements we have available. Therefore, students are encouraged to find their own work experience placement where possible. Students who arrange their own placements are more likely to experience a work environment which closely matches their career aspirations and interests and employers will often prioritise those students who have approached them as they see this as a positive indication of the student’s interest in their sector. All students have had an assembly to introduce the work experience programme and how they can actively get involved in trying to find a suitable placement. Work experience placements may be found through personal contacts, or by students contacting companies that interest them. Once a placement has been found, the attached form needs to be completed by the student, parent/carer and employer and returned to the school by 22nd November 2019.

Where students are unable to arrange their own placement, we will ensure that a suitable work experience placement is found. However, whist every effort will be made to match this to your child’s preferences, we cannot guarantee that it will be in the career or industry which most interests them.

We will visit all placements, whether found by students or provided by our team, to ensure their suitability for students.

Work Experience is productive and worthwhile for all students. Together, with your support we can ensure that students gain invaluable skills and insight into the working environment. This is an ideal time to start talking to your child about what type of employment they have an interest in, as this is ultimately the major factor in deciding which employer they will choose to approach to secure their work experience placement.

We appreciate all the work that goes into finding the right placement for your child and the parental support given.

Thank you in anticipation of your cooperation.

Yours faithfully
