Two months after the release of this album, she plans to

hold a big two-day concert at Yoyogi National Gymnasium

entitled: “The adventure of Yui Horie V: Targeted School

Festival”. Yeah, it kind of loses a lot in the translation.

This concert is scheduled for the 7th and 8th of March. To

live into the theme of this concert, she dressed in a school

uniform during the press conference. Now take a look at

that kawaii face, and tell me how old you think she is?

That’s right, she is 38 this year. Unbelievable right? The

Japanese have gotta let us in on their secret to eternal

youth.

All Otaku promises to keep SA community up to date on

the major happenings Japan, and will at least try to profile

a different voice actor in each issue in order to get the

community informed!

Ms. Horie then proceeded to form a temp unit with

Yukari Tamura in 2001 and together they released

two singles, one of which was used in the Love Hina

Christmas Special. In 2005, the founded Alice5 and

included 4 more voice actors. Sadly, Alice5 was

disbanded in 2007. After this debacle, she became a

free agent. Today, she is affiliated with VIMS, a

division of “I’m Enterprise”. She has published seven

independent musical albums, which nearly all

incorporated at least one track from an anime she

worked with. Ms Horie has her own radio show,

which first broadcasted in October 2002, and can be

heard on the Japanese station JOQR (AM 1134 kHz)

at 22:00 – 22:30 every Sunday. As expected, she also

has a lot of fans, but her official fan club is called:

“The Black Cat Alliance”.

Now that we are a little better acquainted with Ms

Horie, let’s get back to the news. Late May she had a

press conference on Nico Name Housou’s live

broadcasting program called: “Washi-Sta Igai to

Omoshiroi Bangumi” and announced the release of

her ninth album (title still undecided)! This album

should be available on the 9th January 2015. Her

previous album, “Himitsu” (Secret) was released on

the 22nd February 2012 and was ranked 3rd on the

Oricon weekly album rankings in the first week! We

here in SA do not really have an official counterpart

to Oricon, we more have a whole bunch of

independent top “x” lists that radio stations compile.

The good news don’t stop there (well, for the

Japanese people anyways).

Every story needs a hero and until the Lego Movie finds one

Emmet will have to do.

Eight years ago the Wizard Vitruvius fought the evil Lord Business for control of the horrifying super

weapon, the Kraggle.

In the city that he lives in, Emmet is the most perfectly round peg in a round hole with nothing at all to

separate him from the thousands of other Lego minifigs that inhabit his city. He buys expensive coffee,

sings the "Everything is awesome" song, but when an unlucky series of events causes the one thing that

can halt Lord Businesses sinister plans is to be attached to his back, Emmet must discover what it truly

means to be special.

The Lego movie is a triumph, a work of art and one of the funniest comedies of the year, the team that

brought us 21 Jump Street have struck again with the Family film of the year.

When I first heard about this movie I was sure it would be terrible, I mean a movie about Lego could

only end in a cheapo toy tie in and given that the other films in this genre include the abysmal

Transformers and GI Joe movies. The movie could have easily been a terrible pandering piece of

garbage.

What really impressed me was that despite being a fully CG film the movie actually looks like a Lego stop

motion fan film. It's a great experience and it feels like the story came right out of a child's imagination.

Chris Pratt is great as Emmet as the lovably hopeless protagonist by default that nobody has any

confidence in being remotely competent. Elizabeth Banks works well alongside him as Wildstyle, the

Vitruvius and Wildstyle

Page 21: All Otaku Issue9

action girl who seems to be a living

embodiment of every trope in the book.

Morgan Freeman could read the phone book

and it would sound good, and supporting

characters including Batman, who is as goofy

as Adam West but still quotes from the

Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Films and a

1980s Spaceman named Benny, who

resembles my first Minifig, round out an

excellent cast.

The real outstanding performance and the winner of the movie in my opinion is Will Ferrell as the

villainous Lord Business. Business is the embodiment of a great comedic villain and Ferrell together with

Liam Neeson as his sidekick "Bad cop" have the funniest lines in the movie and the climax which I will

not spoil, is where Ferrell gets to show off acting chops we've seen before but never like this.

I recommend that if you missed this in the cinema, Shame on you! Don't miss it on Video!

A+++

Gareth Urahara-sensei Duff is an English Teacher by trade and a cynic by genetics. He'll be back just as

soon as he gets that "Everything is awesome" song out of his head.

Released in 2012, this full colour

Korean manga (manhwa) opens with a setting reminiscent of an

old victorian era. With fair maidens in free flowing dresses, far

spanning forests, a horse & carriage, a well-polished

introductory narrative akin to any opening prophecy and a large

scaly, fear-instilling, black dragon – Black Haze is not what you

were expecting. The protagonist, draped in black robes and

equipped with a blade, who saves the maiden, is a high school

student.

With a slightly deceptive opening to the overall setting and

themes of the series, the fantasy, high school adventure story

has a smooth plot progression that is building up the “bigger

picture”. With each major character bit by bit the ongoing of

magic and the world beyond our reach.

One of the aspects in which the series is not lacking in any way

shape or form are the wealth of characters. From colourful and

animated to the monochrome and dull, the cast of the series is

impressive to say the least with people of importance designed

in full colour and the people who were just needed to populate

the background in a dull grey with no discernable features.

Having not reached a major turning point in the story, the swell

towards it is putting its dedicated readers on edge. This fantasy

dipped in mystery is worth the read.

Nise Koi!

Translated to Fake Love or False Love, this critically acclaimed manga gained popularity for its over

the top clichés and light hearted humor in a plot set around the heir to the local yakuza trying to

distance himself from the violence and thuggery. Things don't go as planned when the daughter of a

rival mafia gang cross paths with his family's yakuza. The only way to end the escalating battles is for

him to date the daughter of the rival gangsters. With a plot twist and love triangle not hesitating to

poke its head early on, the series is littered with comical scenes of the two trying to convince

everyone that they are a happy couple with over the top expressions of love.

In amongst the run of the mill comedy antics and drama that ensues, we are introduced to a variety

of diverse characters some archetypical of the manga genre and others unique to the manga itself.

Nonetheless the characters are well draw in a style that blends shonen and shojo together

seamlessly. Complimenting their unique physical appearances are their quirky yet loveable

personalities and expressive dialogue.

A very noticeable drawback to the entire series are the unoriginal plot points that can be both

predicted and made in comparison to other romantic shonen manga.

The serial which started its original in November of 2011 is still going strong will 12 volumes

available for purchase. Not surprisingly the manga’s success, in selling over a million copies, led to its

inevitable adaption into an anime with 20 episodes that has had the same success as its source

material.
