Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons has been a cornerstone of Bahrain business for years and a brand that people know and trust. We are very proud of our company and strive to keep this excellence in leadership, innovation, and in our service to the community.

We greatly appreciate the contribution of my brother Fareed Almoayyed, who shares his experience in his position as the Vice Chairman of the organization with the company. We also had the opportunity to felicitate several of our long serving employees at a recently held event. Their loyalty and dedication to the company continues to be a source of inspiration and pride for all of us. I am very happy to note that Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity has created different projects that helped to enhance the community at large.

We have been very busy with product launches, trainings, and inaugurations; and we couldn’t have done any of this without our people. As we grow from strength to strength, I’m glad to report that we strive to bring about employee satisfaction through a positive company culture and career enhancement programs. I hope that YKA will continue to support Bahraini growth as it enters into the future.

One of the distinguishing moments of my career was obtaining the contract with Komatsu of Japan, to be their exclusive agent in Bahrain.

How did your journey begin in Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA)? Can you tell us something about your early years in the company?

I completed my studies in England in 1975. Upon returning to Bahrain I worked in a garage and handled its management for eight years. From here I moved to join the family business. With hard work, I am proud to say that I have contributed to the business’ expansion. My responsibilities in the company increased after my father’s death in 1996.

How did you rise up from the challenges of those early years to become the Vice Chairman of YKA?

While working in the garage I was also responsible for Nissan sales. This was a period in the market when there was a difficulty in marketing “manual transmission” cars with other brands providing intense competition. Despite these challenges, we were able to achieve a significant amount of sales (500 cars per month)! This led to Nissan being one of the top brands in Bahrain. We were able to take advantage of government facilities for business owners and this has helped us to better refine the products we offer in the market.

Your father is considered as one of the giants in the Bahrain business field. How did you and your brother grow up having such an inspiring and exacting role model?

During the last years of his life, I was always at my father’s side. From observing him, how he works, and how he interacts with people, I was able to build my character and become who I am now. Among the many principles I admire is that he refused to take loans from banks in order to fund our business. According to him this will just double our efforts. That had been a challenge to us when we started the company but this principle contributed to YKA’s maintaining its stability and growth throughout the years.

Could you detail your involvement being the Vice Chairman for YKA? What have been some of your greatest achievements?

As Vice Chairman, my duties are to manage all of the company’s departments and branches along with my older brother Farouk. One of the distinguishing moments of my career was obtaining the contract with Komatsu of Japan, to be their exclusive agent in Bahrain.

What advice can you give to people who would want to be successful in their own fields?

It’s important to have ambition and determination. They have to learn to turn failure into an incentive to double their efforts and work harder. If they want success, they need to persevere.

Do you think that the business climate of Bahrain will give birth to more entrepreneurs who have the ability to shape the future economy of Bahrain? How so?

Like any free trade economy, opportunities are available to everyone in the Bahraini market. The fact that government facilities exist to invest in novice and well-established businesses is a big boost to the local market. The climate for entrepreneurship is already there, what is needed is competent people who have the ability to make use of the opportunities and who have faith that they can achieve what they seek to achieve through hard work

Revving Up the Automobile Industry

Y.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA), one of the largest business conglomerates in the Kingdom, has recently launched Rapid Auto Car Services to expand their automobile after sales support activities. Rapid is a multi-brand service center for passenger vehicles present at strategic locations throughout Bahrain.

Why is it important for the Kingdom to have a service like Rapid?

As the market is passing through a period of recession consequent to oil price drop and regional financial crisis, the spending power of consumers is slowly being diminished. The tremendous support from the management and the freedom to develop and expand business activities has given me the vigor to expand the business and strength to take up new challenges.

Managing adequate inventory for multi-franchise product lines to ensure optimum parts availability, maintaining customer satisfaction and thwarting price competition are just some of the challenges that I face on a daily basis. Taking up new projects and executing the same while the market trends are skeptical is another challenge that I experience. I always say “If you’re afraid to drown, you can’t learn swimming”. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA), is a leading player in the field of furniture and interior design in Bahrain, catering to residential, commercial and institutional sectors. Outstanding Employee AwardsY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) awarded 13 of its employees across

divisions for excellent performance. Mona Almoayyed, Managing Director at YKA, commented “As part of our vision of developing our staff, these awards enable us to show our appreciation and motivate others to accomplish the same.” Employees received certificates for their distinguished work.

Internship Program at YKAYKA conducted an internship program with eight

students from different universities as part of their On the Job Training. This was held over a period of two months with each student being placed in the division most relevant to their major degree program/course. Mona Almoayyed, Managing Director at YKA said, “We are proud to host the interns in our organization in order to stress on the importance of the employees’ skills and abilities in preparation for the next step of their careers.”

Recognizing Top Sales PerformersAs part of its objectives to enhance the skills and enrich the experience of the Nissan Sales team, YKA conducted its annual

Extended Warranty Refresher Program (organized by Nissan Gulf FZ Co. in tandem with GapCorp), at the Nissan Showroom in Sitra. The interactive nature of the session makes it one of the most anticipated annual events by the Nissan Sales team. To conclude the session, top sales performers are presented with awards and certificates recognizing their achievements in maximizing sales opportunities. This year’s top performer awards were presented to Yogesh Sachde, Mohammed Zumail and Hussain Alhawaj in the presence of colleagues, managers and company officials.

Following the success of the groundbreaking event of 2015, the 2016 Ford Bahrain Technician & Service Advisors Skills Competition was even more exciting and challenging. Employees contribute in Blood Donation CampaignMore than 180 employees from YKA, Ashrafs, and their associate companies, as

well as their respective family members, participated in the blood donation campaign held at Salmaniya Medical Center. Over the past eight years, YKA has been organizing regular blood donation campaigns as part of its Edmaj (CSR) program.

Lecture on Medical Complications of StressDr. Krishnakumar Rahman

gave a lecture on the medical complications of stress on personal and professional life as part of the YKA Edmaj Program, in cooperation with Aster Medical Center. More than 20 employees attended this lecture which was conducted at the YKA Head Office in Manama.

YKA Annual Staff Ghabga

YKA hosted an annual staff ghabga during the holy month of Ramadan at the Gulf Hotel Convention Center. Directors, members of senior management, managers and more than 150 employees from the YKA corporate office attended the event. All were treated to an entertaining evening in a festive atmosphere that included games, raffle prizes and much more. Long-serving employees of YKA were honored by the group management.

Long Serving Employees HonoredY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) has always put a premium on service and commitment. In order to solidify this thrust, YKA honored several employees for their long service in the company.

YKA held an event to honor its long serving employees which included managers from across the organization and staff from the corporate office. Staff who had completed 20 years or more of service with YKA were feted by the Group Chairman, Farouk Almoayyed; Managing Director, Mona Almoayyed; as well as by other directors and senior management who expressed their appreciation to the employees for their dedication and the hard work that they continue to offer to the company. We asked two outstanding employees to share their experiences in YKA and how they made it to the top. Both their stories are heartwarming and clearly shows what dedication to the job can do.

Peter A. GonsalvesSr. Sales Manager, Nissan Car Sales

Peter says “After 25 years I am still grateful and thankful to the YKA family who nurtured my career. When I first met Yousuf Khalil Almoayyed (Founder of YKA), he asked me to be a salesman at Ford Division, I did not hesitate. I jumped at that chance! After five years, I was promoted to Assistant Manager, I had many responsibilities

and commitments, but I always tried to perform my job to the best of my ability. No career path could have been as fulfilling or rewarding.

I cannot stress my thanks enough to the YKA family, who have taken me under their wing, and shaped and furthered my career. I am very happy that Mr. Yousuf, who started this noble tradition which is being followed by the succeeding generation in this grand enterprise. Since the start of YKA, it has always been a story of trust. We, the employees working hard for our company and the owners on their part, valuing our contributions. This is one of the best “win-win” situations ever”.

Kareem Al SanadiManager of Ford Service, Quick Lane Arad & Salmabad

Kareem relates “I joined YKA as a driver, locating new vehicles at Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), and fixing the traffic number plates of new vehicles. At that time, there were only seven Bahrainis who were working there, and I can’t help but wonder about my future and where I was heading. At that time, I didn’t know a lot of English, but I knew I had to take action if I wanted my life to change. I asked a fellow employee to go with me to meet our Manager and serve as my translator. I asked the Manager to set me up so I could study English. He asked me the reason for my request and I said “I want to be a manager and sit on your chair”. He laughed so hard he almost fell off his chair, but he gave in to my request.

That simple request turned into 20 years of hard work and commitment as I strived to become a better person, a leader, and a Manager. I asked my Manager to always discuss with me my weaknesses and how I could become better. I worked when others left, and I was always keeping my mind on new ideas and things so I could continuously improve. In 1992, I became a Reception Greeter, and was quickly promoted to Service Advisor. From there I met our Managing Director, Mona Almoayyed, to whom I expressed my willingness to be a future manager. I still recall what she said “Kareem, you are a born leader, so I will help you”. Because of the YKA family I am where I am now. I have always believed that when you have a goal and a willingness to follow through, nothing is impossible”

Giving Back to SocietyY.K. Almoayyed & Sons (YKA) has been fulfilling its social responsibility since its inception, and now it has a specialized team (Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity) that supports various charity sectors in Bahrain.

Support for Batelco’s Child Care houseA financial amount of BD1,000 was donated

by the Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity to the Batelco Child Care House to facilitate their needs. The donation took place at YKA head office in Manama, where Zahra Mohammed, Secretary of the Charity, handed the donation to Fatima Mannai, member of the Board of Directors at Batelco Child Care House.

Charity Training Course for Pronto organized

Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity organized a training course for people with visual impairment to be able to use a device called “Pronto”. The training course was given to eight candidates over the period of three weeks, teaching them how to communicate with various electronic devices, mobile phones, and sending messages

through Pronto. In addition, the Charity donated five such devices, while the Rotary Club donated three devices to the candidates.

Open Charity Football Championship The 6th Open Charity Football Championship organized by the Special

Olympics Bahrain in cooperation with the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation was a smashing success thanks in part to the support of Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity. The Charity made a donation to the event which was handed over to the Special Olympics administrator by Zahra Mohammed, Secretary of the Charity.

Support to Children CancerThe Charity made a donation of BD20,000 to the Department of Pathology at

the Salmaniya Medical Complex Hospital. Said amount was used to purchase a state of the art BD Flow Cytometer Machine. The BD Flow, which provides a laser based biophysical technology for cell counting and sorting needed in the early

detection of cancer cells, constitutes a big leap in the diagnosis of leukemia and the follow up treatment for adults and children with cancer, said Dr. Abdulrahman Ebrahim Fakhro, President of the Bahrain Cancer Society.

Bahrain Red Crescent Society Donation

Yousif & Aysha Almoayyed Charity made a BD4,000 donation to the Bahrain Red Crescent society during the Holy month of Ramadan. The donation took place at the YKA head office in Manama. Salwa Almoayyed, Head of the Charity handed the donation to Mohammed Ebrahim, Administrative Supervisor of Bahrain Red Crescent Society.
