RedCedarChamberMusicisdedicatedtotreatingyoutotheworld’sfinestchambermusicperformedinIowa’smostbeautifulfacilities.RedCedarisacatalystforstimulatingartisticcollaborationsandcreativityathomeandworldwide.ViolinistMieraKimandcellistCareyBostianareintheirfourthseasonasdirectorsandcoreensembleofRedCedarChamberMusic,whichwasfoundedin1997.

AbouttheConcert:RedCedaristryingsomethingnewwhileweareallstayingsafeathome!Luckily,husbandandwifeteamCareyandMieraareabletoself-isolateandcontinuetomakemusictogether.Evenso,theytookstockoftheresourcesavailabletothem,anddecidedtoenlisttheirtwosonsasguestartists.Youwilldelightinfamilymusicmakinginaprogramthatfeaturesawiderangeofmusicalstyles,fivedifferentcombinationsofinstruments,andeventherareaddition(forRedCedar)ofpiano!

RedCedar’sProgramming:Eachseason,RedCedarChamberMusicbringsnearly100enlighteningandentertainingperformancestoaudiencesinEasternIowaandbeyond.

•RuralOutreach:Enrichingsmall,ruralcommunitieswithlivechambermusic.ThesesignatureprogramsreceivenationalaccoladesandongoingmajorgrantsupportfromTheNationalEndowmentfortheArts,whichhasprovidedfundingforRuralOutreachfor14seasons.

MieraKim,violinist,istheExecutiveDirectorofRedCedarChamberMusic.ShegrewupinIowaCity,IAasastudentofDorisPreucilatthePreucilSchoolofMusic.ShefurtheredherstudieswithJaschaBrodskyattheCurtisInstituteofMusicandAllenOhmesattheUniversityofIowa.Sheisasought-afterclinicianandprivateteacher,andhaspreviouslyheldtitledchairswithOrchestraIowaandtheQuadCitySymphony.MierabeganperformingwithRCCMin2008.Sheplaysa1735NicóloGaglianoviolin.

CareyBostian,cellist,istheArtisticDirectorofRedCedarChamberMusic.HeisalsoconductoroftheIowaCityCommunityStringOrchestraandformerprincipalcellistofOrchestraIowa.Hehaspresentedthousandsofeducationalconcertsforstudentsofallages.CareyhasaDMAincelloperformancefromtheUniversityofIowaandanMFAinorchestraconducting.Heactivelypromotesnewmusicandfrequentlyperformsmusicoflocalandregionalcomposers.HebeganperformingwithRCCMin2006.CareyplaysaGiovitaRodianicellomadebefore1622.

OliverBostian,violinistandviolist,isa17-yearoldjunioratCityHighSchoolinIowaCity,whereheisconcertmasteroftheSymphonyOrchestra.Anexceedinglywell-roundedmusician,OliverstudiedpianowithLaureeChristmanfortenyears,isamemberofhishighschoolConcertChoirandMannerchor,andisalsoanaccomplishedviolist.Oliver’spastviolinteachersincludeMaryNeumannandDorisPreucil,andheiscurrentlyastudentofJoshuaPalazzoloatthePreucilSchoolofMusic(PSM).OliverhasalsostudiedchambermusicwithWilliamPreucilSr.forthelastfouryears,firstintheOne-Point-SixQuartet,andnowintheWindsorTrio,whichwasrecentlyawardedfirstprizeintheSedrelBriggsChamberMusicCompetitionatDrakeUniversity.Oliverwaschosenasconcertmasterofthe2019IowaAll-StateOrchestra,whereheperformedMahlerSymphonyNo.1underthedirectionofconductorDavidBarg.OliverisenrolledinthePSMVelayCertificateProgram,andplanstocontinuehismusicalstudiesincollegewithadoublemajorinmusicperformanceandeducation.

AdrianBostian,cellistandpianist,is15yearsoldandafreshmanatCityHighSchoolinIowaCity.Hebeganhismusicalstudiesonthepiano,andcontinuestostudywithLaureeChristman.Adrian’sfirstcelloteacherwasCareyBostian,andhenowstudieswithLauraShawatthePreucilSchoolofMusic.AdrianistheprincipalcellistoftheCityHighConcertOrchestra,andrecentlyearned4thchairinthe2019IowaAll-StateOrchestra.Hehasperformedinmasterclassesonboththepianoandcello,andstudiedchambermusicwithWilliamPreucilSr.Adrianisalsoanaccomplishedbasketballplayer.

MichaelKimberisaperformer,teacherandcomposer.HehasperformedaroundtheworldasviolistwithsuchesteemedgroupsastheAtlantaVirtuosiandtheKronosQuartet.From1979–1999heservedasviolaprofessorattheUniversityofKansas.Kimberhaswrittenmanyworksthathavebeenincludedinrepertoirelistsofsucheminentviolaartist-teachersasPatriciaMcCartyandDonaldMcInnes.TheSwissresearcherKonradEwald,inhisMusikfürBratschewrites“IcountmyselffortunatetohavebecomeacquaintedwiththemusicofAmericanviolistM.Kimber.”EminentPolishviolistMarcinMurawskihasrecor-dedsevenCDsofKimber’sviolamusicforActePréalable.In2015,VanishingWoodswaspremieredatCarnegieHall.KimberisRedCedar’scomposer-in-residence2019-2021.
