OPENING

I felt that the best way to open the piece would be without music as I feel this would set the scene, I wanted to use some diegetic sounds to open the video and maybe dialogue as I feel this will set the scene and introduce the main character well. I want to open the video with a medium-close up shot of the side of my main character’s face while he’s smoking a cigarette, and maybe a close up of his lips while smoking the cigarette and his eyes to show the tiredness and roughness. I also wanted him to be sat on a doorstep as the song lyrics begin with ‘to hear you knocking at my door’ and I therefore feel this would link well, I feel these images together show waiting and desperation which is the image I want to initially portray

NEXT SECTION…

I felt the next section of the video could involve the main character undergoing normal daily tasks but everything going wrong, showing the fact that everything in his life is going wrong. He then reacts to things going wrong by being aggressive and doing things such as smashing plates. I also want to have hidden images in the video and have lots of alcohol bottles and cigarette packets to show he has lost control of his life and has turned to desperate measures –

2ND VERSE

The second verse lyrics consist of ‘Cause you brought out the best of me, A part of me I'd never seen. You took my soul and wiped it clean, Our love was made for movie screens’. For the first section of this I envisaged my main character having writing all over different sections of their body emphasising the ‘good things’ she brought out in him (inspiration from Plan B – Deepest Shames) and for the next section about how their ‘love was made for movie screens’ I envisaged a shot of him alone in a cinema or alone watching a romantic film showing how he is now alone and their love is no longer worthy of movie screens, I also felt it would be powerful for him to pause the film and/or leave the room and have a shot showing him leaving the room but leaving a lasting shot of the screen of a couple that they once ‘had been’

MIDDLE SECTION

In the middle of the song there is a fast paced section which is instrumental and I feel this section shows panic and desperation, I feel this would be a great place to use some form of a panelling shot where the camera follow the main character running around searching for ‘someone like you’ which throughout the song he states he is trying to find. I also had an idea that he could get into a fight due to being drunk and at his lowest level or desperation. If I was to use the idea of my main character getting in a fight I would later use an establishing shot to show him coming out a hospital to show the amount of self destruction he is doing

ENDING

I feel that at the end of the video, as the music begins to get quiet, there could be a shot of him sellotaping a photograph back together that he would have torn apart at the beginning of the video and placing it on a gravestone of the person he has ‘lost’ as I feel this would complete the video well but also throughout the video I wouldn’t give away who or how he lost this person until the very end, completing the story and creating a message
