The Grapevine November 2019 All are Welcome Dear Clarkesville First Family, What is Gods will for our lives? Paul shares with us in 1 Thessalonians that there are three things we should do to be in Gods will through Christ Je- sus. We are to be joyful always, pray connually and give thanks in all circumstances. Is it truly possible to always be joyful? I believe the answer is yes. Keep in mind there is a difference be- tween being happy and being joyful. Happiness is a human emoon. There will be mes in our lives due to certain circumstances that we will not be happy. As believers in Christ there should not be any circum- stances that steal away our joy. This joy that Paul is speaking about is the joy that only Christ can give. This joy sustains us as we go through our journey. There is a Chrisan song entled, Im Trading My Sor- rows. One verse of the song says, Im trading my sorrows, Im trading my shame, Im laying it down for the joy of the Lord. This song describes what it means to be joyful always in Christ Jesus. Is it truly possible to pray connually? I believe the answer is yes. Our life should be about prayer. This does not mean that we have our heads bowed and eyes closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It means we need to have a prayerful atude. This atude is built upon acknowledging our dependence on God, realizing His presence within us and determining to obey Him fully. We will then find it natural to pray frequent, spontaneous, short prayers. A prayerful atude is not a substute for regular mes of prayer, but should be an outgrowth of those mes. Is it truly possible to give thanks in all circumstances? I believe the answer is yes. Trust me, I know life can be difficult. There are days when we want to throw up our hands and give up. As believers in Christ we know that God can and will meet our needs. Let me share two different notes from church members who shared with me recently what they were thankful for. I am thankful for this day and for being alive. I am thankful for my life and for waking up everyday and for having Christ in my life. From these two examples we can give thanks in all circumstances. During this Thanksgiving season, I want to encourage each of you to be joyful always, pray connually, and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus. On behalf of my family we are truly thankful for God allowing us to serve with each of you here at Clarkesville First United Methodist Church. From my family to your family, we want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! Pastor Keith, April, Meagan and Jordan Be joyful always, pray connually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

All are Welcome

Dear Clarkesville First Family, What is God’s will for our lives? Paul shares with us in 1 Thessalonians that there are three things we should do to be in God’s will through Christ Je-sus. We are to be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances. Is it truly possible to always be joyful? I believe the answer is yes. Keep in mind there is a difference be-tween being happy and being joyful. Happiness is a human emotion. There will be times in our lives due to certain circumstances that we will not be happy. As believers in Christ there should not be any circum-stances that steal away our joy. This joy that Paul is speaking about is the joy that only Christ can give. This joy sustains us as we go through our journey. There is a Christian song entitled, “I’m Trading My Sor-rows.” One verse of the song says, “I’m trading my sorrows, I’m trading my shame, I’m laying it down for the joy of the Lord.” This song describes what it means to be joyful always in Christ Jesus. Is it truly possible to pray continually? I believe the answer is yes. Our life should be about prayer. This does not mean that we have our heads bowed and eyes closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It means we need to have a prayerful attitude. This attitude is built upon acknowledging our dependence on God, realizing His presence within us and determining to obey Him fully. We will then find it natural to pray frequent, spontaneous, short prayers. A prayerful attitude is not a substitute for regular times of prayer, but should be an outgrowth of those times. “I am thankful for this day and for being alive.” “I am thankful for my life and for waking up everyday and for having Christ in my life.” From these two examples we can give thanks in all circumstances. During this Thanksgiving season, I want to encourage each of you to be joyful always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. On behalf of my family we are truly thankful for God allowing us to serve with each of you here at Clarkesville First United Methodist Church. Christmas Cantata “Have You Heard” by Joel Raney is a can-

tata that revisits the Christmas story us-

ing the Celtic style. There are familiar

Christmas carols, but also some familiar

Christmas texts set to beloved Irish and

Welsh folk songs. These, combined with

original music and scripture-based narra-

tion, complete a surprisingly refreshing re-telling of the

Christmas story. Join us at either the 8:30 or 11:00 wor-

ship services on December 8th for the presentation of this

wonderful cantata. A meal celebrating the chancel choir

will follow the 11:00 service in the Fellowship Hall.

“Rooted in faith, growing in love"

During the month of November our preschoolers will be learning about thankfulness. They will learn that Daniel was thankful when God sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions and Jonah was thankful when God sent a big fish to rescue him. They will learn that God revealed His Secret Rescue Plan (the Messiah) to Isaiah and we are all thankful for Jesus.

The Children's Ministry is going great this fall! We are still seeing upper 20’s in numbers and learn-ing more and more about Jesus, the Bible, global missions, and how to grow closer to God! We re-cently had our first parent workshop that covered the topic of setting boundaries with screens and technology for our kids. It was such a blessing to minister to our church families in that way. Trunk or Treat on October 31st was a great turn out! We are selling t-shirts as a fundraiser for our Children's Ministry. Sales will end November 7th. To order, please email [email protected] or come by the church office.

We will be having a fall festival for our kids on November 16th from 12-2PM. We are excited to continue ministering and learning this year!

Second Story Youth It's been an exciting Fall season for our youth group! Our youth

have been extremely active with a Fall Retreat, a visit to White Oak United Methodist

Campground for an old fashioned camp meeting experience, and fund raising for our

upcoming ski trip! Thanks so much for all the thoughts and prayers that have been

directed towards our youth. The Holy Spirit continues to move as God works to grow

us into Disciple makers.

We're excited for the upcoming holiday seasons - we will have a Thanksgiving meal,

Christmas parties, gift giving, a Progressive Dinner, and many more hours of fellow-

ship and study as we dive into the Word! We are thankful once again for all blessings our church family is sending our

way.

The Connection Service is growing. Through heart-felt worship we are enjoying Sunday worship with our church family. We would love to get more volunteers to help in the Connection on Sunday mornings. We are always looking to add members to our Worship Team, our Audio/Visual Team, Ushers, and Greeters. If you are interested in serving during the 9AM Service, even if you usually attend another service, please contact me so we can get you involved!

We continue to see Lu’s progress and hope-fully will have her back home soon. One more thing which sustains us is your constant prayers. We have seen many evidences of miracles. We count it a high privilege to be a part of this loving church. Keep praying. Love, Phil and Lu Habitat for Humanity thanks CFUMC for our donation to their building fund.
