WAPITI WIND July / August 2020
Greetings to all,
Welcome back to the Lodge!
For those of you who are not aware, the Lodge is now open for business almost as usual. At the House Committee meeting on June 9th the membership di-rected the Lodge Officers to re-open the Lodge to near pre-closure status. The reopening process will be completed by July 1st.
During the closure there was a lot of work being per-formed in the Lodge. Our Banquet/Bar Manager, Kathy Wright, was on hand every day to direct the workers efforts and to coordi-nate outside vendors that were being called in to repair, update and service nearly every system in the Lodge as well as having the Bar and Social quarters ready to go when we reopened. Kathy also conceived the idea to put a donation fund in place to help the “Tipped Wait Staff” who had been furloughed. Kathy, from all of us THANK YOU for all that you have done and continue to do.
Our Kitchen Manager Kevin, along with Sean, Mary, Sandy, Peg-gy and many of the Bar Staff, and Food Servers put in countless hours cleaning, painting and repairing. THANK YOU to you all!
Tiler Tom Bradley and Trustee Bob Volk were on hand to replace and reorganize the shelving in the Kitchen and storage areas. A job well done, THANK YOU!
To the Girls in the Office Karen, Carolyn and Elizabeth THANK YOU! Through your vigilance the administrative side of the Lodge barely skipped a beat.
I am writing this in the middle of June to meet the printers’ dead-line so we are still well entrenched in the COVID-19 issues. The calendars include the months of July and August and are subject to change as the COVID-19 situation changes.
As you looked at the June calendar you saw that it was an event filled month. July and August will be less hectic than June.
The Staff will continue to practice table sanitation guidelines as mandated by the Governor.
Bingo will remain canceled until further notice.
Queen of Hearts, Spaghetti and Dancing on Monday nights are back, along with Karaoke on Thursday nights.
The Clubs are welcome back.
Entertainment will resume on Friday nights per the summer schedule. Please see the calendar for who is playing.
Starting in July, the Lodge should be almost back to normal.
The 4th of July Celebration has been canceled due to the Sanita-tion and serving mandates put in place by the Governor. Until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted we cannot allow outside food, i.e., Pot Luck to be brought into the Lodge.
On August 1st the Stick’em Swim for the Kid’s will take place at the Aquatic Center, Noon to 4pm.
August 16th, the 1st Lady’s Ice Cream Social will take place from Noon to 4pm.
August 29th, The Elkettes Mexican Fiesta will take place. Cock-tails at 5pm dinner at 6pm. Tickets are available in the Office. OLE’.
As you can see, we have found our stride and are moving forward now at a more normal pace.
I would caution you all to be aware your own health concerns and be vigilant as to when you should return to the Lodge. Let your best judgment be your guide.
Go to our website www.elks2399.com regularly to get the latest information about what is taking place in the Lodge.
Stay safe and stay well.
Together we will get things done.
Fraternally, Bill Horton Exalted Ruler

Greetings,
As we adjust to our new "normal" we have much to celebrate. We were able to have our Awards Banquet and officially end our 2019-2020 year. It was a great night for the Elkettes. Elkette of the year is our beloved Nita Gervais, she has been the Elkettes Chaplain since 2012. Our Outstanding Elkette(s) of the Year award
went to Mae Pine and Karen Oliver, they have been dedicated pie sellers and can be seen running every bake sale the Elkettes have. Lee Rumble, Elkette Becky Rumble’s husband, is Honor-ary Elkette of the Year. We are thankful for Lee’s willingness to do the heavy lifting for us, climb ladders, and do this all with a smile. Exalted Ruler (now PER, also an Elkette) Debbie Herd honored three of our Elkettes. Past Elkette President Eva D. Fox was awarded the Grand Exalted Rulers Outstanding Service Commendation, Exalted Rulers Special Recognition, and an award in recognition of her dedicated service and the Elkette President and the reigning Pie Queen. Lynn Hall was awarded the Tall Elk in recognition of her dedication and positive attitude in all she does for the lodge. Elk of the Year went to our Treas-urer, The First Lady Debbie Horton, her willingness to take on any jobs thrown at her with efficiency, and a positive attitude shows in all she does.
We are still looking for someone to chair Kids Turn to Shop and The Crazy Auction. You will have unwavering support and get to meet some great people. If you are willing to take on one of these events please let me know.
We are holding our Fiesta Dinner Dance Saturday, August 29, cocktails start at 5 pm. The cost is $16 per person, the tickets are available at the office, live entertainment will be Fritz. We will have a 50/25/25 drawing.
We will begin selling 52 Raffle tickets in September. Remem-ber, we only have 300 tickets to sell. These tickets are only available to Elks, spouses of Elks, and widows of Elks. Just ask any Elkette, we will gladly sell you a ticket.
Our next meeting is on September 9, 2020, at 7 pm. I look for-ward to seeing everyone.

The Elkettes assembled and delivered Easter baskets to the Havasu Nursing Center. In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the baskets were disinfected and assembled wearing gloves and face masks. We were met at the door and loaded the baskets onto a cart to take inside. They were handed out Easter morning to 55 inpatients and two nurs-ing stations. I hope this finds everyone staying healthy. “Social distancing” is a term that we were not familiar with until the last couple of months. Now it’s every-where and our lives are going in different directions. Who ever thought we would be going to the bank
wearing face masks and asking for money? Lol
We now have a new Wagon Master, Janet Sims, and haven’t been able to meet since she was elected. We are hoping this will happen sometime this summer. As soon as we get the word that can happen, we will let you know. Normally we are dark the months of June, July and August, but this time in our lives is anything, but normal.
The deadline for dues is March 31st. However, due to Covid-19, many have not been able to pay their dues. Our Standing Rules state “Dues will be considered delinquent if not paid by June 30th”. The Lodge Office is now open so you can drop off your dues of $20. If paying by check make payable to Elks Lodge #2399 with “Vagabonds Dues” in the memo section. If your dues are not paid June 30th, you will not be able to attend a meeting or campout. We don’t want you to miss out on our fun.
Our next campout will be in Williams September 16th through the 19th at the Railside RV Ranch. This will be hosted by Don
& Sue Underwood and Bill & Debbie Horton. If you have not made your reservations for this, they may be full. If so, ask to be put on the waiting list. They try very hard to accommodate our group.
Wickenburg was originally scheduled for May and that was can-celled. It has now been rescheduled for October 15th through the 17th. That will be hosted by Bob & Barb Volk and Rod & Deb-bie Herd.
November brings a trip to Death Valley November 5th through the 8th. This will be hosted by Steve & Sue Miller and Bruce & Arvella Joy. More information will be provided on this trip as it gets closer.
Stay healthy and I look forward to seeing some happy faces now that our Lodge is once again open. To get the latest Lodge news, updates, current food menus and more, visit the lodge website at elks2399.com.

VAGABONDS CLUB NEWS
YACHT CLUB NEWS As I write this newsletter, we're coming up on our first meeting (June 20th) since February due to the virus and closing of the lodge. We've experienced a champagne brunch on July 12th under rules and regulations. Details in next news-letter.
It is sad to let you know that we've lost 2 charter members in May...Alex Cornett and Ray Blazek. They will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Georgia Cornett and Linda Duffy and their families.
Lynne Hall, our secretary, has continued to stimulate our boating members with twice a week boating. Please watch your emails for day & time as it's not the same day every week. We will also include boating lunch at Topock, Special event at 3 Dunes and are look-ing into Havasu Springs. Please help her out with your ideas and your support.
Let's play this summer in and on the lake.
Our monthly yacht club meetings are the 3rd Saturday of every month except December. Meetings start at 2pm at the Lodge. Come early to socialize and meet new friends.

General Information:
Our Lodge encourages Members to bring guests to the Lodge and they are always welcome. However, as per our By-Laws, some guide-lines must be adhered to. A “guest” is a relative, friend or neighbor known to you and invited by you. These guests must be signed in. You, as the member, must stay with your guest(s). If you leave the Lodge, your guest(s) must go as well. Keep in mind that the Lodge gets very busy at times so we ask that you keep the number of guests limited to the number of seats at a table. Please remember guests may only be signed in three times before they can no longer enter the Lodge. We encourage them to become members so that they can enjoy our Lodge whenever they want to.
