Ragdoll cats are well known and well-loved for their affectionate nature, beautiful appearance, and good health, thus, their popularity among cat lovers. But as with all pets, it is also important to secure cat insurance for Ragdolls as protection against substantial financial expenses in case of injuries and illnesses suffered by these fabulous felines during their lifetime.

One of the best things about Ragdolls is their colours. With their distinct colorpoint coats – pale bodies with relatively darker faces, ears, and tail – in several colours like seal (grey/brown), chocolate (dark brown), blue and lilac, ragdolls attract more than their fair share of attention. Their intense blue eyes add to their already strong appeal.

All Ragdolls are born with white coats but as they grow older, their colours and point colorations become more pronounced; the changes can be observed when the kittens become 10 days old. Young cats have the most pronounced contrasts between their body colour and their points although every Ragdoll have very soft medium to long hair, which owners love to stroke.

Ragdolls are bigger and heavier than most cat breeds; many are, in fact, 2-3 times larger! Males weigh an average of 7-10 kilos while females are lighter at 4-6 kilos. No matter the age and weight, however, responsible owners must secure cat insurance for their Ragdolls for the abovementioned reason.

The breed was developed by Ann baker in California. Many of Baker’s theories about the origins of the breed – it was subjected to federal genetic experimentation, it was placed on Earth by aliens, and it was a hybrid of skunks and cats – were met with skepticism. Today, Ragdolls are selectively bred for their large size, attractive pointed coloration, and gentle demeanour – all the hallmarks of a great feline pet that insurance companies will have no hesitation in providing pet insurance coverage.

Ragdolls are certainly one of the most affectionate, most docile and most relaxed in temperament among all car breeds. Even children can easily handle Ragdolls with their gentle yet intelligent nature so much so that parents with kids in the house prefer the breed to other breeds, say, Siamese. Such docility is also one of the reasons why getting cat insurance for Ragdolls is easier – the insurance company knows that the breed can do little to no harm to humans.

Again, pet insurance is a must for Ragdolls because of the eventuality of health issues. According to a Swedish insurance research, the breed has one of the lowest survival rates among all cat breeds with the average lifespan being 10 years. The breed can also be easily injured with incorrect handling because of the cats’ propensity to go limp when being picked up.
