Build a Profile

A profile page is your own part of the internet.

You usually have a “wall” to write things on.

(Other people can write on it too).

You can upload pictures.

You can write all about yourself…

The things you like… the things you don’t like.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS DO YOU NEED TO TAKE?


Instant Messaging

Instant messages allow you to type on your computer, and whatever your write comes up on your friend’s

screen - immediately!

Instant messages are private conversations.

They are not posted to your profile page.

You can choose who to “Chat” to.



Blogs

“Blog” is short for “Web - Log”

Blogging is your chance to write your

opinions, thoughts, and ideas online.

This usually happens on your profile wall.



Add “Friends”

When you build a profile you can change your settings to only allow some people to view your information.

You can add people you know…

You can add people you don’t know…

You can block people you don’t want to view

your pages.



Join Groups

One of the ideas with social networking is that you find people who like and dislike the same things as you.

Groups are set up for you to join. Eg. celebrities, music, film, tv, computer games etc

Then you can share your ideas and opinions about them.

And meet new people…



Post Links

On your profile page you can post a “link” to another website or page.

So that other people can look at something you have found.



Upload Pictures

You can upload digital pictures and videos to your profile.
