Why Does Our Parish Need Your Gift?

None of us likes to give a gift that is not needed.
That is why we spend many hours shopping for just
the perfect gift. It is understandable that you might
question, “Does the parish need my gift? Does my
weekly financial contribution make a difference?”
Here are some of the ways your gift is needed and
does make a difference.

Your contributions to Emmaus help:

Pay staff salaries so that clergy can comfort those
who need to feel Jesus in their lives at this time.
Pay staff to coordinate all the educational and
sacramental ministries.
Pay the utility bills that keep the lights on and the
rooms warm (or cool!) for all those who gather
here for prayer, education or social ministry. Last
month those utility bills amounted to $11,634.
Purchase the many supplies that are needed for
our liturgies and sacraments, including hosts,
wine, candles, prayer books and hymnals.
Landscape our grounds and maintain our facilities,
so that we are always safe and welcoming.

WEEKLY STEWARDSHIP REPORT
September 23, 2018
palabras "sacer" = sagrado y "facere" = hacer. En otras
palabras, hacemos nuestras vidas santas compartiendo
nuestros dones en el servicio a Dios.

Candle Ministry: Our church candles are very popular
and need to be replenished several times a week. Do
you have one hour in your week? Be your own boss
replacing the empty candles with new ones. The
beauty of this ministry is you can choose any hour
(8AM to 8PM) on day you want! Our coordinator
will provide a quick training and then you are on
your own with your chosen schedule.
SEED Gift Card Volunteers Needed! We need two
more volunteers to complete our SEED Gift Card
Team to then have every weekend Mass covered.
This ministry is 15 minutes before Mass and about 25
minutes after. SEED gift cards make over $30,000 for
our parish each year! Please contact 512.261.8500 or
[email protected]. Thank you!
PARISH VOLUNTEER ENTREPRENEURS
ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP REPORT

“Experience the Welcoming Love of God”

The staff has chosen these words to define their goal this year to help others
experience God’s love through deeper relations, more effective
communications and welcoming. After six months of meeting and studying
the modules of the Amazing Parish program, exploring topics such as the
Sunday experience, hospitality, music, liturgy, relationships and working
styles, they chose this to be their focus. They are now charged with
supporting this theme throughout their ministries. So how does this happen
and how, as parishioners, do we join them in this endeavor?

In the last few weeks, this theme seems to be even timelier given the climate
in the Catholic Church. So many of us are feeling angry, hurt and
disillusioned. Experiencing the Welcoming Love of God does not seem attainable in this environment. But it
can be. Our relationship with God is not about a church building, clergy or a diocese. It is personal. It is a
private prayer in adoration, the smile of a friend you consoled, a hand of welcome and the gratitude of
someone less fortunate. We can experience the Welcoming Love of God by reaching out to others who need
our comfort and strength. The innocent children of this parish receive His love in our classrooms and the
elderly in nursing facilities receive His love through the time and attention of Eucharistic Ministers. We can
be the conduit of His love by both giving and receiving in our daily good works.

It would be easy to turn our backs on a church and leaders that have caused such pain and suffering, but do
we also want to turn away from a God that loves us unconditionally? He is the true source of our Catholic
faith and He will sustain that faith during our most difficult times.

The many ministries and outreach programs of this parish can help us experience this Welcoming Love. They
offer hope, friendship and support, for ourselves and each other. Whether we volunteer as a catechist, hand
out food for Mobile Loaves and Fishes or serve at Mass we cannot help but experience His Love. But we
need to take that step. It cannot happen without us. Putting aside our hurt, we can provide the open door for
others to step in with us. One by one we can offer healing
and hope by helping one another. Let us open our heart to
this and not let the misdeeds of others deny us the joy of
His open arms and welcoming love.
What does the Welcoming Love of God
look like at Emmaus? It looks like all of us!
September 23, 2018

the clinic, clients complete an application and may briefly meet with a volunteer attorney to discuss their
legal problem. Applications are later reviewed by Legal Aid to determine the eligibility for representation.

SILENT AUCTION WITH ALL THINGS RED and
PIOUS PICTIONARY These are the fun
activities at the October 6, 2018 meeting of the
Austin Deaneries Council of Catholic Women, St.
Theresa Church, 4311 Small Drive in Austin.
Auctions are always fun, and this year’s theme is
“Red in a Box”. Donated items item should be red,
be in an open box (for viewing), be new, and have
a minimum value of $15. Come see how items
respond to this theme; perhaps begin your
Christmas shopping early, or walk away with a
new treasure. (Cash or check only.) Pious
Pictionary uses Biblical themes, and the drawings
and guesses can be hilarious. The meeting begins
with Mass at 9:00 AM and continues in the
adjoining Family Center until conclusion around
12:30 PM. Complementary brunch is included
and no preregistration is required. Bring a friend
and come meet other ladies from parishes in the
Austin area. Questions? Contact President Janet
