Because they root through hedges for food and make a grunting noise like a pig
ABOUT HEDGEHOGS
They are nocturnal and come out at night.
They sleep in a nest under bushes. There are 15 species of
hedgehogs. There may be up to 500 fleas on a
hedgehog.
MORE FACTS ABOUT HEDGEHOGS
Hedgehogs have between 1 and 11 babies at a time and soon become covered in prickles.
They only stay with their mum for 6 weeks.
Including the tail, a hedgehog is 11 inches long.
They hibernate in winter.
WHY DO THEY HAVE SPINES?
• They have 5000 spines
• Each spine lasts for a year
• When they sense danger they roll into a ball because of a special muscle in their bodies.
