1. What is Botox® ?

Botox®  is the trade name of a drug based on aneurotoxin protein called botulinum toxin. It is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In the UK the brands of botulinum toxin available areVistabel, Azzalure & Dysport. They all work in the same way, which is by blocking the local release of a neurotransmitter

thus preventing localised muscle contraction. Vistabel & Azzalure are currently the only productslicensed for treating frown lines, however they can all be used safely by an expert.

 2. Why using Botox® ?

Botox® temporarily relaxes muscles & stops localised sweat gland activity. It is used in medicine to treatmany conditions where there is involuntary muscle contraction such as twitches, and some migraines. The topaesthetics use for Botox® is to minimize the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles.

Non-verbal communication is so important & your expression communicates a lot, either intentionally or not.The appearance of deep frown lines can give a slightly aged & unfriendly appearance, but this could besimply due to habits or straining to read a computer screen. Both will stimulate the frown muscles & createdeeper facial lines. The objective with non-surgical treatment is never eradication of movement but simply areduction in the depth of wrinkles forming.

3. How is it done ?

Choose the treatment area(s). Typically there are 3 areasthat are treated for appearance: i) The vertical line(s)forming between the eyebrows also known as the frownlines. ii) The horizontal lines forming above the eyebrowsalso known as the forehead expression lines or worrylines. iii) The small lines that form at the edges of the eyes

when making a true smile also called the smile lines.

Have a consultation to see if this is something that issuitable for you, all good clinics will take photos toshow you where the treatment could be applied, agreat solution is video analysis, for example we takea video clip of different expressions & this allows us toshow where the key areas to target would be & any

asymmetries that need to be addressed.

Review - all good professionals will place a

standardised dose to begin with & then top- up in 2weeks.

4. What to expect ?

You won’t notice anything immediately but after 2-5 days you will gradually begin to noticelessened muscle movement, the maximum result will be after 2 weeks & that is when you should beprofessionally reviewed, and a top-up applied if necessary. A good professional always errs on

the side of slight under correction. When done by an expert in a precise managed way, there arereally no problems. Typically you can expect the results to last for 4-6months & it will manifest as aslow return to full movement / perspiration.

5. F.A.Q

What are the risks?

Botox® is a very safe treatment, it is used in many sites of the body & across a multitude of age groups. The risks arelargely related to the site of injection. This means small red spots & possible small bruises which typically wouldn’t last morethan 24-48hrs. We use a small amount of foundation immediately afterwards so it is completely unnoticeable, it is possibleto go straight back to work unnoticed. In extremely rare cases eyelid ptosis can occur (this is a slight drop of the eyelid),this is temporary, rare and reversible using special eye drops. It is important to complete a medical history & to rule out

some medical conditions which are contraindicated.

Who can provide it legally?

Legal providers of Botox® injections are doctors, surgeons, dentists, hygienists & registered general nurses. All providersshould have full medical indemnity and should be able to provide examples of before & after treatments & testimonials.

How much does it cost?

Typical prices range from £150 - £500 depending on the number of sites being treated.

7. Complimentary Skin treatments: Active Botanical Peels

What is the treatment? Plant based active botanicals are placed onto the superficial skin surface, they penetrate the skinto stimulate cellular turnover & exfoliation of the superficial skin layer. It is great for treating superficial fine lines & wrinkles,as the development of fresh healthy skin is stimulated. Normally a course of 4 - 6 peels 4 weeks apart is consideredoptimal for measurable improvements in skin tone, appearance & smoothness. This is a lunchtime treatment, as there is no downtime with this treatment, the skin simply appears a little red for a few days,

this is nothing which concealer wouldn’t manage, and there may be a small amount of proliferation as the skin surfaceremodels.

How long does it take? 45 minutes per session.

What makes Alkali different? At Alkali we use only proven & effective botanical peels - we use the Epionce range which isproven in studies against prescription strength medicines

What guarantees do we offer? At Alkali we guarantee that there will be a demonstrable improvement in your skin’sappearance after a course of 5 peels.

Why are we the number one choice for this? We provide peels as an adjunct to our non-surgical treatments, this meansthe combined use can yield measurable improvements.

8. Complimentary skin treatment : Medical Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion ? This is the removal of the the surface layers of skin by using tiny Corundum crystals that areshot onto the skin using a small hand piece. At the same time the underlying skin is stimulated by a vacuum pressure withinthe hand piece and this ensures fresh oxygen & nutrients are taken to the skin cells. This ensures a brighter smoother moreyouthful appearance on the skins surface as well as stimulates collagen and Elastin production deeper within the skin

layers. This treatment is a lunch time treatment and your skin may only be slightly red for up to an hour post treatment.Mineral make up is offered to every client post treatment and this ensures a complete cover up of any redness and allowsthe skin to breath and heal.

How long does one treatment take ? 40min

What makes Alkali different? We do Medical Microdermabrasion which uses a higher quality crystal that ensures the bestpossible treatments results. We have an option to add a Botanical Booster mask that soaks deep into the treated skin and

has a high cooling & firming effect & whilst this is on the skin our skin therapist will perform a deeply relaxing scalpmassage. This will also helps to reduce post treatment irritation and redness.

After 5 treatments ofMicrodermabrasion you should be able to see a visible improvement in certain skin condition such as Acne, Blackheads, dry skin patches, Oily patches and the general appearance of the skin. Improvements can be seen before but onaverage 5 treatments are advised. The treatments should be spaced 2 weeks apart for the best results.

We combine our treatments with other non surgical procedures in order to gain the best possibleresults for our clients. We offer complimentary skin assessments and advice on treatment to have.
