The case for database consolidation

Reduced complexity, improved standardisation

Reduced data centre footprint

Reduced OpEx, Reduced CapEx, reduced TCO

Maximize server to database ratio, platform utilisation, instance density

Cloud ecosystem DBaaS, metering, charge back and showback

Improved reliability, improved resource management, improved user experience

Well defined, documented and audited database landscape

Private, public and hybrid cloud ecosystem with management from Enterprise Manager 12c – Cloud Control

Oracle 12c - Multitenant

Traditionally, IT organizations have deployed individual databases and applications onto dedicated server infrastructure and results in underutilisation of infrastructure and increased administrative overhead.

Oracle Database 12c offers significant advantages for consolidating application workload. Benefits include :

• Simplified Management – Manage many databases as one

• Streamlined Provisioning and patching

• Consolidation without application changes

Oracle engineered systems are designed to support maximum consolidation densities and provide extreme performance a superior TCO.

Run Oracle on Oracle with Oracle Exadata X4-2 database machine and Oracle Supercluster T5-8

Oracle Supercluster – When 12c database migration is not an option

Oracle Supercluster compute nodes are built on servers utilising the latest T5 and M6 SPARC series processors from Oracle.

Combine Supercluster and Solaris 11 operating system to provide Solaris Zones and Legacy Containers to enable high density consolidation when Oracle 12c database migration is not a viable option.

Owners of aging SPARC estates hosted on end of life equipment may not afford the time to upgrade to Oracle 12c in a suitable timescale. Physical to virtual software tools (P2V) embedded in Solaris 11 enabled lift and shift migration to Supercluster.

By utilizing P2V and Solaris Legacy containers estate owners can preserve certified versions of applications, operating systems and database required for regulatory compliance and provide safe harbour for systems running on end of life equipment. The equipment can be retired, migrated to Supercluster and then migrated to 12c at a later date once compliance in 12c database has been verified.

HCL Workload Discovery Workbench – Right sizing

• Install HCL workload discovery workbench to uncover the true workload in your current estate

• Right-size new target landscape• Model and manage workload scenarios in

the target estate• Use predictive analysis and modelling to

assist project managers with migration strategy

• Visualise performance and future state

• Provide point of reference for SQL timing so migrated users never have to tolerate degradation in performance

• Post migration continuous improvement of the database estate

• Continuous performance improvement workbench to enable the power of performance toolkits such as Method-R

HCL Agile Data Platform and Database Virtualization

• Maximize agility and availability of application environments

• Enable self service provisioning of non-prod database and application environments

• Speed up development and testing cycles by up to 15x

• Provision each development team with their own development environment with near zero increment in storage footprint for each additional environment

• Protect information assets• Reduce storage and infrastructure

costs with 20x consolidation
