Leatherback Sea Turtle
Migrating Journey
By Alif
Leatherback sea turtles migrate to
California
when they are babies
• Leatherback sea turtles migrate from the East coast
of Australia to the Southeast coast of California.
They have to go up for air, otherwise they will
drown! They are the biggest turtles in the world.
When they reach Californian they are already big
and they will eat California jellyfishes. Then they
will mate and go back to where they hatched to lay
their own eggs - only the female will go back to land
to lay eggs. The male never leaves the ocean.
How Do They Migrate?
• Leatherback sea turtles migrate
through moving ocean currents, a
current is like a river under water.
They can lead to dangerous
whirlpools. A whirlpool is like a
tornado under water that sucks
everything in range down!
Why Are They Called Leatherback
Sea Turtle?
Leatherback Sea Turtles have soft
shells like leather - that is why
they are called Leatherback Sea
Turtle.
