•Born in 1908

•Birth place Paris, France

•Son of a retired navy captain

•In 1918, Yves Tanguy briefly joined the merchant navy before being drafted into the Army

•At the end of his military service in 1922, he returned to Paris

•Worked various jobs but did not like any of them

•In 1922, he saw a painting by Giorgio de Chirico

•He was so impressed and wanted to become a painter him self

•in 1925 joined the Surrealist group

•André Breton helped him achieve his goals

•Tanguy quickly began to develop his own unique painting style, giving his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1927

•André Breton gave Tanguy a contract to paint 12 pieces a year

•When World War II started he moved to New York with his wife

•From 1920 to 1955 (the year he died) he had made more then 100 paintings.
