As you are aware, the current treasurer of our PTFA has taken the decision to stand down at the end of this academic year. We are therefore looking for someone who could take on the very important role as a maer of urgency. It would be helpful if the volunteer has some finance or accountancy training. I am asking parents to seriously consider taking on this posion to support Henry Cavendish, not least that without a treasurer in post we cannot run any further PTFA events.... Please don’t hesitate to ask quesons, if you need any further informaon email the PTFA Play Dates There have been a few issues recently when pupils have been confused in regard to who is collecng them and in parcular concerning play dates. It is our duty to make sure that your child is safe and is going home with the correct adult. We would ask that parents complete a very simple form – see below. These can be collected from the school office or is available on the school website to download. (Parents/Forms). Class Assemblies Yesterday, Class 6W brightened our morning with their theatrical talent, wiy jokes and mul-lingual music. Of course the thought of a final Henry Cavendish class assembly brought tears to the eyes of teachers and parents alike. Their final assembly was well wrien, well rehearsed and -of course- brilliantly performed. Thank you to Miss Watkins, Mr. S, Mrs Gibbs-Singh and 6W! Dino Day Year 1's had the most fabulous 'Dino Day' in relation to their topic 'Walk the Dinosaur', on Friday. The Balham children travelled to the Streatham site, which was a lovely opportunity for all the children to meet and have fun together. Not only did they get to dress up like dinosaurs, they made their very own diplodocuses out of paper plates, they were visited by a baby T-rex and a 6 year old T-rex and learnt lots of interesting facts AND they got to travel in a time machine to experience life in the past! Each class had a wonderful day filled with excitement and fun. Have a look below at some of the amazing photos that were taken on the day. A huge thank you to the 'Education Group' company for a fabulous day. The Year 1 team.

School Swimathon All of KS2 should have received a school swimathon chart this week. This is an incentive to get children swimming both in and out of school. The chart gives the children the chance to record their swimming activity for the Spring term and they should be handed back to Miss Palmer or class teachers on Friday 23rd March. Children who return their completed charts will receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate for their dedication. The school swimathon is an amazing incentive that we sign up to every year, which challenges the children to improve their distance swimming from the beginning to the end of the spring term. For taking part in this, every child will receive a swimming hat and badge to take home. Let's get swimming! Poster Competition The 2018 Eco team would like to announce that there will be a poster competition for a new Eco poster. These posters will be put around the school to remind staff and students about some of the little things we can do to make a big difference.

What to include:

Can you include our Eco slogan?

Save it, grow it, move it. We don’t want to lose it!

Can you include the Global Goals? Which ones can we help to achieve and how?

Article 29 from the UNCRC: We all have the right to learn about how to protect the environment.

Ask your class Eco rep if you need some ideas. Get your posters to your class Eco Rep by Friday 2nd February.

PTFA News

Comedy night CONFIRMED – 7th March Great news we have a team to organise the event! Please contact the PTFA if you or your business would like to donate a raffle prize. .

Family Fun Day – Saturday 24th March

Our Family Fun Day will be held at the Streatham site on Saturday 24th March 12-3pm for food, drink, egg hunt and lots of entertainment. If you have an idea for a stall you would like to run please do get in touch.

PTFA Treasurer We urgently need a new treasurer. Our current treasurer will be standing down at the end of this academic year and PTFA activities will not be able to continue unless a new Treasurer is found. The role involves maintaining a record of all expenditure, managing the bank account, issuing cheques and payments, managing cash at events and suits someone with an accounting or book keeping background. If you are interested please let us know.

Feeling lucky in 2018? Lucky Numbers is a monthly prize draw, where half the total is given out as a prize to the Lucky Number winner and half the money goes to the PTFA. From just £1 per month you are in with a chance to win up to £50. The more people that enter, the higher the prize money will be – we currently have over 60 numbers but would love more. Contact Helen Taylor to sign up.

Virtual World We have been very lucky at Henry Cavendish to have had everyone experience Virtual Reality! We had VR headsets on loan over the last two weeks, and it has been a huge hit. Each class has had an opportunity to explore different cities, some of the Seven World Wonders and even a shark attack! The children were thrilled to have a go and lots particularly enjoyed the shark experience. "The sharks were my favourite experience because they swim around you and you get to look all around you in the ocean", said Kristupas. Amy said that she particularly enjoyed the Pyramids of Giza because she could see the hieroglyphics. It was wonderful to see the children share and discuss their experiences, they have thoroughly enjoyed themselves (and the staff has too!).

Energy Kidz – Half Term Bookings Energy Kidz will be running “Mesmerising Magical Adventure” at Ravenstone Primary School in Balham over February Half Term. Their fun packed holiday clubs provide fantastic activities for children and reliable childcare for working parents. You can secure your place now with a 10% Early Bird Booking Discount Offer. Book using the code EBFEB18-4 via their website. Looking for a Parent Volunteer Every Thursday at Henry Cavendish Streatham we run an ESOL class for adults who need to develop their spoken English. To support these families we provide a crèche within the school. We are looking for a volunteer to support the crèche between 9am to 11am each week alongside a member of staff. You will need to be available every Thursday in term time. If you have young children, you can bring these along. Please contact the school office if you are interested in offering your support.
