Algebra Problem Sheet: Revision
Section A: Croft and Davison
Initially you should attempt Croft and Davison; Chapter 5, Basic algebra, end of Chapterexercise, pp 127-128. Also attempt end of Block exercises for Chapter 7, Block 2, Solving
quadratic equations (p 220), and Block 3, Factorising polynomial expressions (p 228). You
should then make sure you can do all the problems below, because we assume that you can
transpose equations and are competent at other aspects of basic algebra, can handle indices
(powers) and surds, and can solve quadratic equations.
You should not use your calculator for any of these problems.

All the problems featured on this sheet except B.12., B.22. and B.24. have either been taken
or adapted from questions generated by MathXL. If you feel you need more practice with
these topics, or any others that come up over the year, the study plan in MathXL generates
questions randomly on all the mathematical topics covered in this module. You can practise
as many questions as you require to feel confident.
(Question B.12. (a), (b), (e), (g) and B.24. were k R from the
Higher Education Academy Maths, Stats & OR network. B.12. (c), (d) and (f) were taken or
adapted fromhttp://www.mathsrevision.net/gcse/pages.php?page=6)
