Objective: •To graph solution sets of inequalities containing absolute values
Frameworks: 10.P.1, 10.P.7
One winter night,
the temperatures remained within 3⁰ of 0⁰ Fahrenheit.
If x represents the temperature in ⁰ F at any time that night, then these temperature conditions can be described by the inequality |x| < 3.
How would we graph |x| > 3?
How would we graph |x| > 3?x > 3 OR x < 3
How would we graph |x| < 3?
How would we graph |x| < 3?x < 3 AND x > -3
Solve & Graph: |5 – 3x| ≥ 9
Rewrite as5 – 3x ≥ 9 or 5 – 3x ≤ -9
In an automobile assembly plant, a certain kind of
connecting rod is accepted for installation in an automobile only if the length of the rod is within .5 cm of 27 cm. For the acceptable lengths of the rod, write an inequality with absolute value and graph the solution set of the inequality.
Yesterday, the temperature stayed within 6⁰ of 70⁰. Graph:
