The Story of Alfie & Hetty Our restaurant is named in honour of the two friends that lived side by side in these terrace houses in the 1920’s. Alfie White lived in 209 from 1921, was known to be the right hand man of a local gangster and in charge of the Speakeasy that he ran in the upstairs of his house, now Alfie’s Lounge. Ms. N Stapleton who was known to the Glebe locals as “Hetty” was a sincere and caring member of society who lived at 207 until her passing in 1925. She waited patiently, but ultimately in vain, for the return of her son who was designated missing in action believed killed in WWI. Alfie and Hetty have created a rich history and inspired our venue. Downstairs, with its charming ambience of chandeliers and coal fireplaces, the signature dish is Hetty’s roast for two people. Upstairs we have the hidden gem, Alfie’s lounge. And at the mezzanine level there are sweeping views of the city from our private dining area. We welcome our guests to enjoy a home styled dining experience with us in this heritage listed iconic setting; once the home of Alfie and Hetty
