Our committee is being formed and we’re in the planning stages to take our membership and activities to the next level. We are especially focused on finding ways to expand membership by adding a new program that will encourage donors to make a multi-year commitment to reach full member status. As we look for new ways to come together as a Society, our future events and communications will provide you with fresh insight into how your dollars are invested in the community. In this Issue:

It’s been 17 years since TAUW had its fi rst female campaign leader when Clydella Hentschel co-chaired with her husband, Dave. Becky J. Frank, Chairman and CEO of Schnake Turnbo Frank | PR, has accepted the challenge to be the fi rst individual chairwoman. A strong TAUW supporter and former staff member (when she was beginning her professional career), she’ll lead our 2013 campaign.

Board of Directors holds 2010 Spring Mini-Retreat

Becky says. “I am moved by the compassion and services provided by these agencies thanks to the generous support provided by countless individuals who give of their time and resources.”

Clydella adds, “I am very pleased that Becky is going to head the campaign. I fi rst met Becky when she worked at TAUW. She helped us greatly in a very diffi cult campaign in 1992. She will do a great job!”

On April 13, the Board of Directors held its annual mini-retreat with this year’s focus on two key strategic areas: • The Strategic Planning task force, headed by Robyn Ewing, Williams, presented a draft of their work — Vision 2013. Board members reviewed and gave their input, which will be incorporated into the fi nal plan. • The upcoming campaign was discussed in smaller breakout groups and included an assessment of our Tulsa area economy and innovative ways to increase giving. The Board members’ efforts will be summarized and used by the Campaign Cabinet in goal setting.

Results from the Fall AuctionYouth Mentoring Experience withLynn Schusterman

We are pleased to tell you that Union senior Brittany Brown will be meeting with Lynn Schusterman as part of a youth mentoring experience. This item was purchased at the Tocqueville fall reception and donated to the school system. Last year, Lynn met with Christian Ewing, a student from Holland Hall, and he described it as “an honor and a privilege that I hope others can have and learn from.”

Now it’s Brittany’s turn. She is the senior class president at Union and has been the school’s ambassador to Israel with the American-Israel Friendship League. In the next Tocqueville newsletter, we’ll follow-up with Brittany regarding the mentoring experience.

TAUW - A Community Economic EngineWithout question, your dollars have a direct and profound impact on improving the lives of tens of thousands of individuals and families each year. However, your contribution to the Tulsa Area United Way also creates a signifi cant economic “return on investment” in this six-county area.

To quantify that impact, TAUW commissioned a research study through the Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa. CSC used IMPLAN as their model, which originated at the University of Minnesota and has also been vetted by Cornell University and Oklahoma State University.

The following highlights from the study validate what we intuitively knew – that TAUW is truly an economic engine for this community: • For every dollar invested by the Tulsa Area United Way in its partner agencies, those agencies were able to leverage an additional $9.10 on every dollar from other resources. • TAUW’s community investment directly supports 1,837 partner agency jobs. • An additional 3,682 downstream jobs have been created in local businesses and industries. • These combined jobs created $137,092,000 payroll income in the six-county area and the total economic impact was $249,573,000. • The collective services of the Tulsa Area United Way partner agencies generate over $22.7 million in tax revenue for our state and community. • TAUW’s annual investment has the economic impact of a ten-fold community return on investment. .

If you would like a copy of the full study, contact Laura Bell at 295-6618 or [email protected].

Dan Ellinor Takes on 2010 TAUW Campaign

Dan Ellinor was fi rst introduced to the United Way in 1981 because his fi rst boss was a passionate United Way supporter. Fast forward to 2010 and Dan is still a dedicated United Way enthusiast, which puts him in a perfect place to lead the 2010 campaign. Dan says, “I will work hard to ensure

TAUW has a successful campaign as the needs of the community

continue to increase.” We’re thrilled to have someone as positive and engaging as Dan to be TAUW’s 2010 Campaign Chairman.

When he’s not hard at work on the upcoming campaign, Dan’s “other” job is as senior executive vice president for BOK Financial. He joined BOKF in 2003 and is responsible for Commercial Banking for Bank of Oklahoma, Bank of Arkansas, Bank of Arizona and Bank of Albuquerque, BOKF Real Estate, Energy and Private Banking business lines and the TransFund network. Prior to joining BOKF in 2003, Dan served as regional president for Compass Bank in Dallas and previously spent nearly 20 years with Bank of America.

Dan and his wife, Andrea, have three children: a son and two daughters.

Like father, like sonDan’s son works for Head Start in Iowa and interned at Community Action Project of Tulsa County, a TAUWpartner agency.
