...to better engage citizens for thepurpose of addressing acute needs.

This platform should enable citizen-to-citizen and non-profit-to-citizen actions.

The end goal is to solve more problems, more efficiently by building non-profits’capacity, while enabling more citizen

actors to participate.

We Need a Bold, Yet Low Risk Solution

Create a ‘Citizen Challenge’ portal, whereproblems will be posted, and citizens will

be incentivized to solve them.

Businesses, foundations, the citygovernment and individuals will fundawards for the best solutions and/or

proposals for solving specific problems.

1. Content that attracts and retains visitors

2. A citizen driven wiki for aggregating all past and present plans for building a

better Alexandria

3. A citizen driven blog for writing about important issues in Alexandria

4. A non-profit directory for finding .Orgs with specific missions

directing people to solutions

6. Idea-to-solution planning method including project management software

7. Provide an easily to update contest framework

In order to deliver this level of citizenengagement, we must provide:

The Light Weight Solution

The next slides show some scary info graphics.

In sum, they show how a problem can be sourced

in a city, and a ‘call for engagement’ can becreated.

This framework then allows for online andphysical collaboration to bring solutions to life.

This works for problems big and small.

Technology alone will not satisfy more acuteneeds in the city of Alexandria. What is needed isa durable and sustained campaign to engagecitizens to tackle acute needs as they arise -

 facilitated by really smart tech.

Engagement

There are 5 parts to this engagement campaign.

1.Source insights to build buzz2.Create content to build traction3.Host meetups to build community

4.Retain community managers5.Launch contests to solve problems

Engagement

This component is meant to give

citizens a voice in the city. It’s alsomeant to be dead simple, so citizensget in the habit of being engagedwith the problems in the city - if in

the least to voice them. We’ll askthem to solve these problems later.

Source Insights

An insights platform can’t live inisolation (well, it can..but it’s not thebest way to build a long-term

program). We need to build tractionaround a coordinated citizenengagement program by publishingcontent that compelling toAlexandrians. A team of part-timebloggers, managed by an editorialdirector will satisfy this component.

Create Content

We’ll need to bring lots of different kinds of people together to solve all theproblems we have.

We’ll need to create meetups for thecity’s brightest thinkers - and most handy do-ers.

We’ll network these folks with oneanother, and make their ability to tackleproblems together easy and exciting.

Create Content

Out of these meetups will emerge

community managers capable of engaging people online and off around the problems, ideas andsolutions Alexandrians care about.

These CMs should be composed of people across all demographics - a

kid, teen, twenty something, parent,empty-nester.

They will be our eyes, ears and

biggest promoters.

Retain CMs

Armed with insights, compellingcontent, active meetups and an gaggleof community managers, we’ll be able

to launch contest for solving the city’sproblems.

We’ll be able to do this often and with

less and less need for heavy marketingpushes as citizens subscribe to ourcontent and expect interesting anengaging challenges from us.

Launch Contests
