Years K&1 THE CAT AND THE DOG ARE LOST

O nce upon a time there was a cat named Princess and a dog named Muffin. Princess was

lost and Muffin was trying to find her and they both became lost. Then their mums and dads went looking for them. There was a big, fat elephant who found them. Princess and Muffin climbed onto Stampy the elephant’s back and they went looking for their mums and dads. They thought that they had found them, but it was actually a lion. Muffin then saw her mum and dad. They hugged each other. Princess then got on Muffin’s back to go searching. Around the corner at the zoo they finally found Princess’ mum and dad. So they all were happy together again. By Nina Kehyayan

THE MAGICAL DOOR

T here was once a princess called Sarah. She had long, yellow hair and brown eyes. She liked to

paint all day long. Sarah had a very mean stepmother who made her do all the work. Sarah was sad because she couldn’t do any of her paintings. One day she saw some steps in her house that she had never seen before. Down the stairs were a dragon and a bunny. The dragon stamped her feet and made a big hole in the floor. Sarah came down the stairs and heard the green dragon say “Is that a spider over there?” Both the dragon and bunny got really scared and ran up the stairs and out of the house. Sarah came up and said “Where have they gone?” She went on a search for them in the forest with her friends. They found a door. They all tried opening it. They pulled and pulled and finally it swung open and through the door was a most beautiful garden. It had flowers, trees, a waterfall and lots of friendly animals all playing together. So they went through the door and lived happily in the magical garden. By Tzolare Giragosian

THE RABBITS OF MARS

O ne day there were 2 aliens named Mip and Mup. They wanted to find out about rabbits. So they

went to the planet Mars in their rocket. Their rocket looked like Superman flying through the stars. When they reached Mars, they saw a big tree. They walked over to look if there were any rabbits behind the tree. They looked and the tree was actually a rabbit. The rabbit looked so big to them because everything on that

planet was giant and Mip and Mup were too small. The rabbit could smell them and he wanted to eat them for dessert. When the rabbit grabbed them, Mup bit him. He let go and Mip and Mup ran to the rocket

with the rabbit chasing after them. They shut the rocket door and flew away to Jupiter – their own planet. By Narek Topouzian

LOST PUPPY

O ne day there was a puppy called Fluffy. She liked to play, share with the other puppies and she was

very nice to her puppy school teacher. She went by bus home from school. Her bus stop came up. When she got out of the bus, her mother, father and brother weren’t there. So she went to another puppy’s bus stop, but even their parents weren’t there. They moved onto one of the bigger puppy’s house with their parents. They ran home with them and they called each puppy’s parents to pick them up. Fluffy’s mummy and daddy came to pick her up and they went home for some yummy dinner. By Stella Pitt

MARIO PARTY

W aLuigi had to save the day because everything was going wrong. Bowzar got the first jewellery last

night. He trapped them by tricking them to come to the Bowzar Bash. He shrunk them to very very tiny people about 2cm tall. When the Mario crew – WaLuigi, Toad, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi and Wario were very tiny, they tried to beat Bowzar in a battle. They battled with their freezing guns. With two shots, WaLuigi froze Bowzar and Baby Bowzar into ice statues. They stole the jewellery back and suddenly they got bigger again. By Krikor Demirjian

GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE

I n the jungle there lived a boy named George. He lived in a big tree house with his gorilla servant. One morning he

woke up to hear an elephant crying. “Oh that must be Snowy.” George went to find him. He found Snowy with a scratch on his knee. George was very strong so he was able to use his big muscles and pick up Snowy the elephant and carry him back to his tree house. When they

were in the tree house, George and Snowy played fetch by throwing and catching sticks to each other. When it became night time, they ate some dinner and then George carried Snowy back to his mummy and daddy. By Taniel Betchakjian

LITTLE FOOT AND HIS DAD

O ne day there was a dinosaur called Little Foot. He hadn’t hatched out of his egg before his dad had gone

to find a new place to live. So they had never met. Little Foot stayed with his grandparents while his dad was away. It took a very long time for Little Foot’s dad to find a new place to live – it took 100 years! When his dad was coming back, a volcano erupted where they were going to live. Everyone was very frightened. Very sadly, Little Foot’s dad was killed by the volcano. He was very, very sad. When he was crying, his mum came gave him a hug to calm him down. Suddenly his dad reappeared because the volcano had not killed him! Everyone was so happy when the dad came back, they all hugged each other and danced around laughing. By Silvy Giragosian

What Am I? I am long, I have an engine, I carry passengers, I travel on tracks and I can carry bricks and coal. I am a train By Samuel Tateossian

Whales Whales are mammals that live in the ocean. They have a fish like tail and on their backs is a blowhole. They live on krill. Krill are tiny shells that have fish inside of them. Instead of chewing with their teeth they use bristles to eat their food. Whales use flippers and their large tails to move through the water. Whales are born alive – they don’t lay eggs because they suckle their young. I like whales because they have a blowhole. By Jonathan Amirzaian

Should we Brush our Teeth? I agree we should brush our teeth because it will keep our mouth healthy. Firstly, if you brush your teeth it is healthy for your mouth because it keeps your mouth clean. It also takes all of the germs out of your mouth. Secondly, if you brush your teeth they won’t go yellow or brown. They won’t die and fall out. Thirdly, we should brush our teeth twice a day. The times you have to brush them are in the morning and night. In the morning after breakfast you have to brush your teeth because you have just eaten. At night before bed you should brush them because you have eaten lunch and dinner. In conclusion, if you don’t brush your teeth they could get damaged and you will need to visit the dentist. By Daniel Zorlu

Why do Birds have Feathers? There are many types of birds with feathers. Feathers keep birds warm. If they didn’t have them, they would freeze. They give their wings and bodies a sleek, smooth shape just like a football. Different colours and patterns identify birds so we know which is which because they are all different. Feathers help birds to fly. The feathers move the air around them when they flap their wings. Bright male feathers attract females just like the peacock. Birds need feathers to live. By Levon Kehyayan

“No Hat, No Play” is a Fair Rule I agree that “No Hat, No Play” is a fair rule because

it’s for your own good. Firstly, if we don’t wear a hat we can get sunburnt on our face. Secondly, if you don’t have a hat you can get in really big trouble. Thirdly, if you don’t have a hat you can’t play games like soccer with your friends because you have to sit in the shade.

In conclusion, if you don’t have a hat you can get hurt. By Garo Betchakjian

Every Friday Should be a Party! Parties are fun but we will get behind in our work. Reasons for having a party every Friday are it will make you happy, you will make new friends and you can eat yummy food.

Reasons we shouldn’t have a party every Friday are we will get very tired, we won’t be learning anything and you could get sick from all the party food! I think we should have a party every Friday because I like to move my body and dance.

Grey Kangaroos A kangaroo is a warm blooded marsupial. The Grey Kangaroo is the largest of all the kangaroos. They grow to three metres long. Grey Kangaroos are grey or brown in colour. Grey Kangaroos shelter in the shade and feed in the early morning and late afternoon. They are plant eaters called herbivores. Kangaroos protect themselves with their strong, powerful legs. They hit with their front paws and slash with their claws. Kangaroos are found in Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. By Kevork Kachichian

How Do Cats Show Their Feelings? Cats have many different ways to show their feelings. When cats are playful, they show their feelings by leaping, jumping, skittering and chasing. They will chase anything like leaves, bits of string and ants! When cats are angry, they show their feelings by hissing, growling, spitting or scratching. Their fur stands on end and their tail twitches. When cats are frightened, they show their feelings by their fur standing on end, they crouch down, eyes dart everywhere and their tails twitching.

When cats are happy, they purr, sit quietly, smooch you and roll over to get their tummy tickled. Cats have feelings just like humans. By Ani Manoukian

How do we Breathe? When we breathe we are using our ribs, diaphragm, lungs, mouth and nose. When we breathe in, air comes in through our mouth and nose. The ribs move up and out because the lungs are filling with air. The diaphragm moves down because your lungs are getting bigger. When we breathe out, the air comes out of our mouth and nose. The ribs move down and out because the air is coming out of our lungs. The diaphragm relaxes and moves up wards because our lungs are getting smaller. We breathe all the time repeating this process continuously. By Daniel Zorlu

Liking and Disliking Dogs There are people that like dogs and those that don’t like dogs. Reasons why people don’t like dogs are, they are afraid because when dogs get excited they like to jump up on you. Sometimes people don’t wash their dogs and they become very smelly! Reasons why people like dogs are, that they help you do exercise everyday because you have to walk them. You get to go outside and run around at the park. They are a very big help to blind people because they are the blind person’s eyes to guide them. For these reasons, I sometimes like dogs. By Christine Boyadjian

HOMEWORK – WHO WANTS IT? There are many reason for and against doing homework every night. I will talk about the against reasons: 1. When you do homework every

THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE ACCORDING TO BABY BEAR

This morning at home Mama made some porridge. It was too hot so we went for a walk in the forest. When we came back I saw my porridge had been all eaten and Mama and Papa’s were half eaten.

We went into the living room and saw that our chairs were bumpy and my chair was broken! Then we went upstairs and looked at our beds. Mama and Papa saw that their beds were very messy. I

looked in my bed and there was someone in it! She opened her eyes and she was frightened of me. She jumped out of the bed, went downstairs and ran out the front door. We never saw that naughty girl again! By Sonya Boyadjian

THE AMAZON The Amazon Rainforest is a good place to live because there are lots of animals to look at and learn about. The temperature is warm all year round. There is lots of water because there is over two metres of rain a year. There are lots of weird and wonderful birds, animals and reptiles to see! However there are lots of poisonous animals as well. Animals can jump out and attack you. It’s very hot and wet so you will be very sweaty. The Amazon Rainforest can be a scary place to be. By Jessica Jelekerian

SHOULD LOLLIES BE SOLD AT THE CANTEEN?

I disagree that lollies should be sold at the canteen because they are not healthy. Firstly, lollies are not healthy because they have lots of sugar. Secondly, lollies shouldn’t be sold at the canteen because they make you fat. Thirdly, it would be boring if they were sold every day because it’s not special anymore. In conclusion, I don’t think lollies should be sold because they will make you unhealthy. By Aramis Malouf

CHICKENS Chickens are small flying birds. They live on farms and are a type of poultry. They are covered in feathers, have a comb on their heads, beaks and four claws. Chickens can have black, brown or white feathers. They lay eggs. When the baby chicks hatch from the egg they are covered in soft down feathers. Chickens eat worms and compost. They are omnivores which means they eat both meat and plants. I like chickens because they give you food! By Samuel Tateossian

Some Activities in 2009…

Easter Palm Sunday Concert On Sunday 5th April our school was going to do an Easter concert. We had learnt poems fluently. When we had arrived there, we had a short time to play. We were having so much fun and then it was time for the hat parade. My hat had a bunny on it. The hat parade was great fun, we ended by making a cross and an egg. The K-2 started by singing Hippity Hop, dressed like bunnies and recited some poems. The next part was when all the school spread around the garden and Jesus walked through the crowd and we followed. When we were in our positions we sang Ride into Jerusalem and some recited poems. After that we sang a song called Palm Sunday and The Handle and lots and lots and lots of people played instruments to accompany. That was my favourite song. We finished with the very loud and joyful song Risen and He’s Alive. By Daniel Zorlu

Asian Cultural Day In Term 2 we were learning about Asian countries because they are close geographically to Australia. On one of the last days we got to learn and play different games from Vietnam, China and India. Games we played were Round the World Hopscotch where you had to throw a pebble on the first square and jump over it if you threw it in the middle you had to hop in all the squares. Another game was 21 from India that you had to throw the ball to each other 21 times without dropping it and not letting the other team take it off you. Cat and Mouse was for the K-2 where the cat had to chase the mouse around the circle going dodging in and out without being caught. Eye of the Tiger was you had to throw beanbags into a circle shaped like an eye. Catching Fish is like quoits where you have 5 rings to throw into a stick. We also played Chinese Skipping. For a delicious treat we were able to eat Butter Chicken and Rice from India, Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Chinese Dim Sims and Spring Rolls. By Jonathan Amirzaian

Junior First Aid The 3-6 students were lucky enough to be able to learn and participate in Junior First Aid. We learnt about different bandaging for different injuries, who to call in an emergency and how to save someone’s life. We were able to bandage each other. Some bandaged arms, legs and even heads! Something that was very important was how to help someone who is not breathing. We learnt all about how to administer CPR. First we needed to breathe into the patient’s mouth three times and do compressions on the chest for one minute. After the minute, you need to check if the patient has begun to breathe or we need to do it all over again. Each student got to try this on the dummies. The information passed onto us by the instructors was very important and should stay with us for many years to come. By Garo Betchakjian & Sonya Boyadjian

Bounce Sport Every Monday in Term 2 we had gymnastics. All the activities were extremely fun! My favourite was doing somersaults. The other skills and activities were monkey bars, doing the spiderman where you had to put your hands on the ground and climb up the walls with your hands. It looked like the perfect handstand. We also did cartwheels towards the end so we could get used to it. On the last week, the Bounce teachers brought a blow up track like a trampoline. We did star jumps, pencil jumps and lots and lots of fun things. Our teachers were Matthew and Karen and they taught us many great gymnastic moves. By Daniel Zorlu

Armenian Cultural Day On the 1st of November, Alexander Primary School hosted its first Armenian Cultural Day. There were Armenian arts and crafts on display and some to also buy. There was a lot of entertainment from musicians outside of the school as well as the students of the school performing songs and dances. One exciting activity was an Armenian Fashion Parade by the students. We dressed in all sorts of different Armenian costumes to parade for the audience. We were dressed as dancing girls, kings and queens, musicians, princesses, brides and grooms, soldiers, townspeople, Brave Vartan, Lion Mher and St Gregory the Illuminator. After the parade, the students performed Armenian songs for everyone. Some were ̳÷ÇÏ Í³÷ÇÏ ÍÇñ³ÝÇ« Ð¿Û Ö³Ý ºñ»õ³Ý« ºñ³½ ÇÙ ºñÏÇñ« ºë ÇÙ ²Ýáõß Ð³Û³ëï³ÝÇ« ÆÙ ºñÏñÇ ìñ³Û ÞáÕáõÙ ¿£ Delicious food was also being served for all to enjoy. Kebabs, Lahmajoun and Tan yoghurt drinks as well as all sorts of yummy sweet treats. The day was an absolute success and we are sure that in years to come, the cultural day will get bigger and better! By Kevork Kachichian, Samuel Tateossian & Jonathan Amirzaian

Swimming Program In Term 4 as part of sport we participated in a swimming program at Terrey Hills Swimming Centre. There was a small pool and a big pool to swim in. We learnt many new skills and built on the ones we already knew. The skills we learnt were butterfly, breaststroke arms, swimming underwater, kicking holding onto the kickboards, holding our breath underwater, freestyle and backstroke. In the big pool our favourite game was to throw the goggles into the pool and to dive and swim to get them. On the 20th November we had a safety lesson, where we learnt how to help people from drowning, how to get into the pool safely, where to and not swim at the beach, how to signal for help and who to go to for help. I am sure that everyone enjoyed our swimming program this year! By Ani Manoukian

Book Week In Term 3 we had a great time in Week 5 for Book Week. This year’s theme was Book Safari. Everyone had to dress up as their favourite book character. There were so many different characters from both English books and Armenian books. They were Beauty, Ariel, Sleeping Beauty, 2 of the 3 Little Pigs, Lion Mher, Sam I Am, Snow White, Brave Vartan, Sharkie, Edmund and Peter, Edward Tulane, Little Red Riding Hood, Tinkerbell, Joan, Stink, Tom, Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy, Willy Wonka, Matilda, Will, Molly, Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, St Gregory the Illuminator, the Princess and the Pea, Brave Nazar, Charlotte. Mrs Dernee was dressed as Glinda the Good Witch of the North, Miss Knudsen was Captain Hook, Mrs Seta was Queen Ashkhen and Mr Manoug was Kasbar Agha. We had to get up on stage and talk about which character we were and why they were our favourite. We also performed songs for parents who came to watch. They were Come on a Book Safari, Dr Seuss Medley, This Little Light of Mine and ÞáõÝÇÏÇÝ ¸³ëÁ. We had such an amazing time, we can’t wait for next year! By Levon Kehayayan

Surf Life Saving The year 2-6 were invited to an information session with three lifesavers from the Northern Beaches. We learnt about rips at the beach, dangerous animals like Blue Bottles, Blue Ringed Octopus and jellyfish. We also learnt about the equipment that the lifeguards have and use to save people and that we MUST swim between the yellow and red flags at the beach. Garo, Ani and Siroun got to dress as lifesavers and carry the flotation devices they use when they go out to rescue someone in the surf. Levon was dressed as a person at the beach with the appropriate clothes and things he needs to be safe at the beach. These are wearing a hat, T-shirt, sunglasses and suncream. To carry an umbrella to sit under and have plenty of water to drink. As a gift at the end and to remind us we were given drink bottles that said “Travel safe to the beach. Arrive Alive.” By Sonya Boyadjian & Garo Betchakjian

Aerobics In Term 4 as our Fitness activities we have done Aerobics. Everyone in years 2-6 in groups or individually had to come up with an aerobics routine to music. We had to practise lots and lots. When we were all ready each group had to perform and lead the school in their routine. When the competition began, each student had to judge and give marks to each group. We had to judge them on whether the performance was easy to follow, the originality of the moves, coordination of the people in the group and whether they were following the music correctly. Lastly we had to mark whether the music suited the performance. By Christine Boyadjian & Jessica Jelenkerian

The Box

One beautiful sunny morning I was in bed thinking about the plans for my day. I remembered about the subject my teacher opened up on Thursday. She talked about the mystery that hadn’t been solved for 20 years - Andre Rieus’ violin. It had been stolen by a bike gang – The Rebels.

So I decided to try and solve it with my friend Mrs Solver. Her real name is Jackie but she’s so good at solving things I call her Mrs Solver. So I picked up my phone and called her. ‘Hi, I am sorry that I rang early, but do you remember when Mrs Dernee talked about Andre Rieus mystery?’ ‘Yes, yes, I remember but do you think we can solve the mystery? We are only ten years old!’ ‘I really think we should.’ ‘Okay, I will be at your house in ten minutes.’ I hung up the phone and said, ‘let’s do this thing.’ So I ran to my drawer and got pants, a t-shirt and socks.

One minute later I heard the door. ‘Hello’ ‘Hi, I am as excited as if we were flying to Armenia.’ ‘Yes, so am I.’ ‘So are we going?’ ‘Yes!’ So we got our gosmatic gloves and flew to a train station. ‘I guess we have to buy a ticket,’ Jackie said, ‘but I don’t have any money.’ ‘Neither do I.’ Then my friend said, ‘I guess that we will have to jump on the train.’ ‘Yes, I guess do.’ So we jumped on and we were feeling the wind, the wind was so strong that it was like being a bullet. ‘At the tunnel we have to jump.’ ‘Okay.’ So I screamed ‘1,2,3 jump.’ We jumped off and it felt like jumping off a cliff. I turned on my torch and searched for the hole. My friend spotted it. Then we went in. We saw a light shining like a star. I said ‘Let’s have a look.’ We found a red box half opened. We ran and opened it. It was Andre Reius’ violin. I said, ‘How do we go back.’ ‘I will tell you a way. Hold the box and say bambroo in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.’ Now looking around I was in Mrs Dernee’s house. We ran to her and said, ‘We found the violin.’ ‘Wow, wow, wow!’ Mrs Dernee told us that we would get a trophy at school. Then Jackie and I went home to tell our parents about our wonderful adventure.

My Favourite Television Program

My favourite television program is Family Guy. This show is a comedy. It is on at 5pm on the Foxtel channel.

This show is about a family that does crazy stuff, playing funny jokes on each other, getting angry in funny ways and doing crazy stunts.

In the family, the dad’s name is Peter, the mum’s name is Lois, the baby’s name is Stewie and the daughter’s name is Meg. Peter is very lazy, Lois cares about everything, Stewie is evil and wants to take over the whole Earth and Meg doesn’t really care about anything.

This is my favourite program because I enjoy watching it and laughing at what they do to their friends and family. I would recommend this to people over 8 years and I would recommend it to all my friends.

My Favourite Television Program

My favourite television program is Escape from Scorpion Island. It is a reality show and it is on at 5pm weekdays on channel 7.

This program is about children in teams, trying to make friends and work as a group to escape from Scorpion Island. The way they escape is by doing missions such as swimming with a bunch of skulls which float down under barrels or trying to play pick up sticks, by bungy jumping down to huge sticks and picking them up. The first team to finish the missions are the winners. When you win you receive a torch. Once you have five torches you make a boat and escape from Scorpion Island.

The children in these episodes have all different personalities. Some are very scared of heights so they can’t do missions with heights. Some are very stubborn and get on fair players’ nerves. Others are very quiet and get stuck between fights for captain of the team or to take part in a mission. Very few children cooperate and are fair but in Scorpion Island by the end all the children learn to cooperate.

This show is my favourite program because you can watch children try to get along and go through all sorts of adventures. It’s interesting they way they act and decide things and how they do these tasks. I’d say any age could watch this show but they probably wouldn’t understand what the children are doing so I’d recommend this show for the ages 8 and up.

The Eureka Uprising

Dear Diary,

It’s been really difficult trying to cope with the fact that we have to pay money every month for a licence, if we did or didn’t find gold. I have had enough! It’s time for Hotham to get a piece of my mind!

That’s why Peter Lalor and a few other men (including me) built a stockade. We also put a Eureka flag with the Southern Cross on it up. So we go there everyday to drill so that everyone is ready to fight.

Sunday at dawn the troopers, policemen and soldiers unexpectedly came to fight. It was horrifying. The ground was covered in blood, bones and body parts.

After a few weeks Hotham finally abolished the licences. We were all celebrating by drinking alcohol and dancing. It was a great relief!!!

LIFE ON THE GOLDFIELDS When I reached the goldfields I saw hundreds of people. The children were playing in the water and the ladies were trying to find the best place to wash their clothes. The land was dry and there was no grass. Half of the trees on the goldfields had been cut down because the miners needed the wood to make fires. When I went to the shop I bought a pan so that I could use it for finding gold in the streams. I also bought a pick, shovel, cradle and a gold licence. I started to pan for 25 minutes. It was getting dark so I worked the cradle for 20 minutes, then it was really dark so I put my tent up and cooked my dinner and after that I slept. By George Keoshgerian

On the Goldfields When I arrived at the goldfields and I saw men pouring their hearts into trying to find gold. I decided to start panning as well and within minutes I found a nugget. Well I was very excited to find a nugget, so I didn’t give up. I kept on digging and digging and in two hours I had found a lot of gold. I was very excited. Then we cooked dinner and ate it and went to sleep. By Michael Tateossian

Elizabeth I

Queen Elizabeth I was born on the 7th September at Greenwich. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boyleyn.

Elizabeth had a half brother Edward who was born in 1537 and a Catholic half sister Princess Mary who died in November 1558.

Elizabeth was very well educated and was fluent in six languages. She inherited

intelligence, determination and shrewdness from both parents. She reigned for 45 years.

Elizabeth was called ‘Gloriana,’ ‘Good Queen Bess’ and the ‘Virgin Queen.’

Elizabeth avoided confrontation and did not attempt to define Parliament’s constitutional position and rights.

She very much enjoyed hunting and enjoyed court masques. She made England Protestant again. She helped the country with foreign aid. She also taught England about literature and the arts.

Elizabeth sent people out to explore new countries. Her rule was known as the ‘Golden Age’ and her will was law.

Sadly Elizabeth never got married nor had children. She died at Richmond Palace on the 24th of March 1603. The next line to the throne was King James VI.

King Richard III

King Richard the third was born on the 2nd of October 1452. He became king in 1483, 31 years later. He was born at Fotheringhay Castle.

He married an English lady called Anne on the 12 July 1472. He had one child.

He battled against Henry Tudor in the War of the Roses. He died in the battle of Bosworth at the end of the War of the Roses. When he died in the war they found his body gashed and stripped. He was the last king to die in battle.

King Richard was the only king not to be put in a tomb.

My Favourite Television Program

My favourite television program is Australian Idol. It is a competitive show to see who is the best singer out of thousands of hopefuls. It is on at 7:30 and finishes at 8:30 or sometimes at 9:30. It is on channel 10.

It is about a lot of people who like singing and come and show the audience and the three judges how well they can sing.

The personalities are Marcia Hines, JD and Dicko. The hosts are Andrew G and Ricki Lee. Marcia Hines is never mean to anybody. She is always very kind to everyone she talks to. JD is a little bit nasty sometimes but he is very funny. Dicko is very quiet and is very funny to everyone he talks to.

It is my favourite program because I like singing and I would recommend it to most teenagers and to other people from 7-20 years and maybe even older people.

MY FAVOURITE TELEVISION PROGRAM

My favourite television program is Home and Away. Home and Away is a drama and a soap opera. It is on channel seven at 7pm.

My favourite program Home and Away is about some friends who live in Summer Bay. In my favourite television program there are a lot of sad and funny moments. We see true love moments and crime moments. Every day when Home and Away is on something new happens.

In Home and Away my two favourite characters are Ruby and Geoff. Ruby is very thoughtful and kind. Geoff is very calm and he is a good friend to talk to.

Home and Away is my favourite program because it is very interesting. It also ends in cliff hangers, so you never want to stop watching it. I would recommend this show for children from 10 or 11 year old and even for adults up to 40 years old.

King James II was born in 1633. He was involved in the civil war so he fled to France. He got married twice. He first married Anne Hyde and she bore him four sons and four daughters, before her death in 1671.

Then he married Mary of Modena. She bore him two sons and five daughters. His children’s names were two called Charles, Mary, two called James, Anne, Edgar, Henrietta, two called Catherine, Isabella, Charlotte, Elizabeth, Francis, Edward and Louisa.

When he was near to death he fought to keep the Catholic faith in England. That cost him his crown. He was taken out of his kingdom in 1688. In 1701 he died from a very painful disease.

King Arthur – The Legend King Arthur was the first born son of King Uther Pendragon. He was the heir to the throne. He was raised in a secret place as advised by Merlin the wise magician.

When King Uther died Merlin used his magic to set a sword in a rock. On the sword was written, ‘Whoever pulls out this sword out of the rock is the rightful king.’ Many tried to pull the sword out but with no success. Arthur pulled it out by chance for someone else to use in a tournament and he became king.

He gathered knights and fought against the Saxons, who were taking over England. After great battles he brought his knights and soldiers to victory.

He built a strange castle in Camelot, where he met his knights at a round table.

He fought with beasts and searched for treasures which he believed cured all illness. This was the ‘Quest for the Holy Grail.’

Merlin the magician guided him to Excalibur a magical sword from the lady of the lake. Excalibur was a sword that defeated evil.

He got married to the beautiful Queen Grievers whose half sister was Morgan le Fay who added a dark side to their happy life.

My Favourite Television Program

My favourite television program is Miami Ink. This program is about people getting tattooed at the best tattooing studio in Miami. It is on at 5:30 – 6:30 on Sundays. This program is on the Discovery channel.

This program is about ordinary people getting tattooed in Miami’s best tattoo studio. It is interesting because there is a story behind every tattoo. It is also interesting because the tattoos are so good that people can talk about them for a long time. It is fun to watch because every week two members from the team go out of Miami to tattoo people who are famous.

The characters are Armi who is the owner of the shop. Kat does all the black and white tattoos. She is rated 5th in America for back and white tattoos. There is Darren a very talented tattoo artist and Chris, Nunez, and Yogi. Armi the owner is very serious about tattoos but he can also be funny. Kat is very talented and she is very diligent. Chris’ talent is in coloured tattoos. Darren is very good at tattoos that have a lot of detail. Nunez is also very talented and has good customer service. Yogi is an apprentice but he is still good.

I like this program because you never know what tattoo people will want and you always know that every tattoo will be nice in its own way. I recommend this program to children 8 years and up because little children might get frightened by the blood in it.

The Championship

The captain Kevin and his team came out of the door to win the championship against the Dutch Dragons. The Dutch dragons had had the championship for three years straight and this was their only chance to win the championship from them.

Then the whistle blew and they started dribbling the ball. The Dragons scored the first goal in 20 seconds. The audience got very sad but in the next 4 minutes Kevin’s mate scored a goal, they even got a penalty because Dean the Dragon’s captain pushed Kevin on the groung to get the ball. Kevin got the shot in and they were leading by 2. Then in the next 8 minutes the Dragons scored a goal. There was less than 3 minutes to go until full time.

When they were dribbling the ball to the ring Kevin took a shot but Dean saved it. Then with 20 seconds left Kevin had the ball. He shot the ball 3,2,1, GOAL! Kevin scored in the last second meaning the Bullet had won by 2 points. The score was 10-8 and the Dragons lost and so the celebrations went on for the rest of the year.

King William

King William was born in Normandy on September 9th 1029. William was the son of Robert Duke of Normandy.

Later on in his life he fell in love with Matilda of Flanders and on they got married. They had six daughters and four sons.

King William was crowned King of Normandy in 1067. During his reign he demolished other countries in war. King William invaded England but he needed some help. Luckily the Normans, French, Bretons and Duches all hated the English. With an army this big, England didn’t stand a chance. In time England lost the battle and King William conquered the land that no one thought could be taken over. Amazingly King William invaded Scotland in 1072, you would think after all these years he would have lost his touch but he crushed the Scottish and took over.

In 1081 King William did it again. He took over Wales making them wish that they never had a war. During the last 15 years of his reign he spent his time in Normandy. King William spent his last month fighting the French.

Unfortunately he died in 1087 in a riding accident. He fell off his horse. The people of Normandy were devastated because they had lost one of the greatest leaders of all time. King William was buried in Saint Stephen’s Abbey in Normandy.

John Logie Baird

John Logie Baird was born in Scotland on the 14th August 1888. He was the son of a clergyman. When he grew up he studied at Glasgow University but he couldn’t finish his studies because World War 1 broke out.

John Logie Baird wanted to join the army but he was an unhealthy man and was not accepted into the army.

After WWI he moved to the South Coast of England to concentrate on making a working television. He first demonstrated a working television on January 26th 1926. One year later he proved to everyone that television signals could travel long distances showing a transmission from London, to Glasgow.

In 1928 John Logie Baird demonstrated colour television and transmitted television signals across the Atlantic Ocean from London to New York. In 1929, with the help of the German Post Office, John Logie Baird set up an experimental television service.

In 1937 John Logie Baird’s system was dropped in favour of Marconi’s better system. John Logie Baird died on June 14, 1946 at Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex. He had a stroke.

The Four Men

One sunny morning four sailors were on a boat to catch some fish to eat. As they sailed it started to get foggy. ‘Boom’, their boat was hit on the edge and a shark jumped onto the boat. It was trying to get one of the men. The shark bit one of the men’s legs off. It was trying to get the man’s whole body but it could not.

The other two men were trying to get the shark off him. The third man got his pistol and shot the shark. After that the shark slid back off the man and all the men tried to heal his wound. Meanwhile because no one was controlling the boat, it crashed into an island that had not been mapped.

The men set off to find food. They found something that they had never seen before. While they were trying it they spotted a poisonous snake. The men killed the snake and then buried it.

As they were digging the grave they hit something, so they dug and dug until they found a red box. When they opened it they saw a map. They got the map out. The map showed them where to find a stack of food. They travelled across the island and found nothing. All they found was a big hedge. Then they saw a small hole.

They slid down the hole and found a stack of food, first aid items and a whole lot more. When they looked up they saw a big, big boat, so they took the boat and everything else and went home.

Should Homework be Banned?

I feel that there are many reasons that we should have homework.

Brains should be used most of the day and if you don’t do homework they aren’t. Homework helps the child remember what they have learned at school. School only provides one period for each subject, that’s why there is homework for each subject.

Teachers want their students to learn and if they need more work on a subject they give them homework. Otherwise the child’s parents are paying for nothing.

Some people may say that children are given too much homework, but homework should not be fully banned as it is still very important. I suggest that homework could be done for three days of the week and that way kids have time to do other things as well.

The Pop Star

I was on stage happy about how I had performed. I had just played a song with my black shiny and beautiful guitar. My name is Zaber. I was on my knees thanking my band.

My host said that I should play another song. I was nervous, the crowd was still cheering. I played. I was doing very well until I was so confident in myself that I stopped looking at my music. Suddenly my head started spinning and I lost where I was and the crowd started staring at me. I was embarrassed, more embarrassed than farting in front of the Prime Minister. The crowd started booing and even the band started leaving. One of the members of the band said, “Tell us when you’re ready to play properly.” I was crying. I drove home and ran into my room.

Then next morning I woke up and checked my phone. I had a missed call from the host of the show. I rang him back and he said that he was wondering if I wanted to practise every morning. I thanked him and I went to practice every day.

Nine weeks later I went on stage. Fifty tickets were sold but only half way through the song I heard people text messaging their friends. Ten minutes later I saw about 1000 people. I must have done really well. I was seeing my fans cheering and waving. I was rocking and rolling. I felt so happy.

Caroline Chisholm

My name is Caroline Chisholm and I was born in 1808 near Northampton in England. I was the daughter of William Jones who was a well to do farmer. When I was 22 I agreed to marry Captain Archibald Chisholm of East India.

We settled at Windsor, where I remained with my three sons when my husband was recalled to active service in 1840. I found positions for immigrant girls and I sheltered many of them in my home. In January 1841 I approached Governor and Lady Gipps and the proprietors of the Sydney Herald with a plan for a girls’ home. This home was entirely dependent on public subscription and sheltered up to ninety-six women.

To a select committee on distressed labourers I outlined a scheme for settling families on the land with long leases. Undaunted I arranged at my own expense the settlement of twenty three families on land at Shell Harbour given to me by Robert Towns. At a second committee in1844 I spoke about this experiment, but my plan was again rejected.

By now I had been led away from alleviating immediate distress to expounding reforms and promoting my own colonisation scheme.

My house became an Australian information centre for several years with my husband and me receiving an average of 140 letters a day.

When the first chartered ship Slains Castle sailed on October 1st 1850 I personally supervised the embarkation of passengers, placing friendless girls with families and the aged with the young. Yet I feared that gold seekers would neither produce colonial stability nor create an environment suitable for the young females.

In March 1851 my husband left for Australia to work as a colonial agent, leaving me with the increasing duties in Britain.

In October 1854 I toured the Victorian goldfields and at a meeting in Melbourne in November preposed a series of shelter sheds along the routes to the diggings.

I died on March 25th 1877. My husband died in August 8 months after me.

I will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. I helped to give dignity to women and their families in a harsh colonial society. My achievement was made possible by my idealism and courage allied to my executive ability and personal charm and by the presence and unwavering support of my husband.

My Magical Transport

Floo Powder Floo powder is a magical powder that you use to get from one magical place to another. You first get a hand full of Floo Powder. Then you go into the fireplace. You say the area very clearly. Then you drop the powder on the ground and a green fire appears. Next thing that you know is that you are at your destination. That is how Floo powder works.

The Knight Bus The Knight Bus is red and is three decked. It has beds inside and has a very long chandelier. It is magical so only magic people can see it. It is invisible to Muggles. It drives very fast, you will be at your destination in about two minutes. That’s what I know about the Knight Bus.

A Strange Adventure

One icy cold winter’s day there lived a girl in an old town. She had no friends except her brother. She had black hair and blue eyes. She was eight years old. Her young brother also had black hair and blue eyes.

One day Matthew said, “Let’s go and discover what there is at the back of the town. So they went. It took a very long time but they were very eager and very ready for what was in front of them.

They got lost and they couldn’t find a way out. They thought that they should follow the footsteps, so they did. The footsteps led them to a very big, tall and very wide house. They went in and they found an old lady. They were very brave and did not care about where they were.

Emma asked the old lady who she was and the old lady that they would find out who she was when they found the box. They were both very suspicious when they heard that they were supposed to find a box.

The old lady didn’t give them any clue where the box could be so they had trouble finding it but they didn’t care they just went on and on, they didn’t want to give up now.

They searched everywhere. They went into a street and one of the town’s houses was shining so they went in. They found the colourful box. In it was a note and an angel’s picture. The note said that the old lady was their grandmother. They were very pleased when they saw it.

Their grandmother told them that the angel stood for let God take care of my grandson and granddaughter.

Monday 31st of August was Alexander Primary School’s annual sports carnival. It was a very beautiful day and both teams were ready to get active, cheer on their team and have fun. First we did our morning assembly, after we did our March Past. Everyone was good but Masis won. After we went on to the age races, everyone was determined to win. We did skipping races and a lot of people fell but they all got up and continued with the race. After all the races we had the War Cry and I was shocked because both teams got the points. Ararat were best at the song and Masis were the creative team. Both teams did very well. After the war cry we had a break for recess and a play.

Next we did the obstacle races. In the K-2 race Masis won and in the 3-6 race Ararat won. After that the K-2s played over and under ball and corner spry. Masis won both of these games. Then the seniors did captain ball and tunnel ball and again Masis won.

Then we did shot put and George broke the school record. Next was the three legged race it was great fun even if you fell down. The sack race was also a fun experience seeing the many different ways of getting to the finish line. After that it was time for the tug-of-war. I tried to include all of my team members in this. Masis won the 1st and the 3rd heat, while Ararat won the 2nd one. After all the hard work it was ribbon time. When all the names were called people cheered each other. And then it was time to announce the winner and the winners were Masis. Everyone in Masis screamed and jumped up and down. I really think that both teams did very well and that the points were very close. By Siroun Jelenkerian - Captain

team was successful in winning this race. Then we had the junior ball games. One was corner spry and the other was over and under ball. Masis won both of these games. Next were the senior ball games. There was captain ball and tunnel ball. Masis also won these games. Then there was the shot put for years 3-6. The ball was very heavy especially for the year 3 students. The two brothers, Sevag and George are the strongest and toughest so of course they came first. George also broke the school record for 11 and 12 year olds. Then there was my favourite event, the three-legged race. It was for everyone. People that I saw were falling over but most of them were lucky and went on. For my age group (11 and 12 year olds) there was Ilda and Siroun, Florence and me, Nareg and Aren, George and Michael and Maral and my sister Christine. Florence and I for the second year in a row came in 2nd place. I was extremely happy.

Next was the sack race. We all had big white sacks to race with. We got into the sack and started jumping forwards to the finish line.

After that was the tug-of –war. It was tough. The seniors got into their teams to pull a rope to victory. The first one Masis won, 2nd my team and the last one….Masis!! Then there was the parents’ tug-of-war. Even with my brother helping Masis won while Ararat were full of injuries. Then there was the ribbon ceremony. Each person who came 1st, 2nd or 3rd came up to the teachers and received an award. After that they told us the final score and Masis won!! But Ararat tried their best.

On Monday August 31st Alexander Primary School had their annual sports carnival for 2009 at the Terrey Hills Oval. At first we had our usual assembly and then we did stretches with Mrs Dernee. After that Ararat and Masis were told to line up quietly to do the March Past. It was tough for the teachers but Masis won with their good posture and for marching in time. Next were the age races Mrs Dernee called the ages one by one on the microphone. First were the K-1s. They had no idea at first but when the teacher explained it they knew what to do. They did a great job but were very exhausted. Then the 2-4s did their race and after them it was my class’ turn. We had to run 100 metres, the 2-4s, 75 metres and the K-1s 50 metres. Next were the skipping races. They were similar to the running races, but the students used skipping ropes. After that was something that both teams were nervous about – The War Cry! The teachers were very impressed. They called it a tie. Masis got points for creativity and Ararat got points for presentation. I was so happy it was over because next was recess. We were able to relax and play small games for about 20 minutes. After recess we all got ready for the obstacle race. The purpose of the game was to get clothes from the hoola hoops and go around the cone and then place the clothes back in the hoola hoops and run at the same time. First up were the K-2s. They were split into their teams to compete. Masis successfully won their race. Then there were the 3-6s. We had so much fun and my

On Wednesday, September 23rd year 5/6 set out on their three day trip to Bathurst and the surrounding areas.

When we got to Echo Point we took pictures of the Three Sisters but the wind

was very strong and it was very cold and because we had a dust storm we couldn’t see much. Later we went on the scenic railway which went straight down. Afterwards we went on a bushwalk and while we were walking we saw some things that miners did back in 1851. After that we went on a skyway which took us over the trees and bushes and back to the top.

On reaching Bathurst we got to ride around the Mt. Panorama track. Then we went onto the goldfields. We met our guide Bert. Bert taught us all there is to know about gold. Bert and Chris (his wife) spoke to us about their lives on the goldfields. Then we divided into groups and got to play games of the 1850s. Alexander School was very strong and won the tug-of-war. We also got to make damper. It was delicious! Next it was off to pan for gold. We didn’t find much but it was a good experience. That night we got to tell scary stories around the heater in the hall because it was too cold outside for a campfire.

Our second day began with a visit to Abercrombie caves. We met our guide Lawrie. We walked up hill and down hill to get to the caves. The caves were beautiful. We saw a baby bat in the great cave. Then we entered part of the cave that looked like a butcher’s shop. We found mince meat and the thigh of the cow. After we came out of the caves we crossed a suspension bridge that was swinging to and fro.

Then it was back to the goldfields, Bert took us into the museum. The first room in the museum was made to look like a miner’s shaft. It was very dark and it made you really feel like you were underground. In the next room we were shown all the different tools that they used on the goldfields. We even saw a model of the largest nugget found. In the third room we learnt about the many uses for gold and how valuable it really is.

Next we visited the blacksmith’s. Some children pumped the bellows to keep the fire going and then Bert put metal in the fire and shaped it. The fire was so hot that the metal bent very easily. Bert bent it and twisted it. That was amazing!

The cattle and drome show was fantastic. It was full of amazing and talented farm animals. It did smell a little but the show was worth it. We met ponies, sheep goats and cattle. We learnt how to milk cows and were shown how to shear sheep. All the animals were well trained.

That night was cold and everyone was excited and ready to boogie at the bush dance. We did all sorts of dances, like the nut-bush and for every dance Ani and Sophie gave chocolates to the best dancers.

Day three started with a hay ride. It was fun because while we were driving we got to see the farm and the animals in it. Then we visited the animal nursery. The animals were so cute. Some were very big and ugly. We saw emus, kangaroos, pigs, roosters, sheep and lots more. We got to feed some animals but the emus tended to peck you. Lots of animals like the sheep were very friendly and we got to pat them.

Next we visited the National Motor Racing Museum. We watched a movie about cars and the Mt. Panorama race track. Later we saw some racing cars and sports bikes.

On our way back to Sydney we dropped in at the Mount Piper Power Station where we watched a movie about electricity and energy and how to make and save them. Then it was on to the Edge cinema where we saw Wild Australia. It told us that there are 5000 animals on the edge of extinction. We saw mountains, bushes and lakes. We even saw explorers climbing mountains and swimming in caves.

We had a fantastic three days thoroughly enjoying every wonderful experience.
