CommunityFrom atop a ridge overlooking Bear Creek in southwest Douglas County, Alexander High School (AHS) has stood since 1986 with a firm dedication to excellence. From its inception, the school has sustained vitality as the community surrounding it has moved from a semi-rural area to a burgeoning, commercialized suburban region.
CurriculumThe academic program at AHS is organized on an eight period hybrid schedule, with the option to enroll in blocked courses. Students may earn up to eight credits per year. The school strives to meet diverse student interests, ranging from fine arts to computer technology. AHS offers a plethora of Advanced Placement classes as well as Career, Technical and Agricultural (CTAE) pathways.
MagnetBecause of high Advanced Placement (AP) enrollment and test scores, AHS was chosen in 2014 as one of 100 schools worldwide for AP Capstone™, an innovative program that allows students to engage in the rigorous development of skills critical for success in college: inquiry, research, collaboration, and writing. The program includes a two-course sequence: AP® Seminar and AP Research. Developed in response to feedback from higher education faculty and college admission officers, AP Capstone complements the in-depth, subject-specific rigor of AP courses and exams. Students in the district for AHS as well as students throughout Douglas County may apply for the magnet program during the fall of their 8th grade year.
