SPR Documents

• Status of Implementation– Existing resources; level of network connectivity; part of

(inter-) national grid infrastructures; ROC; community engagement programmes;

• Implementation Plans– Plans to contribute to EGEE; (national) roadmaps; other

coordinating structures; funding mechanisms; plans to develop services / prototypes / applications / research environments / support activities

SPR Documents (Cont’d)

• Requirements– major gaps in provision of services, training and support?– What support do you expect EUAsiaGrid to provide to address

these? • Community Engagement

– What scientific communities are you engaging with?– What mechanisms are you using for this engagement?– Any funded initiatives to widen the uptake?

• Obstacles– What problems are you facing that are keeping you from

achieving your implementation goals?

Requirements Survey

• Aimed at researchers to establish general community requirements

• English language ‘master’ version• Next step to translate into regional languages• Delivered using SurveyMonkey• Local survey coordinators to promote and manage• ‘Landing site’ to enable further contact• Launch soon after OGF• Follow-on through surveys and workshops

WP3: Social Simulation

• Developed as part of NCeSS node (Birkin et al.)• Using agent-based simulation to project population

forward in time by 25 years• Simulate the impact of distinct demographic

processes such as mortality, fertility, health status, household formation, migration

• E.g., to inform policy making – what impact do policy decisions have

• Requirements include computation, data integration and visualisation

Population Reconstruction

• Generation of a synthetic model of the target population – Based on real census and survey data– Works with ‘public release’ versions of census that are

restricted, e.g., to 1% of population (anonymisation) – Reconstructed model has same attributes as real

population and same number of individuals but is still anonymised

– Can use geographic segmentation to run in parallel– Uses genetic algorithms to generate synthetic model by

oversampling, e.g., students in university areas, multi-car households in suburban areas etc.

Application Porting

Conclusions

• Status, Plans and Requirements– to guide development of support activities

• Community Requirements– It will be a while before results will come in

• Applications– Bringing new applications to EGEE– Potential for synergies, e.g., with disaster mitigaton

• Next Steps– Forum development– Roadmap and coordination policy development– Responding to community requirements
