Miss Sylvia Evelyn Aldrich, a retired m1ss10nary, died May 14, 1969 in Hadley, Mich. She was born in Lyons, Mich., August 8, 1896.
She sailed lo China in 1922. !\lost of her service was at Hamilton Girls' High School in Hinghwa, as teacher and advisor. and also instructor at Lay Training hl>lilule for Dishiet Bible \Vomcn. From 1928-30 and J()37·39, she served as education~1I supc.>rvisor and instructor at primary and junior high schools in Sienvu and taught the district Bible women. l\liss Aldrich \\as ordained loc.ll elder in 1940.
She returned to the lim!cd States in 1949 for furlough. Jn the fall of 1950, she went to Southern Rhodesia (now Rhodesia) to teach at the Teacher Training School in Old Umtali Mission. Jn the spring of 1954, she became prinClpal. She helped start the Higher Teacher Tr.:iming Course at Old Umtali in 1958.
Miss Aldrich was retired January 1, 1964 after 39 years of service.

We regret to inform you of the death of Miss Sylvia Aldrich on Wednesday, May ·14th. She was a retired missionary, who served first in China and then in Rhodesia, and is survived by a sister: Mrs. Charles Vilas, 3574 West Lane Drive, Hadley, Michigan 48440.
Memorial gifts may be sent to the American Cancer Fund or to scholarships for students in Rhodesia where Miss Aldrich taught.
