According to Eurostat, the average European citizen spent 219 euro (about 300 dollars) on alcohol in 2011. However, people in Finland, Switzerland, and Luxemburg spent three times as much whereas people in south east Europe spent half of the European average. The difference is due to the lower prices of alcohol in the south but not entirely. Alcohol prices are three times lower in the south compared to the north. Yet, the difference in spending is six times.
